It depends on what this story is talking about and what NX actually is in terms of normal or hybrid etc. They use the words "VR function" but that is inherently misleading. They could literally be beefing up the specs to a level that would support VR well, so compatible third party devices could work with it. And they could be doing this because all the Xbox Scorpio/PS4K talk spooked them.
Maybe AMD offered them a custom version of that $199 5.5 teraflop GPU if they delayed the launch a bit? The RX 480.
EDIT: Digital Foundry is saying the PS4 Neo GPU is point for point the same as that GPU with different clock speeds and TFlop output.
No reason to think AMD didn't offer the same thing to MS and Nintendo too.
The other more likely scenario is that if it is a hybrid system the screen controller would slot into a VR shell for cell phone VR. I assume it would only work with little apps and weird puzzle games. But who knows, Nintendo's games aren't as resource heavy as most third parties efforts. It wouldn't be a case of getting Assasins Creed graphics in VR, more like Captain Toad VR. And that, if it worked and didn't add a huge cost to the system - would be a neat addition.
Better than having to spend a huge amount of money on either an Xbox Scorpio or PS4 Neo PLUS a VR headset too. EDIT: For cheap ass non-commital VR skeptics like me, I mean.
And by "the touch of death" I assume you mean rubbing Wii Us all over them.

Clockspeeds makes the difference. PS4Neo is rumoured to be clocked at 911mhz making it 4.1Tflops while RX480 is supposed to be clocked at least at 1200mhz, making it 5.5 Tflops.
Basically this is how you calculate flops:
Shader units*2*clockspeed in Ghz.
2306*2*0.911 = 4.2 Tflops.
2306*2*1.2 = 5.5 Tflops.

It's the same here with the UK govt. You ask them a question about something and either never get a reply or have to chase it up incessantly and no one knows who should be dealing with what. And then they suddenly come up from nowhere asking you a year later why you didn't mention such and such, when they don't even reply to your letters in the first place. And you get shit for it.

No offense but this is a bogus argument. Obviously they will sell better than last gen systems if you take away the best selling one. Even if you assume that onyl 33% of Wii owners lined up with the Demographics of the PS3/30 (it is much more than that) there is still a decline.

The site should break it down by console so we can see what is the truth. If the U only sells about 15 million units in its lifetime(which could be likely), then this cycle is already at pace to sell about 80 to 85 million consoles less.
Regardless of who is selling what, it's hardly a good thing when this gen is set to have less console owners than the last.
According to that (US specific) chart, the only generation this current one is tracking ahead of is the PS1/N64 generation.
The PS2/GC/Xbox generation sold more, the Wii/360/PS3 generation sold more.
The current gen sales are tracking in that line anyway. It remains to be seen if there will somehow be some spike in new console sales. So overall, less console owners.
