Yeah I just did a few more updates, A- at 1up too. This is the real deal. Out on Friday, I can't wait. I have new pics too, I will post some stuff in the thread eventually.
Sony angry at Price cut calls
You know, going back to the earlier conversation, a GTA exclusive on the Wii is actually the thing that Nintendo needs for the Wii to be taken more serious by 3rd parties. It shouldn't be necessary just based on the sales, but the reality is it still needs that kick in the ass. Rockstar North is the dev that virtually every other developer looks to as far as what is and is not successful. Whether it's gameplay, going cross platform, or DLC they are very much the measuring stick these days. If I were Nintendo I'd do whatever it took to get a GTA on the Wii. Start sending fruit baskets or something. . . like covering all development costs.
Well that's a bit of a bummer that Lost Planet 2 and Dead Rising 2 aren't going to be ready this year but I didn't really expect them to be either. That's ok though I can be patient. Capcom has been totally on fire this gen for the HD systems so I'm expecting these games to be just as awesome as anything else they've done this gen. Even though DR2 is being developed by a different developer I'm sure Capcom will keep very close tabs on the game and help them along. Bionic Commando and Dark Void should be out sometime this year and I'm really looking forward to those two games.
"Everybody in the development community would love for the PS3 to be free", Dille told Bloomberg, "so they could just sell razor blades".
They need to get the Bully team on it. They are a perfect team for it, they did a GTA style game while the main GTA guys were doing the main GTA games. They have experience, humour and a great pedigree, but no, they are working on some other crap.
Anyhow, Take Two's boss recentely came out with a comment like "We believe the Wii can host mature games and that we are the company to deliver that content"
But we've heard similar PR BS from EA and Capcom.
There will BE a fucking on rails Bioshock 2. Mark my words.....
From the GTA CW Eurogamer review
"Well, if Chinatown Wars does nothing else, it presses the DS harder than virtually anything else you can buy for it. This is GTA on a smaller screen, but by no means a smaller scale. GTAIV's Liberty City may have been cut back to two islands (the best ones), but they're massive, diverse playgrounds, teeming with cars, pedestrians, the series' trademark missions and side-games, wonderfully rendered in surprising detail by an engine that ranks among the best on the platform. And with the addition of touch-screen gimmicks and a significant new drug-dealing component, the loss of things like the comedy voiceovers and talkshows are hardly felt."
Bionic Commando definately has my interest. One of these days I'll pick up Lost Planet too. My local Gamestop is selling it for only $13. Once I'm done with Banjo, Forza 2, and Riddick, I'll probably pick it up.
Well, that would most definately help PS3 gain significant marketshare quickly. Shoot, even I'd get one if it were free!
I think I'd still hold out for Sony to bundle a game with it.
I dont get the razor blades remark. Are they saying that PS3 is a drug or that the haters should cut themselves?
It's a common phrase here in the U.S. The razor blade business model is simply: sell the razor to consumers for as cheap as possible because the real money is in selling the replacement blades. The video game industry has always followed that rule. The console is the razor, and the games are the blades.
Yeah, but the strategy is not really working. You need to keep buying razor blades to be able to shave. You do not need to keep buying games to be able to play. Theoretically you can just keep playing WiiSports forever.
Yeah, that's true when it comes to casuals playing Wii, but it still holds true for PS3/360 due to their more hardcore user base. Hardcore gamers are never satisfied with just one game.
Ah I get you. I should have seen it before. Stoopid me. Thanks.
BTW, three more GTA Chinatown wars reviews, three more triple AAA scores. Nice. Some say its a design masterpiece. A couple ponder whether its the best GTA full stop.
I'm done with the updates for tonight I think. I have to shower and watch 24.
Nope. The attachment rate of the Wii is higher than the PS3. And the myth that casual gamers do not buy games has been busted multiple times. On the 360 the strategy does not work either, because they are still in the red. The razor blade model does not really work for consoles as you can see in the profit margins of the HD consoles (hint: they are negative).
Besides the HD consoles are following "I am bleeding money from my arse, but that is okay as long as the competitor is knocked out, while I use money from other divisions to stay alive" business model and not the razor blades business model.
Wow. . . EQ is having it's 10th anniversary. Christ I feel old.
EQ for all its faults was a fantastic experience. Easily one of the 5 games that influenced me the most as a gamer. The in-game history, the events, the whole world was just revolutionary. I lost more than a couple months of my life to it (I played it off and on between 1999 to 2002), but I can honestly say I don't regret it.
Never hold back on the PC news updates. I may never be able to play a good PC game at launch but I always try to go pick them up a year after the fact when I can afford the upgrade.
