Started playing Titan Souls.  I'm loving it so far.  An overworld with sparse zelda like puzzles and boss fights where one hit kills both sides.  Of course, your avatar is one big hitbox, and the boss' hitbox is a few pixels large.  Not sure I'll be able to stick with it to the end, due to a lack of time to devote to the game, but it's very enjoyable to me.

edit: Vader, you should play this, you'll love it.  All bosses are clever, it's usualy easy to figure out what you need to do, but hard to execute.  It's currently 75% down on Steam to about $3.75.

The following info comes from a Reddit AMA with games journalist Laura Kate Dale...

- surprises left for the Jan. 12th event

- a lot of third party stuff not touched on yet

- more hardware details

- UI system level info and other info not yet spoiled

- very info-heavy presentation

- at least one new unexpected IP

- Zelda: Breath of the Wild could make launch, but launching in June seems more likely

- initial reports stated 3 hours max battery, but no details on whether that's full clock speed or portable clock speed

- longer battery estimates have since come out

- has heard about two third party exclusives, the Rabbids RPG, and one other

- suspects there's a third third party exclusive as well

- Initial VC library won't be a large amount of titles

- Wii U ports vary from extensive to minimal enhancements

- CGI teaser for BGE2 is in the works, less than a minute long, but may not air during the event

- Mother 3 rumor keeps floating around, but no more info to share

- Monolith Soft's new project is something new, not the Xenoblade X Switch port

- this new title is in the same vain as Xenoblade and X in terms of combat style

- no reveals from Platinum

- price might start at $250, positive it will be below $300

- March 17th will be the release date for PAL regions and the rest of the world will get it the same week

- upgrade fee for VC games

- doesn't think Retro Studios' new project will be shown at the event

- Retro is not working on Metroid

- Mario game will be shown, playable at the press event and will launch day 1

- Luigi's Mansion 3 still seems likely

- undocked games will still run better than Wii U games

- custom joy-cons will be a thing

- special kind of vibration in Joy-Cons

- Joy-Cons can can be charged via joy-con grip and will have about a 5 hour battery life

- very sure of there being a touch screen

- bluetooth capabilities, but not sure of what it's used for

- Pro controller should have basic gyro controls

- holds up to 128 GB on Micro SD

- presentation should be 30-60 mins

- every major event between Jan 12 and Mar 17 will include hands on for the Switch

- no additional docks at launch, but will eventually see release

- carts are have a different shape when compared to 3DS/DS

- one dev kit went out in July and another more powerful one went out in October

- a lot of the specs info we've heard has been based on the July dev kit

- region free

- achievement system, but not sure if it's different from the My Nintendo ones

- your account on the Switch will be the one you use for Miitomo/Mario Run

More stuff from Laura

I have heard achievements, but I can't seem to clarify if they are separate or not from the new My Nintendo ones folk are earning for playing Smartphone games.
Concerning Pokémon :

So I talked to Tom Phillips a lot before he ran his Stars story, as I was also working on the same leak, via different sources. He had a few bits of info I did not so I stepped back and let him handle it.

He was unsure about names Stars and Eclipse, I had only heard Stars.

I have heard 20+ new monsters being saved for Stars. Tom doesn't think that's likely. I honestly do not know if folk would be happy with that or not.

On Digital Foundry clock speeds:

I still think Eurogamer's info is solid, knowing their info sources and their reporting techniques and practices. Most of my confidence in the DF post comes from my willingness to accept EG as having done their homework. I had a single source matching EG. I do not know DF's sources.

Concerning Dark Souls 3

Still confident they have it running on Switch. I do not know if the system was in docked or undocked mode when they were happy with performance.

Like pretty much every games console, the switch has gone through multiple dev kit iterations. There was one floating around in July a LOT of info on specs has been based on. Another went out to bigger devs in October. Some bigger indies are still working from the July dev kits. The Oct kit is more powerful overall than the July dev kit.

Geez, I feel like the single lonely guy being set up for dates. I was alone on Christmas Day, not like for a week or something.

Seriously though, I would love to have a VGPress vacation somewhere with everyone.

That's 20-25 million eggs all in the same basket.

That would be low considering 3DS sales. How are you enjoying this 4 Celcius weather this week? Where abouts are you staying? I'm right at the top end of the Northern line.

Well, apparently we're only leaving tomorrow.  Good thing we checked our tickets.  Nyaa  I'd have to check, but I think the relatives live somewhere about sidcup or orpington.  If you're interested in meeting up, I'd see if I can free up some time from all the doing nothingness.  Perhaps we could meet up somewhere in the center?

And yes, I do not think that the switch will go on to sell as well as the 3DS, unless Nintendo manage to quickly drop below €190.

Sidcup and Orpington don't even have tube stations. You're around 50 miles away from me.

This is why I don't go into central much. There are all sorts of train upgrades happening over this festive period and strikes on one of the providers. You might get a highly delayed service. I bailed on several meet ups recentely because of the weather and train works.

So Laura Kate Dale is saying that there are 16 new tracks in the MK8 Switch port. Added with the DLC and existing tracks that means 64 tracks??

Well I figured I'd be travelling to the center at least once or twice regardless.  Up to you.

Man, Titanfall 2 is soooooooo freakin' good. Been going back and forth between the campaign and online multiplayer and both aspects of this game are fantastic. The game looks great and gameplay is so much fun. The multiplayer maps are very well laid out as well.

Did anyone here ever play a SNES game called E.V.O. - The Search for Eden for the SNES? There aren't many 16 bit games I'm not familiar with, but this one officially got "lost treasure" status from me. The game is surprisingly fun. You basically start as a fish and evolve as a creature throughout a couple hundred million years. Neat little concept and very good music.

I heard about it and I remember seeing it in stores way back in the day but I don't think that I've ever actually tried it.

It's a 3 hr round trip for me to get to central. I don't feel up to it, medication is kicking my ass but without it, crippling joint pain.

Well I wouldn't put it at the top of my backlog, but like I said it's interesting. It goes right along with other Enix games of the time like Illusion of Time/Gaia, Terranigma, ActRaiser, etc. with themes of evolution, higher powers, and such. As I go along I'm starting to see a few flaws. Too much grinding for evolution points (which all you to advance your creature's stats and abilities) for instance. Still, it's a pretty unique game, especialy for the time when it came out.
