Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileI love how planning for a hunt can make one that much more effective.
This is just a minor example. I am absolutely positive things WILL get A LOT more elaborate as the game goes on.
Early in the game, as you are first introduced to the citizens in Moga village, you notice two kids talking about a Goldenfish competition. One has half the recipe for Goldenfish bait, the other has the other. If you pay attention and combine the two ingredients on your own, lo and behold: Goldenfish Bait.
You need to play the game an hour or two more from there to open the ability to do Official Quests. Once you do, you'll see one entitled: A Goldenfish Opportunity. You take the quest, they provide you with 5 worms and tell you to go to area 10 to fish. It gives you 50 minutes to catch 3 Goldenfish. A subquest for that same quest is to catch 2 Small Goldenfish.
Now, there are more than just Goldenfish in the sea. There's Sushifish, Pin Tuna and Glutton Tuna too. They are ALL going for your worm! I fished for 45 minutes last night, using worms, and caught 2 Goldenfish and 1 Small Goldenfish. I turned the game off at that point because I didn't think I was going to be able to catch the other required Fish in the amount of time and I wanted to do both the Main and the Sub Quest.
This morning I remembered the Goldenfish Bait from earlier in the game. Luckily, once you successfully combine an item, it stores the recipe in your Hunter's Notes. The recipe for Goldenfish Bait is One Firefly + One Snakebee Larva. I remembered getting the Larva from some Plants that gave Honey too, so they were easy to find. The Fireflies, not so much. There are many areas where you can collect insects, but only one small one where Fireflies are easily gathered. I knew I needed a total of at least 5 Goldenfish Bait to make my quest successful, so proceeded to gather the necessary items.
As it turns out, Goldenfish Bait seems to attract only Large Goldenfish. They didn't make it too easy --BUT-- I was able to IMMEDIATELY catch the 3 Goldenfish, then spent another 10 minutes catching the smaller ones. I failed in 45 minutes last night and was successful in about 15 minutes this morning!
There's something just sooo satisfying in gathering the items, hunting/fishing and ultimately SUCCEEDING due to your pre-planning! If there's only ONE thing that Montser Hunter does well, well THAT'S IT... It makes you FEEL like a Hunter!
TOTALLY COOL!
You use BOTH the Classic Controller Pro --AND-- the Wii-mote in certain circumstances.
Not only can you point at Monsters and Register them to make entries in your Log --BUT-- (and I find this particularly cool) Anywhere in the Menu where the game Prompts you with a "Press B" for Pointer icon, you can hold the B Trigger on the Wii-mote and simply point at terms to get further explanations --OR-- Register Certain Items/Ingredient/Monster Parts (at the Forge, for example) that you need to acquire to store in your Hunter's Journal as a reminder... The game even makes a certain tone when you collect an item you registered in this fashion, just to remind you! With the incredible depth this game has in its Weaponry, Armors and Items and Forging and/or Creating by Combining certain elements, it could easily get overwhelming trying to remember everything you need to be looking for... Yep. They thought of that and implemented a simple and effective solution!
AGAIN, TOTALLY COOL!
Also, don't quit a quest if you can't do the sub quests... Finish it, get the benefits, and repeat if you want to complete it fully... Why waste the progress you did make, all the items you may have gathered, etc?

OMG. I didn't realize you were talking about a game when I read that.
Wow. Wow. Wow. What planet are they on?

I don't know. But I know Gamestop has it listed as a July 1st release date. But that's probably not official.
Damn Square-Enix and NOA, since NOA is publishing!
Ewww...cooties!

Now Playing: Golden Sun Dark Dawn, God of War Ghost of Sparta, and DKC Returns
I'm really thinking of trying out a MMO, maybe for at least a year. Old Republic looks cool, but I think I'd rather play FFXIV when I finally pick up that PS3. But then again, WoW was pretty addicting when I played the trial.
I think WoW is still the best. But I'm really interested in FFXIV. Can't wait to see what that's all about!

Now Playing: Golden Sun Dark Dawn, God of War Ghost of Sparta, and DKC Returns
Sounds fun! I need to get my copy soon. I had to cancel me pre-order from before because I needed some funds, but I'll definitely get a copy soon. Probably have to settle for the regular retail version. I only saw one bundle at Best Buys and none at other stores and Gamestop is only for pre-orders. Oh well.
Also, the game feels very daunting and tough to commit to. I have the PSP version and it does take a lot of patience to play it. But I think the Wii version looks easier to play and get into, which is why it got better scores than the PSP one in the west.
