It's going to be the same thing as Wii U 3rd-party speaking if you ask me. The only big 3rd-party game anytime soon is Skyrim....a 6 year old game. Then there's some cool niche stuff like the Square game and whatnot. You have all these developers saying yeah we like it but we have no plans. I think it's just too underpowered and bizarre to be much more than the usual Nintendo machine. Which is fine as long as they support it a hell of a lot better than they did the U.
Yeah, unless the Switch goes on to sell in Wii like numbers, this'll be another machine starved for decent 3rd party support, unless it was paid for by Nintendo themselves. Perhaps if Nintendo allowed for a divide between home only and portable only games, things could turn out different. Because really, if you have to scale your game between PS4 and Pro, and Xbone and Scorpio, how hard could it be to scale it down a little bit further to a docked Switch? It's not that far below Xbone.
Personally I'd be more than happy with a console that has a split library of games. I'd love to see games featuring a lot of touch controls, and I'd love to be able to play more graphically intense games when at home.
I think what sours this most is that Nintendo was making noises that they were on their way to fix this, with focusing on getting more games on the system. This must have only related to first party games then, as 3rd parties are clearly just sitting this one out.
All of that doesn't matter. You know why? World of Goo is coming to the Switch.
This is the only third party game anyone needs!!! Does matter that it's almost 10 years old? No!!! You know why? BECAUSE FUCKING GOO BALLS, THAT'S WHY!!!
I endorse gooey balls on the Switch.
Has anyone played Human Resource Machine? It's the only game of the 3 I haven't played, after Little Inferno proved to be a bit too slight of a game to my liking.
Scorpio is a "full blown next-gen machine," claims Ori dev Not a "half-assed upgrade" like PS4 Pro
Poppycock! Everyone knows that a system isn't true next-gen unless you need it to play the newest games.
Trump’s trade tariff could impact the price of consoles And games in the US
To think that such taxes will do anything other than raise prices on consumer goods is naive. The only way something like this could prove usefull is if said tax makes it cheaper for said goods to be produced in the US, which won't happen. It's the Brexit all over again where xenofobic and protectionistic reflexes will just result in life becoming more expensive for Joe Public.
Here, in full.
EDIT: bolded the parts I was talking about.
On the whole, yes. But there is evidence of what I predicted, portable developers supporting it like Nippon Ichi or the Bravely Default team. And there are indies. Ubisoft says they have more stuff planned. Everybody else is in wait and see mode.
It's getting Steep too, we've already seen comparison footage (check youtube).
While I agree with most of what you say, I think you fixate too much on Skyrim being old. New systems always get ports of older games for a start. Last year the XB1 and PS4 got Skyrim Remastered, a Batman Arkham remastered and COD4 remastered. And there have been a fuckton more over the years too.
It's like you're saying that everybody is allowed to get HD remasters except Nintendo. Before you say it (yes, I know) the other systems get tons of new games too unlike Switch.
Also Skyrim is the new remastered version which only came out last year on XB1 and PS4 so pointing out that it's 6 years old isn't that relevant. And its pretty telling from the comparison footage we've seen that it is based on the remastered version and not as-feared based on the 360/ps3 version.
I'm personally looking forward to Skyrim on Switch, as I never played it on 360, despite owning it. I have no desire to play the game on a system that sounds like a fucking hoover on steroids with a wired controller (yes OG core 360) and I know I wont get the TV time to play a game this big. Offscreen play or flipping the Switch between tvs, for me is a huge selling point.
It'll be drowning in a golden shower. There are worse ways to go.
For me personally I'm not really concerned about multi platform games on the Switch one way or the other because the system itself really does nothing that will convince me to want to make it my platform of choice to play those multi platform games on. For me it will be a system to play Nintendo games on as well as the odd game from other developers that are exclusive.
I kind of feel that way too. I feel as though we are going to see tons of whistleblowers during this presidency.
Yeah I definitely can't see Trump lasting for 4 years. Hell I'd be surprised if he even lasts for one year.
Will one of those whistleblowers be the guy from Outlast?
You know what I'm kind of tired of when it comes to the whole 3rd-party Nintendo thing? Developers who come out and say "Hey, we're huge Nintendo fans!"
What the fuck do I care if you're a Nintendo fan for? This would be like Bungie or whoever saying Gee you know we're just huge fans of Crash Bandicoot on the PS1 so we really want to work on more Playstation games. What the fuck does this matter, other than to stroke the fanboy ego of the Nintendo guy so his feelings aren't as crushed when you tell him you're still not making a game on his system?
Nintendo is a business just like Sony and Microsoft, and SEGA and Atari...I don't care if you named your kid after Luigi (you fucking freak) or have a car freshener that smells like Miyamoto's nuts after a long jog. I only care what you think of their current hardware and if you think it's worth your time or not.
If that causes the Canadian dollar to get to equal or even greater value then the USD then I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to that.
R.I.P. Mary Tyler Moore.
