MonHun Wild releases in February.  This will probably be the game to pull me kicking and screaming into current gen.  With the game finally going fully cross platform I'm contemplating wether I should buy a PS5 or Xseries, or splurge on a gaming PC.  I've never been a PC gamer, so I don't feel like spending that kind of money, but it seems that the consoles are already struggling to hit decent performance as is.  Upshot is that if I buy a PC, I can call it a business cost and it'll only cost me about 40% after vat and tax reduction.  So it's quite feasible I could build a console equivalent or slightly better PC for the same cost to me.  On the other hand, if I get a PS5, it'll be my first Playstation console and I'll have access to a lot of Playstation exclusives from this gen and last.

I've still got 5 months to make up my mind.  Knowing me I'll shrug off any performance doubts and just get a series S to save me some money and be able to subscribe to GamePass again should I ever feel like it.

What do you guys take for back pain?

I'm trying beer right now, while listening to C-SPAN and playing Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter. Not working so far.

You need a heat pad and an acupressure pad. You can also get high strength ibuprofen gel or high strength Motusul gel. But really the heat pad is the best option. Don't try using a hot water bottle or some wheat filled heat bag. It needs to be large and flat and cover as much of your back as possible.

You probably need a couple of days to recover. Also avoid dodgy seating.

While I have a weak back, I don't suffer from enduring back ache much.  My left hip is slowly degrading though, so I'm expecting to need to have it replaced at some point, and younger than I'd feel comfortable with.

Back pain runs in the family though.  I've heard best is to lie down on your back and not move.  I've heard it's best to just keep moving about as you would normally.  Basically nobody knows.

Moving about advice is dodgy. Moving about is more about keeping active when not hurt or in pain to stop the problem from developing in the first place.

If you've acutely injured your back or torn something you need to rest it. Lying flat or on a recliner and always using a heat pad, if it's muscular.

I found recently my sofa was basically collapsing at the back so seating it very important too.

I had total hip replacement at age 41 and it honestly changed my life. Before the surgery, I struggled to walked 15-20 minutes without resting. I walked about thirteen miles at Disney World a few months after the surgery. I still have issues here and there. I can never run again and I do have soreness and still limp from time to time, but I can only imagine it would be worse without. I will also have to replace this new hip in about 8-12 years.

I also have occasional lower back pain that I try to treat by going to the YMCA four to five days a week at about 5:15. I can manage to workout for about twenty five minutes before having to go back home and get ready for work. I do the elliptical and a couple of workout machines for my arms and back. Its not much but its something I suppose.

Moores Law is Dead podcast has been giving his thoughts on Switch 2 specs. It's only a couple of minutes if you want to fast forward to the segment.

If you can't be bothered watching he says the memory has 5x the bandwidth of Switch 1 and 50% better than Steam Deck, he also says the GPU is better than steam deck though the CPU is weaker.

He uses the comparison of PS4 or XB1 to Switch saying Switch had half the RAM of those and slower RAM.

Whereas Switch 2 has two thirds of the RAM of PS5 and more than the Xbox Series S.

He says anything that runs on Xbox Series S should run on Switch 2.

He says if the system had launched a year ago or more, like it was supposed to, it would have been considered as very impressive.

Also Switch 1 firmware has changed in what appears to be a coding change to allow Switch 2 to run these games at higher settings. So backwards compatibility seems certain.

https://youtu.be/4ZTvlJ3034w?si=EuVzykPw439wLRZ4

General opinion, also much of which comes from Moores Law as he's an Nvidia insider, or his sources are - is that Nintendo is going to clock the Switch 2 super low in mobile for battery life better than Switch 1.

My apologies to everyone around me in real life, but my car now has an obscenely loud exhaust system and everything about it is glorious. Until I inevitably get defected. Or a neighbour bashes me as retribution. Fair enough, I like to drive at night. Tinnitus and hearing loss are probably going to be side effects, too. Oh well, have you heard how effective hearing aids are these days?

Sonic announcements, agreed.

I dunno, back to Sony, this could be considered the worst console generation for a long time.

Push Square had a poll up after the PS show and it seems most people there thought it was good to very good. *shrugs*

What Sonic announcements?

Two extra stength Tylenol is my go to meds for all pain. If that doesn't work I might add one Aleve a few hours later. If I can't sleep because of pain, I take two herbal caramels they sell here.

Edit: Ice packs as well.

Look at us youngsters.  My hip isn't much of an issue... yet.  While I'm no sports nut, I do play about once a week.  Would hate to have to miss that.

I'm lucky that my back's not bad, but my right knee is going to need some surgery at some point. Genetics already gave me bad knees (thanks mom), but a few years back I fell off of a ladder while changing a light bulb.

I walked it off at the time, but the damage was a lot more serious than I realized. A few months later I was trying to play Ring Fit Adventure on the Switch, and I don't remember exactly what I was doing, but I put all my weight on the right leg, and I immediately fell on the floor. Even with low impact stuff like yoga, I can't balance in it. Anyway, I'm afraid my dreams at playing in the professional frisbee golf league are probably impossible now.

There's a reasonably good chance Florida is going to get it this election cycle. Assuming of course our dumbass Governor who's doing everything in his power to prevent it from happening fails at something else yet again.

I don't see SC ever going down that path. Our governor, Foghorn Leghorn would not allow it.

Nintendo mystery wireless device has a confidentially clause in the patent which ends, end of March 2025.

So I think that's basically the Switch 2 launch date.

Made it to the final boss on Ganryu 2, awesome game.

Beat the final boss in Ghouls and Ghosts arcade... only to be warped back to the first level to do it again.

I used to think this game was a classic but, as with other arcade games my nostalgia stems from the experience and the first couple of levels.

This game is categorically a piece of shit. It screws you over in so many ways.

You have a pitiful jump, you can't change direction in the air. So projectiles suddenly appear from offscreen and you're committed to die in its path.

Enemies often randomly change movement patterns to screw you over.

Enemies appear literally at your feet. You often can't tell when youre hitting a boss. You can't jump and grab onto ladders.

The levels will suddenly have you running backwards through the level to an unnatural extent.

The game will throw unavoidable attacks at you. You may avoid one or two but end up jumping to avoid several projectiles, and inevitably into the path of another hit.

The game literally screws you over by giving you shitty weapons. You get the blue flame, crap on a stick and even when you die you can't get rid of it.

Most weapons fire at an angle so you literally can't shoot at ground level enemies even when ducking.

I think the SNES version is better, if only for the double jump.

Ghouls and Ghosts arcade is brutal. And the requirement of playing through the game twice to get to the true final boss and ending wasn't something I'd ever seen before.

Thank you to everyone on the back pain advice and commiseration. This is an annual event for me nowadays, fortunately with some rest it will go away.

I should have used a heatpad by now, thanks GG fo rthe reminder.

It only hurts when I move LOL
