But when people buy a simulator they want the most realistic game possible.

If Gran Turismo tried to pass off as a racing game I'm sure that nobody would care, but a simulator?

That is like buying a game that claims that it's a Tactical First Person Shooter but it's just a fragfest.

MGS2 had better gameplay mechanics for sure, it advanced the series very well. But all other aspects I felt was a step back.  MGS1 had much better variety, WAY WAY better bosses, better pacing, better level design.  MGS2 the tanker level was perfection, if the game was like that the whole way through it would have been a 10 like a feel the other games in the series are. The Plant was dull, its structure was repetitive by design. Every area was a hexagon with a bridge, yeah each room was slightly different but it offered no change in the size of the areas, the types of locations you visit.  The inner strut had some diversity but I feel the events from MGS2 were not as good as MGS1.  The harrier fight was already done before, it was the Hind D fight.  The electrified floor with the nikita missle was done before.  I know it was all a reenactment of MGS1 but that is what kind of hurt it.  An escort mission underwater is no where near as fun as rappeling down a wall while a helicopter shoots you.  Listening for a guys heartbeat is not as fun as going up a flight of stairs as you are assulted by a ton of guards.  Having to sniper cover fire is not as good as having an actual sniper duel.

MGS2 had phenomenal gameplay it just didn't use it in interesting new ways.  It all felt like a poor attempt to mimic MGS1. Fantastic game, just the weakest one in the series I feel.

Well I feel the complete opposite, let's just agree to disagree then.

Ditto. And I liked the Big Shell more than the Tanker. I thought it was awesome how you had to try and make it to the other side by making your way through each strut that each presented its own obstacle. Plus, it made sense to have all the struts the same size, etc....that's how you want something like that, realistically, to support itself. Balance.

I've always thought that the parts where you had to chase down bombs in MGS2, and then the god awful boss fight versus Fatman, were the worst parts of any game in the series. Basically the Raiden parts that made up a large part of MGS2 were just extremely frustrating to me, and it wasn't just because I thought that Raiden was a stupid side character at the time.

Anyway I just watched the first episode of Naruto Shippuden. The series looks promising so far.

I am with hires, that is the worst part of the game.  It has you running back and forth through the struts, its the same formula. Room, bridge, room, bridge, back and forth.  Some of the rooms were badly designed offering almost no way to hide like the strut that had the water below and it was just a series of pathways. Get caught there and you are screwed.  Fatman was a poor mans Vulcan Raven.
Once you get away from the struts and into the middle section then I think the game becomes really great again.  Sorry but I felt that going from the superbly designed Tanker to that, a repetitive back and forth hunt was a bit surprising.

Miyazaki: If it's like Totoro that'll be good, as it's one of his better films. Grinning

I feel that the catbus was a step too far. What does everyone think about Tales from Earthsea by Goro Miyazaki?

I was a fan of the books so when I first saw it I hated it. Then a few months later I watched it again and appreciated it on its own merits. It seems like early Hayao movies like Nausicaa to me. It's promising that Goro could do that with his first movie. I think it needs more humor, perhaps less pondering. Still, I really enjoyed it the second time through.

Happy Birthday Yo!

How old are you? 90? Grinning

DVADER IF YOU LIKE WANTED

Why not try watching Nightwatch and Daywatch from the same director? It's based on a famous series of russian books and is a lot more original than Wanted. Why not try renting or buying Nightwatch?

I can't help but think certain people are half-assing their commitment to Inserting Coins....

LOL that is awesome. I don't know who wrote that Castlevania critique, but I agree with everything he said. Its just a stupid stupid game, and another embarassing lame 3rd-party offering on Wii that they're trying to pass as some kind of big deal because its got a big name attatched to it.
