Yeah, pretty dumb decision by Nintendo with the packaging and by GameStop stapling receipts to the box.
Played a bit of Mario Kart World and the game plays and looks fantastic. Played a couple of online races which played great with a full 24 player race. Very cool tracks. Pretty wild fun with all those players. Checked out a little free roam stuff. Really dig that.
A lot of people who preordered from walmart received a bonus Coke and Pringles. Where is my bonus?
Doritos and Mountain Dew King are not happy.
Atari needs to bring him back! More comics, streaming shows and feature films!
Note to self: sabotage fridge.
Great news, patched Switch games look better than I imagined. Both on the tv and portable.
More great news, unpatched Switch 1 games also run better on switch 2.
Arkham Knight even when driving is a rock solid 30fps. Same for Witcher 3.
Bayonetta 2 and 3 are locked 60fps and other games have better frame rates.
I'm interested to see how DRS works and if the resolution will drop far less, particularly in Snowrunner.
Streetfighter 6 demo is up and it honestly looks far better than expected played offscreen.
There's also comparison footage going around for both SF6 and Cyberpunk switch 2 compared to ps5 and its so close, it doesn't bother me or any normal person.
Played Mario kart world for 10 mins, looks great but it just did two 100cc tracks.
Free roaming seems directionless at the moment to the point where it feels like, why am I doing this? Also because the world is so big I can't consume it without a huge time sink. But I only picked around for 5 mins.
Battery life is notably worse than the OLED, to be expected.
Game cards work worse vs Switch 1? On Switch 1 it tells you if a game is currently installed to your system or not.
Switch 2 has icons to show the game is loaded onto your console, not installed. Loaded means it's authorised to play it on the console.
To see if its installed you have to hover your icon over it on the menu.
Now here's the really bad thing, I updated Luigis Mansion 3 and tried it. It doesn't have an official patch BTW.
So in handheld, it displays at handheld switch 1 resolution, 720p.
And as you can imagine, 720p on a larger, 1080p screen doesn't look good due to upscaling, the normal kind not DLSS.
So unless these games are all patched they are going to look blurrier in handheld compared to switch 1.
One suggestion is to allow switch 2 to display switch 1 games handheld in their docked configuration.
Most of my physical games are either 2D or Nintendo games so I imagine most will look okay or get patched at some point.
Hey now, who gave you the authority to speak in name of all us normal persons?
Have you tried any of the Xenoblade games yet? I was in half a mind to restart XB2 on the Switch2. I don't think I got half way through it when I first played it, and the resolution didn't bother me, but it'd be nice knowing I'm playing it in the most optimal setting.
Good impressions, GG.
Free roam feels like a combination of MK and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. You are just trying out new tricks and challenges. I do like how you csn earn new vehicles and costumes.
I don't think any vehicle will match the coolness of the R.O.B.H.O.G.
You should give 2 a second chance. I gave up like everyone else, but if you play it regularly instead of bouncing from game to game it becomes really enjoyable. It's my favourite in the series.
I'll try 2 and 3 later. I ran X3 through Mclassic at 1440p and it looked awesome.
GVG, Nintendo Life a d Digital Foundry.
Not sure I can play Arkham Knight and Witcher 3. The framerate is sorted but they still look a bit ass like.
But it's like $20 for the Arkham trilogy.
Decisions.
Blunty on YouTube did a ps5 performance mode vs Switch 2.
He didn't say what mode he was using on switch 2. But he didn't label which side was which. They looked so similar I lost track of which version was which and which one I thought looked better.
The margin was so slim I reached the point where the perceptible difference was so small, it wasn't even worth thinking about.
Amazing how games scale these days.
So a week ago I decided to scrap my playthrough of Phantasy Star 1 on Sega Ages difficulty (2X EXP and Gold, fewer random battles) because the game felt too easy; restarted it from the begining on the Original difficulty; the only QoL feature I'm using now is the automap. I'm on the 5th(?) dungeon, and I'm starting to really feel the difficulty. I have the best gear my party has available to them at this point in the game and I've grinded for hours and hours but I always run out of magic and health halfway through the dungeon, saving only enough to use the Noah's EXIT spell and the Alis' FLY spell to the nearest church and hospital. Rinse and repeat. There doesn't appear to be any way to regenerate magic points outside of town without healing at a hospital, which is kinda odd. I've been chipping away at this multi-level dungeon all week. I normally wouldn't be enjoying this but I am.
Man, Rainbow Road does not disappoint. It may be my favorite version of the track.
Apart from Mario Odyssey, all the Switch 1 games I tested portable.
Links Awakening and Mario Odyssey which have switch 2 patches look great.
Otherwise, all the switch 1 games haven't been patched and render at their original portable screen resolution.
On the switch 2 LCD screen they all look worse, there's colour loss, it's blurrier. I even tried 2D games like Miles Edgeworth investigations and it looked bad enough compared to the OLED screen that I just don't want to play it that way.
All these games will look the same, if not better docked on the tv. There won't be the difference there compared to how they originally looked.
But offscreen, unpatched switch 1 games look worse than on the OLED.
I really like exploring Mario Kart World in free roam looking for those P blocks and doing the missions, looking for the Peach coins, looking for the ? blocks, etc. The water physics are great and it’s quite fun driving on the water.
Looking forward to trying a bunch of my Switch 1 games on the Switch 2 as well. Got a bunch in my backlog that I haven’t played through fully yet.
