NintendoLife reviews Samus returns - 10/10
"This is far and away one of the best Metroid games ever made, and one of the best examples of the entire Metroidvania genre as a result"nintendolife.com impressions gamingeek
The Nintendo direct was awesome. So many games coming to Switch. Xenoblade 2 looked much better than I thought it would. All I need to do now is beat XCX before 2 launches... Doom looked great as well. Hilarious that thet threw in Pokken with NBA and Fifa . Mario looked great as well and I'm definitely interested in Octopath.
Now that I'm a good portion into System Shock 2, I can really see the influence it had on Bioshock big time. I still don't agree that it's a better game as many of the old school elitists like to claim....maybe if I had played it in 1999 or whatever I would feel the same way. But it's certainly in the same franchise of titles, no doubt.
Bioshock basically takes the ideas presented in this game and, as most games of the past 10 years, makes the whole experience more user friendly. As is the case with most games in the early days of 3d gaming, you really have to learn the ropes to get the most out of this game. It's not just pick up and play. And most developers at this time, be it on PC or console, were struggling with pace of play and how to properly start off a game while trying to teach the player how to play, and at the same time making it a seamless learning experience that transitions smoothly into the core of the title. It's why we used to get a ton of games that started off slow or downright shitty to the point where you almost give up on it...but then a few hours in when the game opens up to you, it becomes brilliant. That's exactly how System Shock 2 is.
The beginning is very odd and bizarre, and the inventory system isn't something we'd see these days whatsoever in a title like this. But the core gameplay and design is as strong as Bioshock. It's very similar to Deus Ex 1 compared to Human Revolution. In fact Deus Ex is really the closest comparison I can make to SS2. Only Deus Ex has a much stronger opening hour or two.
I totally recommend playing this and enduring the first few hours though. It's a great experience.
I'm surprised at how close they are to eachother. They're only small screenshots, but there seems to be very little loss of quality in the geometry, with the biggest difference being texture quality, and most likely different effects.
Also, to come back to the topic of having to download part of the game, even if you buy a physical copy: I don't know who asked anymore, but didn't MS do the same thing with a fairly prominent release, where you had to download the multiplayer portion of the game? Maybe it wasn't a Halo game, but I clearly remember this having been done before. If the required download on Switch would be limited to say 3Gig I won't mind too much. If they're asking us to download 15Gig however, that's a wholely different proposition. For all MS's waffling on about how the whole world should be on limitless broadband or get lost, truth is that not all of us are freed from a monthly cap.
Yeah, that was foolish thinking on their part. Just like when they wanted to lock a game disc to a certain console.
I still think this could have been wildly successful if they went that route, but they needed to also hand-in-hand announce a giant price cut for the games. Something like $40 for a brand new retail game instead of $60.

I can't see game stores that rely heavily on used sales supporting the console if it did choose to do that. It wouldn't have any advertising and very little shelf space
That direct was fantastic! Do do you see that new Odyssey trailer!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!! Everything they showed!!!! GOTF!!!!!!!!!! Fuck BOTW!!!
Xenoblade looks cool. Switch is getting actual 3rd party support. Good stuff.
I haven't seen it yet. Read some stuff. Seems Bethesda is the new Ubisoft relating to Nintendo stuff at least. Good to hear about Doom and Wolfenstein, hope they have gyro aiming. Supposedly there is a Project Octopath demo on the eshop right now. My Switch auto downloaded the ARMS free DLC today without me knowing too. Good stuff.
I've been taking advantage of Switch's portability each night, taking Splatoon 2 up to bed.
So weird that you are seeing 2K games and Bethesda as the main Switch supporters. With EA, Capcom, Activision and even Ubi to an extent skirting around the system with side projects or nothing.
Some gaf member is predicting that a team from Bethesda is making Metroid Prime 4. That's why Nintendo is receiving all of he Bethesda live. Didn't Edge say something like that?

Mario + Rabbids shouldn't be considered a side project. It's too good.

Indeed...I said they should get id Software to make the new Metroid with the DOOM team.
Anyone tries the project octopath demo on switch? I think I already love it. The nostalgic vibes. Like a 16bit rpg amped up. Kind or reminds me of Golden. Sun.

Switch version looks blurry. Like a really low end PC setting. If it has a solid frame rate, that's not a bad trade off.

My son is so interested in basketball games now. I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or happy.
Happy Frigay, fellas!
BOOBIES!!!
