So I downloaded some NES 3D Classics for my 3DS today: Xevious, Twin Bee, and Excite Bike.

I bought these primarily because I thought they'd be simple yet fun games I can play on my 3DS, and I've been in a retro mood lately. I did not expect to like the 3D aspect of these games nearly as much as I do. On polygon 3DS games, the 3D adds a bit of extra depth, but really isn't worth bothering with most of the time, IMO. However, on these sprite-based games, the 3D is much more impressive! With Xevious and Twin Bee, the ships look like they are really flying high off the ground, and it's much easier to tell if you are being shot from a flying enemy or one on the ground. Excite Bike isn't quite as impressive as the other two, but the hills and ramps do look nice in 3D. I never played Twin Bee or Excite Bike before, but they are both great games. Nintendo needs to bring more of these 3D Classics out. Happy

Twin Bee was the very first thing I got off the eShop. It was never released in the US (we got the horizontal scrolller Twin Bee 2/Stinger instead) so it was cool to finally play it. Konami killed me by never doing more with that series. We need more cute'em ups I tell you.

Oh man, that would be awesome. God dammit Sega, why'd you have to abandon that franchise? Noooooo... we want more Sonic and Mario at the Olympics.

Maybe if Vader stopped buying everything Sonic, Sega would bring back some of their far better franchises. Nyaa

Playing Excite Bike reminds me of a game I played back in the day on my Sega Master System: Enduro Racer.

Ah, the good old days when me and about 20 other people in America had an SMS instead of an NES. Happy

The Witch and The Hundred Knights (PS3) – 8/8/8/7 [31/40]

That's a bit of a surprise. Not that this is a bad score by any means, but everything I had read up on this game kind of suggested that this would be the kind of game the Japanese market would completely love and eat up. Wonder how it'll sell.

With Odin Sphere finished I went back to Killzone 2...after playing a slew of FPSs on PC, so it was incredibly jarring.

No, not the controls, but the frame rate. Hrm

That's one thing I've noticed during my playthrough.  The frame rate stutters quite a bit.  Visually,  it's still quite the stunner.  In fact, I'd say Killzone 2 and 3 have the most visually stunning environments of this gen.

we need a graphics thread.

Yeah, they both look pretty great!

After a day of abject mediocrity (read: badness) I posted a score I would have been reasonably proud of when I was at my absolute best: 72 kill points (58 actual kills), 22 deaths. But at my best I would have posted that score combined with a large tally of mission points to boost my score so I wasn't wallowing down in the shame of 5th place... Sad

I also discovered I've been playing online for 304 hours...just a few more hours to go until 100k points.

It's kinda fun coming back to it crappy as it lets me appreciate how incredibly complex and chaotic the battles (and how annoying 30fps is) before playing starts to become subconscious and the complex and chaotic battles become simple second nature again. I'm starting to think of it above Halo 2 as the community is still so strong, whereas Halo 2 became an unplayable, hacked to death mess kinda quickly. Such an amazing game. I regret nothing!

Holy fucking shitballs man...the Nippon Village in Xenoblade. This has to be the biggest town/village area I have ever seen in an RPG. Some entire games aren't this big! Its almost too much area without any human tits walking around.

You 3d blind guys, you should turn on the 3d just to the very lowest setting, the picture improves, becomes more vivid.
