All you need is the Switch 2 Game Chat function.
The Switch 2 Game Chat has 3 options for screen sizes, full screen, bigger chat squares and pretty small game screen and small chat squares and bigger but not full screen game screen.
If you activate Game Chat and use the size with the smallest game screen and biggest chat squares, it scales the game screen down to a seemingly native 720p window.
So all Switch 1 games running in 720p are now getting shown in native resolution when you use game chat.
But then you're stuck with a smaller screen than on the or8ginal switch?
In a way I know how mistakes like these happen, I've been a part of them (or at least first party witness to it), The posters are clearly ready to go and someone put them up too early. It's got to be coming in the next month, surely. They already said both versions will come out this year.
It could also be a poster where they have a sticker like "Coming Soon" over the "Out Now" and the installer forgot to put that on the poster.
Who knows, anyway good to see it's coming soon.
The DF Switch2 hardware review mentions how the screen is the biggest letdown. The HDR and VRR implementation are subpar and not worth the tradeoff of a high tendency for ghosting apparebtly.5
My big takeaway is that I am blessed with lenient eyes. I'm never bothered with games only supporting 30fps, in games with dynamic framerates I hardly notice any dips and I've played Fast Fusion and didn't notice the severe ghosting.
I hope Nintendo drops a system update so Switch 1 games can run above the 720p cap, portable.
I've played extensively on Cyberpunk, MKW and Fast Fusion on the screen and I have no problems with it. The games look fast and smooth and colourful, especially when you tweak the HDR settings in the Cyberpunk menu.
I still prefer OLED screens but there's not really much to complain about with this screen on my part.
Switch 1 games give off a bad impression of the screen, but that's a resolution problem.
Nintendo made a howler running Wii games on Wii U where you couldn't use the actual game pad controls.
If they don't allow switch 1 games to output at closer to docked resolutions portable it will be just as bad of a missed opportunity.
"There's gonna be a Nintendo Direct this Summer in July. I can't tell you how I know. You know how I know but I can't tell you how I know. Here's what we'll see: Metaphor ReFantazio but I'm worried it'll be a Game Key Card. This one's obvious, we'll get a Gamecube shadowdrop and I heard it was Pokemon Colosseum, not Pokemon Colosseum XD: Gale of Darkness. That's coming later, one at a time. This one I don't know about but I was told Death Stranding: Director's Cut S. This one is obvious I feel but The Witcher 3 Nintendo Switch 2 edition. They also just added crosssave and cross play to Witcher 3. I haven't been told specifically but I guess so (he says nodding yes). The Switch 2 Editions will get a physical release but I don't know if they'll add anything like motion controls like Cyberpunk. The main reason for this Direct is to refresh everybody with what's coming out, I don't know if it's coming before Donkey Kong or after Donkey Kong. Included in that is Metroid's release date. As far as I'm aware, the one more thing is just a teaser card for Animal Crossing with Isabelle showing up, 2026. That's everything I heard."
Yes, need to know when Metroid is coming.
The tv was reading the output of Cyberpunk as 1080p before, then 1440p once I disabled the 120hz.
Now on my older cheaper yet still decent 4ktv Cyberpunk looks much sharper and I was wondering why. I checked the tv info and it was receiving a 4k image from Switch 2.
Could it be the auto low latency on the previous tv making some games output at a lower resolution?
Because Cyberpunk literally does look 4k on this tv.
Gg, dod you try out the mouse mode on Cyberpunk?
Very briefly.
Without a joycon shell or silicon grip it's just not comfortable to use.
Also I didn't realise but the framerate seems to be a limiter on how fast you can move the mouse pointer or gyro. The game is 100% smooth when using analogue sticks for aiming and turning.
But with the gyro set too high and with the mouse mode, super fast wrist movements are too fast for the framerate to keep up.
I guess there's a reason Prime 4 was displayed in 120hz mode.
But you can tune the sensitivity in Cyberpunk to get the perfect feeling, just dialing the sensitivity to what feels good.
TBH I feel like gyro is just as good and easier to use anyway. Most of the time you don't even need to ADS.
It's quite funny the aiming tutorial saying you should ADS to hot these targets and after 19 years of pointer aiming I can just casually take out all the targets without needing ADS.
One problem I'm having in game is sniper rifles, because I would shoot someone and there was no effect.
I didn't realise but each rifle has a different shooting distance. So even if you have someone in your sights, if the reticle isn't red he's out of your range.
No perceptible difference. But I did used to play it with Mclassic.
However, wow the load times are so fast, the percentage bar just leaps up in a couple of seconds. Makes it less annoying when you die.
Also tried Observer, really good walking Simulator science fi game by Bloober team. It still looks atrocious docked.
The only way I could play this before was handheld.
This weekend was like last, tons of Tears of the Kingdom and a good bit of Mario Kart World.
I've mostly been playing Phantasy Star (SMS). I believe I'm somewhere around the last quarter of the game now.
This weekend I finished The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake and played some Mario Kart World, Capcom Fighting Game Collection 2, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Remastered, and Star Wars Battlefront II
Been playing Simcity 3000, Vampire Survivors and Spongebob Squarepants game.
Sonic sales figures leak. Some of these look downright pathetic, especially the Yakuza (Like a Dragon) ones.
According to the document, Persona 5 Royal has sold over 7 million units. Sonic Frontiers has sold some 4.5 million copies, and recent Yakuza titles Infinite Wealth and Like A Dragon have shifted 1.66 million and 2.86 million.
I was always too grumpy about it to get the expansion pack stuff.
But now I have access to it, there's quite a bit I managed to download.
Got the Zelda Switch 2 editions, the N64 and GC games service.
And the Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing expansions.
Funny that TOTK doesnt look any better played on the Switch 2 screen? The resolution seems low? I have a funny feeling it's still running in 720p Switch 1 mode.
BOTW looks native 1080p played off screen now.
Mario Odyssey patched and played offscreen looks clearly sharper.
But TOTK looks excellent on the tv now. It's always had this white washed out look so it's not got searing colour or anything, but it's a lot sharper and smoother now.
I tried the MATURE N64 games, hilariously hidden on the main Switch online page. You have to find it on the eshop.
It's got Turok 1 and 2, Shadow Man and Perfect Dark.
I can't play either turok or Perfect Dark anymore the controls break my brain. N64 games used to use the left stick to move and rotate and the c buttons, now the right stick are for strafing, and for looking up and down... with a C button.
But Goldeneye seemed fine when I tweaked a few things.
No DK64 on switch online?
The 2D text is hilariously pixellated though.
Pretty cool how so many, even ass old Nintendo N64 games are still playable and fun. I never bought MK64 because of the rubber banding but I enjoyed the track I just played, looking forward to exploring more.
BTW on Mario Kart World on Mario circuit, you can enter all the green pipes in free roaming, for hidden stuff.
Also in free roaming you can press Y to pull up the map and click on other characters to warp there and switch to them.
The area north between Peach circuit.and Moo moo meadows is my favourite during the day. Rolling green grass, hay bales and wandering cows.
You couldn't use green pipes before? You can also press plus on the title screen and jump right into free roam. That's something I never noticed until this past week. :s
