Finally some decent news!
Well, our original Switch is officially a handheld no more. I wanted to play some Splatoon3 on it today, and it went from 100% to 15% in 5 minutes.
And now for the question of what to do. Do we just accept this as our new reality? Do I try to swap out the battery myself? Do I send it in and pay god knows how much to have it replaced?
That is unfortunate. Our WiiU has been unusable for years now. I keep promising my son we'll buy a new one, but never got around to it. Perhaps I shouldn't delay this any longer.

Well. I think if the cost of repair is less than 45% of a new one you have it repaired. If more, get a new one as a hedge that the Switch 2 won't be backward compatible.
