It occurred to me today that if films are art and games are not, then Street Fighter the Movie would be art and Street Fighter 4 would not be. Would be a great site, along the lines of hotornot.com where you show a game on one side and the movie of the game on the other side and ask which is art...
Hotornot is a great site?
But that could be quite humorous.
Very cool impressions thanks.
Rejection, feels like this
For those of you turned off by this particular control quirk:
YOU DO NOT, I REPEAT, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SHEATH YOUR WEAPON TO USE AN ITEM, LIKE A POTION, FOR EXAMPLE.
My weapon is always unsheathed and ready for action.
It's an odd thing in this day and age to wrap your head around an RPG-like game that DOES NOT have experience points, but Monster Hunter is one of them.
It's ALL about Hunting the right Monster Parts and Materials, Forging and/or Upgrading your Weapons and Armor.
For all of you Animal Crossing folks out there, the one thing I KNOW you would find intriguing is:
Your VILLAGE has an Experience-like system, not YOU!
When you go on Non-Quest Hunts, you gather RESOURCES. Resources are gathered commonly by killing monsters. Finding rarer Items in the Field yields more though, so Gathering is nearly as important in the game as Hunting is!
Resources are distributed almost like Experience Points to Open or Develop certain aspects of your Village. You can't even START doing Official Quests in the game 'til you gather enough Resources to re-open your Base Camp in the field.
Don't want to constantly be looking for Might Seeds to up your Attack Power before going to Hunt a big Monster? Put Resources towards Opening the Farm, then have a Felyne GROW them for you!
Or open a Mushroom Box on the Farm. Or a place to Gather certain Insects. Send the Fishing Boats to a certain Area of the World to look for Rare Fish or Materials, again, using allocated Resources.
Things gradually open up as you play the game more and more, first you get a Base Camp, then you get a Farm, then a Trading Ship starts coming to your Port, then you get a Chef to boost your Stats, eventually you get a Bar Canteen!
In the game, as in life, the only thing you are truly responsible for is YOURSELF --BUT-- if you extend yourself to helping the Village around you, you are rewarded back with conveniences to make YOUR life easier in return!
AGAIN, VERY, VERY COOL!
That's for sword & shield only, heavier weapons do require to be sheathed first. As they should, really. Sheathing is vital for more things than that though, it's not just an annoyance for using items, it also lets you sprint and dive regardless of weapon carried, and for the duration of the dive you're invulnerable so it's extra useful. NPCs in the village give hints about all this stuff every so often too, you should chat them all up in the beginning.
Got some more progress done in Tri, rather quickly even. Royal Ludroth and Qurupeco defeated on first attempt, the Royal Ludroth knocked me down once but at least I cut off his tail too (which makes some of his attacks crappy), now these monsters also can spawn in Moga Forest while out to gather Resources ^_^
I also took the PSP in the toilet and beat the shogun ceanataur in MHFU with my Garuga made Greatsword xD

I was just browsing through it just for the heck of it and came across a nice little Tutorial/Demo for Picross 3D...!
Can't wait for the actual game!
After getting pushed around about by the Hordes of Jaggi and reading about the Impenetrable Shield of the Lance, I decided to give it a go. Nice, simple attack set, good defense and I love the all-out Charge attack you can do!
Then again, The Great Sword is great fun, swinging it (slowly) and watching groups of enemy go flying. REALLY powerful, but a bit slow for my tastes. I can still see its usefulness though.
I've been sticking with the Knife and Shield pretty exclusively so far; I killed the Great Jaggi with it. It's quick, but leaves you feeling kinda exposed. I DO like the stun effect of the Shield Batter attack though...
Hmmm... Haven't tried the Bow Gun yet; don't know why I am hesitating. Maybe it's due to the Limited Ammo...? I do like up-close and personal attacks.
I am REALLY impressed with the differing styles the Weapons offer! I can't WAIT to see the Switch-Axe and the Long Sword. I am thinking I am going to enjoy the Axe for some reason. I hear it's pretty fun and the Special Attacks that go along with it are cool.
So much Depth! So much Diversity! I've said it once, I'll say it again: I CAN'T BELIEVE I AM PLAYING THIS ON THE Wii!
After a week-long hiatus, finally I could spend some time with FFXIII again. Starting chapter 5, trying to flesh out combat techniques as much as possible, and starting to tinker a bit with upgrading weapons/accesories.
From all the FFs I've played before, this combat system is proving the most satisfying so far. Things can get so fast and hectic within a given battle, that constant paradigm changes keep you on your toes, not leaving you an idle moment.
I posted that same trailer like 3 weeks ago.
Will you buy it for me?
I will play the demo again cause you hyped me up.
LOL, yeah the way that sentence worked it seemed like I said that. But for the record, no I don't think hot or not is a great site, not even in a deliberately ironic way.
If we're on our new week whatcha playing thing, I'm currently devoted to Final Fantasy V Advance (which rules) and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition for PS3. I have not touched Chrono Trigger or Justice League for 3 weeks. I wasted a fair amount of time getting up to 18% in the original Saint's Row to fill my gaming time this week.
Lost Planet is a fine game. I'm three levels in, it's quite good. Still looks great too. I had played the 360 demo and thought nothing of it, but then got the PS3 version for about $16. Left it on hte shelf until I think Agnates mentioned it last week. But I'll certainly beat this one. It's slow going for me for some reason, so it'll probably take all week.
I wish stock would go up just because I bought it: (link) The deal is, everyone sees Icahn do it, so they figure he knows whats what and goes ahead and buys it.
"For example, look at video game designer Take-Two Interactive. In December, the company said it would report a steep earnings loss in 2010 due to further title delays.
The stock fell 30% on the news to below $8. To put the price in perspective, in 2008, rival Electronic Arts offered to buy Take-Two for $26 based on its Grand Theft Auto franchise – which Take-Two still owns.
In my Penny Stock Specialist advisory, we used the pullback to buy shares. A few weeks later, billionaire investor Carl Icahn began buying the stock. The news pushed Take-Two higher. Then, Take-Two reported upbeat earnings guidance. My subscribers have gains in excess of 30% in a few months.
We've seen the same thing happen with Starbucks (up from $8 to $26) and Citigroup (up from $1 to $5). Most people hated these stocks at their lows."
s-l-o-w news weekend.
I think you'll just get frustrated all over again. The demo is just a taste of combat and while the combat is a pretty significant part of the game, the demo is missing:
The Village
Forging and Upgrading
Combining Items
The Farm
Open Field/Resource Gathering
Character Customization
The Bartering of Commodities
Fishing
You get the idea. The whole point of the game is starting from nothing but the clothes on your back and earning, well, EVERYTHING...! The demo gives you pretty powerful weapons to start and throws you out in the field... It's like playing a Zelda game, getting ONE boss battle using ONE of the Special Weapons and forming an opinion from THAT --AND-- missing everything else that makes the game great.
I'm ALL for demos, but the Monster Hunter one shows NOTHING of what REALLY makes the game special!
But yeah there's really no way to do a good demo for MH that will excite people. Maybe they could have basically done all the 1 star quests, but change the urgent quest into being the Great Jaggi so they can see an actual boss fight too. But still that would probably bore most people, the game does start a bit slow. Well, I guess the more boring parts were before it even let you do guild quests, but then if they skipped that and take you to 1-star directly newbies would miss a lot of the tutorials. Meh.
