To me Gamecube and Wii U were the ones who should have sold big numbers. But obviously that's not the way it worked out.
"Wii-like shovelware" means nothing in the post Steam floodgates era.
The Wii U had excellent first party titles. Bad everything else.
Not sure what you dislike about the Switch. It's basically a continuation of Wii U Nintendo first party efforts, sometimes literally.

Switch is better hardware too!
Do you use it as intended? On the toilet? In bed? Whilst watching football on the tv? On an aeroplane etc?
I wouldn't be able to game much of anything these days without a second screen.
As intended? Yeah, I play games on it.
It's not that I dislike Switch...I just don't see why it's such a hit compared to Wii U. Yeah, the controller is better...the REAL controller. And the hardware is marginally better. The online service is a huge step back from Wii U. I also think it's hilarious that 80% of it's best games are Wii U ports and everyone loves that, but when Sony or MS get last-gen ports everyone cries about it.
It's because:
#1 Nobody played the games since they didn't own a Wii U. The Wii U had less market penetration than the fucking Dreamcast.
#2 The games are portable. Dark Souls Remastered made me roll my eyes when I saw them charging $40 for it on Steam. It's $40 for the same experience but with slightly touched up textures. But paying $40 to play Dark Souls on the go is incredible.

The Wii U is the first draft of the Switch. It's no wonder the finished version is more successful.
So you're saying Nintendo released an piece of shit, unfinished product with the Wii U?
I guess that's where I just don't care. I've never ever been a handheld person, so I've never cared for playing anything on the go. I typically like playing my games when I'm home, and doing everything else when I'm out.
To play Nintendo's games.
Exactly. Dumb, semi-retarded question GG.
Hey, you said it, not me.
Sometimes a first draft is better than the finished product. In this case, I prefer the first draft; but I don't have the finished product, so I could be wrong. More importantly, the Wii U's gimmick wasn't a good one in a world already saturated with smartphones and tablets, whereas a home console/portable device is right in the hardcore Nintendo wheelhouse, and offers a unique enough experience to attract people outside of it, too. Not to mention how terrible the name was.
That name was/is horrid.
And confusing to the average consumer (moron), which by definition should make up a large portion of sales.
I totally agree there...that name is the worst of all time. Wii was bad enough for a name...then taking that and adding a fucking U onto it was comical. I literally thought it was a joke when it was announced. And yeah the Tablet was kind of dumb. It was cool for a few games, but most of the time I just wanted to use the normal pad. And what used to piss me off was that some games you were forced to use the tablet pad even if they said you could just use the pro-pad. There was certain segments in games where you HAD to use the tablet.
Overall though, I liked the system, it was decently powerful for 2012, the Pro-pad was nice, the online service was pretty good and the whole miiverse thing was really cool despite once again, having a dumb name. And the must have software was all really good. No idea why they got rid of the miiverse/community hub thing. To me that was the best part of the service.
Well shit...
I can't say I was using it daily or even weekly, but I did have fun when I did use it. Had some good back and forth conversations in the Harvest Moon community and the Solomon's Key community of all things. It was fun to see how people used the stamps to create pictures from games that offered them as rewards. Of course, with no Miiverse, those are meaningless now too.
