Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade gets "Streamlined Progression"

01/15/26 - Square Enix will release the "Streamlined Progression" feature for the role-playing game Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PC) via patch on 01/22/26 for PlayStation 5 and PC. On this day, the game will also be released for Xbox Series and Switch 2, which already have the feature.

"Streamlined Progression" is aimed at players who want to focus on the plot. It allows settings that keep health and magic points permanently at the maximum value, set the damage dealt at 9,999 points and equip the inventory with all items in maximum quantities, with a few exceptions.

The options can be individually activated or deactivated and adjusted at any time via the menu. With this innovation, Square Enix wants to take into account different play styles and make it easier to access the story.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties with SlashOut and 12 Game Gear Classics

1/15/26 - Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PS4, PC) from Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will feature the arcade classic SlashOut (2000) and 12 Game Gear classics from Namco. This is reported by PushSquare.

Slashout shifts the fighting game structure known from Spikeout into a fantasy realm characterized by magical gems. The arcade game was released in 2000 for Sega's NAOMI system and offers a cooperative action/adventure for up to four players.

In sprawling arenas, they'll encounter more than forty species of monsters, while branching scenarios and multiple storylines make for repeatable playthroughs. The four selectable characters differ significantly: Slash uses balanced stats and fire-charged attacks, Luna relies on speed and holy energies, Axel relies on raw power and earthy shockwaves, and Kamui combines high speed with wind-based special techniques. These skills shape the rhythm of the fights and give each game its own dynamic.

12 Game Gear games are:

Columns

Fantasy Zone Gear

Galaga '91

G-LOC

Mappy

Pac-Man

Puyo Puyo

Sonic Chaos

Sonic Drift

Streets of Rage

The GG Shinobi

Woody Pop

I'm just happy to not see pixelated blacks. The Switch 2's colors look a little too warm. I haven't had a chance to play around with the settings and may not get to until Monday because we are going on a trip.

I know it sounds weird but I have a Quantum Dot Samsung LCD and its colours are as vibrant as the OLED. It's does have a noticeable back light so this messed me up. My experience with OLEDs is that when the screen is black it literally emits no light and you're in pitch darkness. The QD tv somehow manages the same effect, I think it must just turn off the back light.

I think I have the Switch 2 hdr settings how I want them. However, I'm heading to the mountains this weekend so I won't be able to enjoy gaming on the big screen.

I gave up on Paradise Lost.

The story are atmosphere is not bad. You're in this Lost underground Nazi facility.

But the walking speed is glacial and the sound for your footsteps is annoying. And they also make opening each door a whole convoluted thing where a button press would suffice.

Its a walking simulator that makes you feel like youre walking through treacle.

Im on Venus auditioning for a movie role for Hitler.

Wolfenstein 2 is nuts.

The AI is really dire, they just dog pile one location so you just stand in a doorway and kill them all. Then wander around a dark empty level trying to work out your location.

This weekend I've been mostly playing Gran Turismo 7 in VR. Haven't played it in months; feels good to be back improving lap times. I've also put in a few hours into No Man's Sky VR.

Recently got the platinum trophy for Octopath Traveler 0. Very long but great game. This weekend I’ve just been playing Vampire Survivors. Mindless, addictive fun until I figure out what game I want to play next.
