That about right?
A lot of it is coming from people who like to complain, but I do think you underestimate the draw of a single player mode and story. It's always been there, and has been enhanced a bit more since SF2 (though I'd agree they took a step backwards with it in IV). People do like it.
Also, I think it's fair to say that Netherealm has changed the game with MK9, MK10, and Injustice. They added a robust story, and while it won't win an award they were satisfying to play through and I'd argue have been good enough that they're expected now. They raised the bar. With the standard light player stories, SF would feel a little behind, but not having it at launch really made Capcom look like they were behind the ball.
Fuck Street Fighter. I'm talking about Resident Evil and Assassin's Creed and all these other games that are designed around a single player journey that now have to have online co-op shoehorned into them.
Are you throwing a dig at me?
How would that be a dig at you?
The article you copied was about Street Fighter specifically...
Well I don't know, just the way you posted that right after replying to me and all.
Street Fighter V as it stands RIGHT NOW has more story to it than Street Fighter IV did. Although the rounds of fights to reach the beginning, middle and end story pieces are less, there's just as much, if not more, story there...
...and if people want to fight character after character, they can play Survival. It's the same, exact thing as an Arcade Mode but with Modifiers that make it more interesting to play.
Did I play Arcade Mode in 2, 3 and 4...? Sure... but not for everyone, as I am sure most people would say they did the same, but the thing that's always given SF it's "legs" was One on One VERSUS fighting...
The thing that bothers me the most is: the people who are complaining the most and loudest and causing Capcom to rethink everything are NOT fans and probably don't have or have never played the game...
It seems the new age of gaming isn't about playing games at all; it's about defending the rights of gamers... whether or not the topic you are crusading for is valid or not, or whether or not you ever asked to be defended...
I swear I'm going to start a development house and BAN the entire team from reading reviews and/or forum feedback and say: "Make what you damn want!"
I wasn't talking about the article, but about Capcom's strategy as a whole that they've been using for awhile now.
Amazing gifs are bad.
It wasn't a response or dig at you at all, but my frustration was born out of the article you copied. Seriously, developers are going to get to the point where they don't know what the FUCK anyone wants anymore because they now have to consider contradictory requests, be sensitive to being offensive, be socially responsible and they have to please EVERYONE...
What makes it worse is: I am pretty damn sure a large percentage of people spewing "opinions" online now are trolling... yes, seriously... if something is blue, they say it should have been green; if a woman is a strong female character, they'll say stop catering to women who don't even play the games; the same people would claim BOOBS are offensive, yet will scream if a game is censored in ANY way... and then get the person at the development house that merely posted the news on the companies Twitter page fired... it's getting to be waaay out of hand...
...I H-A-T-E politics and the game industry is being over-run with political BS.
Or it's about GIVING US A FULL FUCKING GAME.
Who is us?
Were you planning on buying Street Fighter V?
Nah this shit is happening everywhere. Can't go a day without some SJW thread on gaf with a million people being banned cause they dare have an opinion that isn't PC.
If it had content like MK does absolutely
Did you buy Street Fighter IV?
...or Street Fighter 3...
...or Street Fighter X Tekken...
...or Marvel vs. Capcom 3...?
You're not a Street Fighter fan, by your own admission... It's like saying "I'll play a Sonic game when they make it more like Mario."
Not at launch, it didn't have a story mode or good single player content either. I have it on 3DS. Capcom fighters never had good single player content. Sega, namco, MK know how to do it. This one was supposed to try but they failed.
How could they have failed when the time they said Story Mode was going to be added in hasn't even come yet? (June?)
They never said it was coming at launch ever,
If Capcom fighters have never had good single player content, and Street Fighter is still considered the most influential, most popular and most genre defining one on one fighter of all time... what does that tell you...? Street Fighter fans never played it for the single player content.
It's not Street Fighter that has changed, it's the people who call themselves gamers... they're a mass of demanding people that don't know what they want any more and are impossible to satisfy.
They said they were going to do something like MK. Word is already out that it's like an hour long and complete shit compared to MK. So when it does come out it won't be good.
You seem to be mistaking buying the game with having to like what they are doing. You can buy the game, love the game and still hate what they are doing which is total bullshit. This is an early access game, call it as such, don't sell for full price. This is capcom, one of the greats and this is the crap they are resorting to now. Is the next RE going to be but one level and hope for the rest. I will buy it, I'm sure it will be great, it still going to suck. I'm glad there are purple that won't buy it.
No one is saying SFV is bad. No one. It's a shame it's surrounded by this terrible business decision.
