Will you be getting a Steam Deck, Aspro? Crazy how long it took to get there.

I'm definately going to research it and strongly consider. The one thing that gives me pause is how small the storage is... I'll also have to find out how easy it is (or isn't) to move install files from my PC to the Deck (so I don't have to download the games twice).

I spent my weekend with Cult of the Lamb, and since my impressions were asked about it, here's the first round.

Thanks for impressions Robio. Sounds liek a wait for a sale, but something worth checking out.

This last week my schedule has been horrendous, so not much gaming. Played Disco Elysium and last night picked up UFO 50 and started it.  If you don't know about it, it's a unique game.

For all my intents to play video games this weekend I did not get a single minute in. Cathcing up on MLB playoffs each night has taken the small amount of relaxation time I get.

Been playing Kingdom new lands and Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice.

Spirit of Justice is awesome, I'm on case 3 and it feels like it could be an end game case. The art is fantastic, I've snapped so many photos of the Tibetan like country you spend most of your time in. The story and location is a lot more evocative than any previous Ace Attorney game.

Maya is on a spiritual retreat and Phoenix goes to meet her on holiday. Then you get caught up in a Web of religious rites, ceremonies, conspiracies, rebel groups. All amongst a society that despises lawyers.

There's a fair amount of voice acting, still very little but it works and the character models are notably upgraded except for Apollo.

No, just controllers.

Edit: I keep looking at the Logitech G29 Wheel but haven't taken the plunge yet.

Yeah, and that's what I did. At $15, I'm very pleased with the purchase.

Steam Deck has an SD card slot for storage expansion. It should be fairly easy to copy your game files from PC to it with either the SD card or through your network. You'll likely want to redownload any games that have a Linux version since those will run better natively on the Steam Deck.

I'd like to get one myself, but I'd just turn it into a retro emulation machine, and it's a little to pricey for that.

I bought Battle Princess Madelyn for £2.64

It was inspired by Ghouls and Ghosts. It initially got bad reviews, but I saw a video saying it had multiple QOL improvements and was quite good these days.

I've only played the arcade mode, but so far it's all good. It's got great pixel art, it controls almost exactly like G and G, with a double jump. Many of the enemies have the same behaviours as G and G.

It's as easy to die but you respawn instantly. There's also a story mode which plays like a metroidvania. Great purchase.

Thanks that's helpful. I'll do more research and probably get the lower storage OLED based on the one review I've watched so far. I definitely travel enough to justify it -- on my most recent break I took the extreme measure of taking my gaming PC with me!

You're clearly overthinking it.  Just splurge and sort out the details later.

Probably should. But I do want to know how cloud game saves and all that works so I can play on the mothership and the steam deck as I would the Switch (or close enough to it).

Steam deck uses something called Proton, which makes Windows games compatible to run on Linux.

OIP.inSu_KgrrjQ5hsDP4CCPcQHaJQ?dpr=2.6&pid=ImgDetMain&PC=EMMX01

I bought Kingdom Two Crowns and Kingdom Eighties, set in the 80s.

I'm now more familiar with the series and various versions.

So the basic game of Kingdom is fairly similar, the difference is mostly the aesthetics.

The other games are actually DLC like, or themes if you like.

I started with the cheapest option, Kingdom New Lands, on sale for £1.30

It's a really enjoyable micro sim indie game. I don't play sims or strategy games anymore, but this is so stripped back and easy to work with. So you can chill and still feel like your choices matter. You throw coins about to do various things like to recruit a peasant.

Then throw a coin to get a hammer, your recruit auto picks up a hammer, then you throw a coin at a mound of dirt and your dude goes to build a watchtower.

You do the same to build farms, watermill, hire archers etc. They generate cash for you, they literally throw coins at you as you visit them. You use your earnings to continue building your Kingdom.

However there is a portal with monsters that spawn and attack your Kingdom every night. So they will destroy your walls and fences and your subjects will die and respawn as peasants.

So I'd buy New Lands as I did to see what it's like.

The main game is Kingdom Two Crowns, it has 3 different themes, one of which is a Japanese one with lush bamboo forests. It's also Two player.

It has a few DLCs, Norse Lands and a Greek one called Olympus.

Then they did Kingdom 80s, set in a Stranger Things like setting. You ride around with your buddies building stuff to defend from the monsters. I haven't played much but there seems to be a story and you have to fulfil certain conditions to recruit your main buddies.

Kingdom 80s and New Lands are separate games.

Kingdom Two Crowns is the main game to get, it's better value as it has 3 included themes, but then you can buy the two other DLCs.

They all seem good to me and when the prices drop I'll nab the dlcs.

Today I learned:

1. The Steamdeck can be used effectively for streaming from your PC (big plus, takes away most of the storage concerns).

2. Steam has a built in tool to allow you to transfer games on the same network, and this works on Steamdeck just fine.

3. The base level OLED is $900, the LCD is $650. It's not quite a no-brainer to go with the the OLED but it kinda is.

This would be a lot easier sell to the family if I had not gotten a $600 watch earlier in the week (before I knew this was happening).

Does the watch at least cross-save the time with your kitchen clock?

I did not research it before I bought it, and it turns out it does not (I should have looked into it).

It does have an OLED screen though. Happy

So has 2024 been long enough for us to be comfortable that we'll soon be living in 2025?

I'm on both sides of the fence on this one. I want to tell you to do it because you play so many driving games, but also the one time I bought a driving wheel it was novel, but I went back to controllers pretty quick.

To support my first view, I have played GT on a PS5 with a logi driving wheel and racing seat in a store and it was mind melting. I can only imagine what that would be like with a PSVR2.
