Has MS explained why they are calling it Xbox One? That name makes no sense to me.
Presumably it is because it is (according to them) the singular solution to all your home entertainment needs. It's 3 or 4 devices.. in ONE. It is the chosen... ONE. The added bonus is that it is so generic that people will just drop it and call it the Xbox, which is the emphasis brand anyway.
I can't see anyone actually using "one" as short hand for the Xbox the way we do with "360".
I'm going to refer to it as the X1 for now on.
Ultimately it was just kind of useless. It was good for finding out what was already on TV if you wanted to spend the time surfing around on it and searching what was available, but really you could do the same thing on the internet or with a variety or phone apps. However in an era where video on demand is really turning into the preferred method for a lot of people (particularly younger people who would use game consoles) something like this doesn't really have a place.
The only real use it had was for sporting events. That allowed some communication with other people watching and that was kind of cool. Other than that.... ehhhhh I don't think I've used it more than 2 or 3 times after that first week.
Xbone seems be be popular.
Okay, so it was a TV guide with MiiUniverse for each show. That's kinda cool. If you are into live community TV viewing and your friends have a U. I'm sure Twitter is probably what most people would use for that.
The cheering in the audience isn't coming from the press
According to Gerstmann's tweets the cheering was coming from a room that had the MS employees.
Xbone?
!
From Major Nelson:
We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail.
Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios.
Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.
Well thats some good news at least.
Xbone is perfect.
Yup, Xbone is a great name for it, since buyers will be getting boned by it on a regular basis.
<p>
Mo-cap dog. Yep.
... 's'bout right.
Not that impressive.
But it has a DOG!!!
I don't know about anyone else, but after today I feel like a humongous weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I now feel absolutely no pressure to move on to the next generation. I won't have to wait in a midnight line to get a preorder, nor to purchase the console day-one. I can play and enjoy my games that I have, and the few remaining powerhouses, at my leisure.
I'll have Minecraft and Terraria to tinker with endlessly, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and all the BioShocks I'll ever need to play and replay. For multiplayer, I'll have The Last of Us and Dragon's Crown. For RPG and Strategy, I'll have Shin Megami IV and Disgaea... best of all I'll have all my Nintendo exclusives --AND-- their back catalog at my fingertips without all the extra complications. I have all I ever need pretty much right now, with no overdue stress or anticipation at all from the immediate future.
This will be the second time I don't get a Sony or MS console at launch, and I'm fine with that!
If I ever do decide to take the plunge, it will be (hopefully) after all the kinks are worked out and maybe I'll even save a buck or two! Life is good!
Yeah, I feel like someone who has just saved approximately $499.
OMG! OMG! I'M DYING HERE! LOLOLOLOL!!!
You will miss the line leo. The excitement. The buzz. The fresh new gen smell.
EA is making WIi U games?! The world has gone mad!
"You know I will ultimately let consumers vote on PS vs. Xbox. You know I think Nintendo's business was more of an extension of their last console. We are building titles for the Nintendo consoles, but not anywhere near as many as we are for PS or Xbox. You know, what I think the consumer will find is a lot more powerful gameplay with the new boxes that are coming out, and a lot of excitement, but it will remain to be seen as to the services associated with those how the consumers decide which direction they want to go."
This is awesome
That was new gen smell I was smelling?! I thought it was fat guys in sweatpants mixed with mountain dew and pizza grease!
