half-life 2 is a great shooter and i liked the non-plot with all the 1984/Big Brother ideas.  however it was seriously vomit enducing for someone like me who is motion sick easily.

best opening section of any game ever ... hmmm, galaxy sure is a strong one.  i'll go for RE4.  travelling towards and entering the village for the first time has been one of the most memorable gaming experiences for me (but then again which section of RE4 wasn't most memorable).

GoldenEye the Dam level, Perfect Dark the skyscraper, Ceres Space Station Super Metroid, Village RE4, Zelda OOT the dream. Did I forget something? D'oh Mario Galaxy the Star Festival.

Super Metroid has the creepiest, Mario the most beautiful, RE4 the most intense and PD en GEoo7 the most ingenious openings.

Half-Life 2's opening has left me massively disappointed:
Be talked at. Walk, smash debris, walk, swim, smash debris, shoot two people, walk, listen to more people, smash more debris, swim, RUN AWAY from people, run away from more peopel, smash more debris, swim more, walk more, smash debris, run away, listen to people, kill a few more people, smash some more debris, and so on and so forth.

I have been reassured it gets more interesting, though, so I look forward to what the future holds.

I found it boring too and much of the actual game. That brings a good question to the fore though? Best opening ever? I have to admit the mario galaxy opening section made me feel like I was in Disneyland.

Shut the fuck up and go pick up a can like the combine soldier told you to.

But yeah, I can understand. To be honest...HL2 is a good shooter...though it's not the best game of all time. I've never really liked the story in any of the Half Life games.

Whats your favourite game this year?

yes, i could play metroid prime for hours and hours without needing to stop and it never made me sick.  most  modern shooters don't do that to me.  i think HL2 has a narrower field of view (or something) which makes it worse.

this first started happening when the mouse-lock was introduced to shooters.  i remember playing Quake and having serious bouts of vomiting and diarrhoea before i realised that it was the game that was doing that to me.  then i was OK so long as i didn't play for more than 10 minutes at a time.  As graphics and framerates improved, this became less of a problem but it still happens from time to time. ... strangely enough one of the most recent games that made me motion sick was mario kart DS, but i somehow got used to it and had no problem after the first few times.

i just SDed a bunch of old VC games i wasn't playing and i think also the photo channel.  i also don't have the mario kart channel as i haven't played the game yet and i don't have wii speak which i understand is another channel.  it's really worth it.

The 512mb memory is a joke when they keep releasing channels. I have WiiSpeak, Nintendo and internet channel which I use. I deleted Mario kart channel and everybody votes crap. I used to be able to keep one N64 or WiiWare game on board. Now even withouth one, I can't fit World of Goo. Not without deleting 10 + VC games and a channel too.

put them on your SD prior to deleting them, quicker to put back on than having to download again.  i agree that 512MB on board is a stupid joke with the amount of stuff that requires that memory to run on.  it would only maybe have been enough if it was just for gamesaves.  they could easily have had something like 8GB - 16GB on board at no extra cost.  storage space is so much cheaper than it used to be.  no excuse.

Best opening to a game, MGS1, it was like a movie, I had never seen anything like it.

RE4 is fantastic, but so was the original as it was the first time you ever encountered a zombie.

SOTN, just cause it has the greatest dialog ever put in a game.

Galaxy is up there as well, easily the best Mario one.
