Hmm, stumped on what to play next. Was going to do Castlevania Lords of Shdow but it is 18 hours. Tomb Raider Anniversary the same.

Looks like I'll swing from 360 back to PS3 for next game. *Storms back to library, indignant and clenching beer can*

EDIT: *Comes back*, fuckit, Heavy Rain it is.

Read that as "flogsauto" which would also be accurate.

I just beat Alien Isolation....just in time for The Evil Within!!! Back to back horror games?! Is this 1999?!

Its a great game, I give it an 8.5 rating. The detail in graphics and sound is absolutely incredible...I went and watched Alien yesterday and this game NAILS the look and vibe perfectly. The story is awesome, and everything works really well throughout.

I've already said what I like about it, so these are my gripes that hold it back from being a true elite game:

  • Its too long. Its one of those games that feels like they tried to stretch it out too much towards the end to make it longer when it doesn't need to be. Most of the game the pace is perfect too.
  • Certain parts of the game are too scripted and get frustrating, though luckily only a few times.
  • I would have liked them to do more with enemy on enemy combat. It happens a few times but they could have done more with that.

I highly recommend it to anyone who likes atmospheric games like Metroid Prime, Bioshock, and REmake.

Just one part in the middle of the game, its a scripted segment and the difficulty goes way up. But if you play it on normal or easy, its fine. I started it on hard mode then changed to normal on that part.

These Resident Evil Revelations 2 screens make it look like a 3DS game. Are you serious Capcom?

The Evil Within review round-up

  • VideoGamer: 8/10 - At times it feels like a Mikami megamix. It's not unusual for directors in either film or games to recall past glories, and few do it better than Mikami. Even though this isn't his best, The Evil Within has enough magic to make it a worthy investment.
  • Joystiq: 2.5/5 - It manages a few moments of inspiration, but their scarcity makes them feel like fortunate accidents rather than deliberate elements of the overall design. It's covered in blood, but the only thing truly horrifying about The Evil Within is how disappointing it is.
  • IGN: 8.7/10 - While its story ends up buckling under its own ambition, there is little here that takes away from the joy of experiencing survival horror under the steady hand of a master of the craft.
  • Game Informer: 9/10 - Horror fans shouldn't let the disappointing story deter them one bit, however. The Evil Within excels at keeping your palms sweaty while delivering a harrowingly rewarding gameplay trial.
  • Escapist: 3/5 - The Evil Within is a noble attempt at bringing back classic survival horror, but it could have learned a thing or two from games that aren't almost ten years old. It has its moments of brilliance, scattered through periods of antagonizing design.
  • Metro: 6/10 - Rather than the future of survival horror this is merely a retread of its defining moments, and even then it rarely manages to equal what has gone before - let alone exceed it.
  • ShackNews: 6/10 - Resident Evil fans will have a serious case of déjà vu when playing The Evil Within. It offers much of the thrills and creepy environments that make the series so enticing, along with some of its frustrations.
  • Polygon: 6.5/10 - There's something to be said for respecting your past successes and building off of them, but The Evil Within is only ever completely successful at half of that equation.
  • SixthAxis: 8/10 - Despite borrowing a lot of well-worn themes from other games and movies (Hello, creepy shop mannequins from Silent Hill), The Evil Within feels fresh and exciting. It's easy to recommend to fans of the original Dead Space and the earlier Resident Evil games.
  • GameTrailers: 9/10 - The Evil Within is a survival-horror masterpiece. Anyone concerned this is just another action game soaked in blood needn't worry. Tense pacing, stunning atmosphere, and terrifying enemy encounters come together to create a journey you may never forget.

PS TV: games removed from compatibility list

I really want to like this system, but damn if Sony doesn't go out of there way to continually make it look worse and worse. Why is it impossible for this company to do more than one thing right at a time?

GG there is a RE revelations 2 video interview with the director and he stated development started on consoles for consoles only, later the subtitle revelations got thrown on it, it was never meant to be a revelations game. Also he said revelations sales took off when it hit consoles so that is why they ignored the 3DS.

I assume you mean Rev 2 not Rev 1 on this? In that case was this meant to be RE7?

3DS sales of the game were still better.

VR is the next logical step for survival horror, Resident Evil producer says

VR is the next logical step for survival horror, Resident Evil producer says

A virtual reality version of Resident Evil has taken one step closer to reality.

S.Mikami: Resident Evil was originally a basic FPS

"When Sony announced the technical characteristics and the number of 3D elements that could display [in the PSone], I was skeptical. […] I thought the game based on the principle that the console would be 50% less powerful announced. So I opted for a first-person shooter game, because it allowed the economy of a character to the screen. There were more than to display the scenery and enemies in 3D. »

"It was then that I played Alone in the Dark, which consisted of fixed sets. It was very interesting, because there's a greater expressiveness. The next step was to fit this model Resident Evil. Without him, Resident Evil would probably become a first-person shooter game. »

You can find the full interview at this address .

Revelations 2 was always mean to be a lower budget game, it was an episodic PS3 donwloable only game. Eventually it got ported to other consoles and for a while might have gone the retail route but they kept it episodic. It has nothing to do with revelations, capcom decided to keep the name for lower budget products that are more horror focused.
