So while the whole student population left USC to go home for Thanksgiving, young Travo was waiting in his dorm room on Tuesday night.  He was eagerly awaiting the next morning when Best Buy would open at 10am and he could pick up his preorder of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.  That night was torturous.  He couldn’t kill time in the library or computer lab because they were closed and the Zelda commercial came on every thirty minutes.  Midnight releases were unheard of back then so he had to wait before driving home with his new prize.  When he arrived at Best Buy the next morning, there was fifty others already in line.  The doors opened and everyone made a beeline to the game cart and another beeline to the register.  It was all worth it.  What a glorious game!

Let's celebrate 10 years of Dead Space with the Act Man. A journey back to a time when EA still published great games.

I'm glad Fallout 76 is a dud. Hopefully it's sales reflect it as well. If this game was some huge success, that would have been the end of Bethesda as we knew them. Suddenly EVERYTHING would have needed at least some kind of online multi-player mode.

Man, I have so many fond memories of first playing Ocarina of Time back in the day. Happy 20th Anniversary.

I've been reading forums, and it's finally happening, the people who grew up with the Wii are now pushing it as "the best Nintendo console ever". I still remember defending the thing on Gamespot when everyone was running around making the console to be the worst thing imaginable.

I wonder if posterity will also follow the whims of nostalgia, like aesthetic sentiment has recently. In any case, as another Wii apologist I'll fully defend their nostalgia. Easily the best console of its generation

The thing with the Wii is that I feel that it was much better at the time than it is now.

Don't get me wrong the system still has great games to play today such as: Super Mario Galaxy, Sin & Punishment 2, Xenoblade Chronicles. No More Heroes, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Project M, etc.

But back in the day what made the system really stood out was the unique games it had, much due to the "Blue Ocean strategy". A lot of the headlining games were very unique for the time. On top of that it also featured the Virtual Console in which for the first time we could experience retro games on our main system. Today, creative and "out there" game concepts are all avaliable in the indie scene, while retro games are easily obtainable anywhere. At the time I was in heaven playing Super Casltevania IV and playing games like a relative high production 2D NES remake like A Boy and His Blob or just Suda weirdness with No More Heroes. But in a post Steam and NES classic world the console doesn't stand out as much as it used to.

Yep, that machine was/is amazing.  I love that i was able to get one on launch night and greatly enjoyed it.  It was one of a kind for sure and quite a phenomenon.

Agreed, which is why I limit my own high praise to the gen it was released in. I do think the controls mean it may have some power outside of that context, though, as that hasn't been picked up by gaming in general to nearly the same degree.
