Its Nintendo's job to get people making games on their console before a single one is sold. If they can't do that, that's their problem. In terms of consumers, you can't expect people to buy your system over another if it doesn't have the goods on day 1.

If they are not though, do you think Nintendo should delay the NX from spring 2017 till holiday 2017 to bump up the specs and release something more in line with Neo/Scorpio and obviously higher priced too?
Wii U has pretty much been dead since 2014. I think I've bought 3 games in the past two years for it. IDK if Nintendo just gave up on the system once 3rd-parties did or if they just completely fucked up the development pipeline, but the system really turned into a joke quickly.

I think releasing something on the level of the other consoles is their only hope. It doesn't have to be the strongest one...it can be the weakest like the PS2 was. But like the PS2, it needs to be in the same ballpark instead of a whole gen behind. And they need to nail the interface, marketing, support, everything that you expect from any console. Unless they came up with another trendy fad that people will buy regardless...but I doubt it.
And when you say this you mean Neo/Scorpio and not PS4/XB1?
If it was PS4 level it would be in the same ballpark no? Isn't Neo only about twice as powerful as PS4? While Scorpio is 4.5x XB1.
From what I remember XB1 is 1.2 teraflops, PS4 is around 1.8 - 2 tflp, Neo is about 4tflp and Scorpio 6tflp. Wii U was around 360 flops.
It's not like PS2 generation compared to PS3 generation or even PS3 generation compared to PS4 generation. Neo and Scorpio are literally half step improvements compared to previous generations. Also if most of that power is going to be sucked up rendering at 4K or by VR then a normal console on a normal 1080p tv will still look comparably great?
I think what's encouraging is that both MS and Sony are saying they will leave no one behind, every game will still run on PS4 and XB1 etc. So if NX is around the original XB1/Ps4 spec and if what we have heard is true, from a dev on gaf, that said any current gen game should run fine. Then theoretically there should be no technological reason why it shouldn't have support.
But then if Neo/Scorpio users or even XB1/PS4 owners kept using those machines for their multiplat needs, NX would have poor 3rd party sales and thus poor support again.
So I'm not sure what they should do. Neo and Scorpio will be premium priced, has any Nintendo console sold at a premium price? The only real benefit I could see of delaying NX for a more expensive version is in consumer mindshare and it will given developers another 9 months to work on their titles.

Any game that takes advantage of what the Scorpio can do is going to look like complete ass on Xbone. It'll play, but it'll be like GTA5 360 compared to PS4 version. Probably worse.
In all honesty I don't see the NX setting the world on fire regardless just because of Nintendo's reputation of having shit support with consoles that dry up too fast. If they could somehow change their image and sell shittons of great 3rd-party games like it was the SNES again I'd be amazed. Their competition is too strong. They need to compete against somebody stupid like SEGA. Sony and Microsoft have shown an ability to, even if they make a huge mistake, come right back and correct that mistake within months. Which means Nintendo can't make ANY mistakes for a long period of time if they hope to win back hearts and minds.
If they don't, I don't care. Kind of like Reggie shrugging his shoulders in that old Gamecube pic.

So I'm not sure how much of a difference it will make if Scorpio is burning through calculations to make games run in 4K, vs a 1080p machine on a 1080p television. Everything Sony showed at E3 was done on the bog standard PS4 and the games looked great to me.
You say this, but Wii was last gen and it was a huge success for them. I know your feelings on it and how you feel it has negatively impacted on Wii U (now - today) but the system itself came out of nowhere to scoop the big boys and was amazing success regardless of how high tech gamers feel about it. But yeah, if you are talking about NX in the context as to whether they will find it hard if they are simply producing a similar conventional hardware - they will have a rough time regardless and GC showed that it still wont guarantee big sales numbers. So this is why I'm wondering if its worth them beefing up to Neo levels or whether it's better to just leave the console around OG PS4 levels.
One would assume a OG PS4 level machine would be cheaper or that the underlying tech would be cheap enough that they could afford to pack in whatever spin they have planned for NX and still come out with a cheaper sale price.
A Neo level console will be expensive by itself - for Sony even to price up. If Nintendo did that, then adding their spin would make it even more expensive.
Oh who cares about specs, it's about the games. Nintendo better have the greatest line up of games we have ever seen.
Evenif they don't, after this E3 now they know all they need is to show up one game of the holy trinity to make everyone go OMFGWOWOWOWOW and forget about anything else. For NX it will be Mario.

Everything cancelled on U for NX? But it's not like high quality software helped Wii U sell. Until very recentely, maybe even still the system had more highly reviewed games than other systems, on average - there was an article about it (don't ask me to find it). Didn't matter. Games don't even really matter anymore as long as you have mindshare and specs. There wasn't much good software in the first year of PS4/XB1 either. Everyone was about dem graphics.
Nothing could save Wii U it seemed once the narrative had been established, about how bad it sucked, even from 2 years before it launched, there was constant media negativity. So if the NX tech sux so bad for the gamers on GAF, or games journos in their 30s, I doubt there will any software titles that can drive high sales.
