An afternoon of Metroid Prime...gaming bliss.
I'm going to be devil's advocate here and say that the news title is a bit sensationalist. It's not exactly "giving up on it", it's more a thing of realizing the game has run its course, it had a good run but it's in a normal declining tendency right now, and being realistic about what can they achieve with an MMO that's nearing its 10th year online, with massive profits reapt month after month throughout all that time.
RoS fixed almost anything that was wrong with D3 to begin with, it sucks that it took an expansion for them to do that, but it is what it is. As it stands now, D3 is a well rounded, fun action rpg romp that is not without issues, but they're hardly deal-breaking, to me at least.
Dota has nothing to do with Blizzard's RTS stuffs. Even if they migrated the WarCraft universe from RTS to the MMO genre, they still have StarCraft, with another expansion coming to add to WoL and HotS to take care of those needs. As a matter of fact, Blizzard is readying its own take on the MOBA genre, Heroes of the Storm. Which, if it follows Blizzard's tried and true approach to game design (endless iteration and improvement of already successful ideas) it's going to be a blast.
And they also have some other interesting stuff out there like Hearthstone. With yet another WoW expansion coming, I'd say Blizzard is as relevant as ever right now. They've never been an endless parade of franchises, but the ones that they have, they're quite well taken care of right now.
The wife surpised me by organizing a gaming night for my 30th birthday yesterday. My 4 best friends were all sitting in our livingroom the moment I came down the stairs from putting the little one to bed. I don't see any of them as much as I'd like, let alone get them together in one room for some couch gaming like we used to. Good thing I have a WiiU that allows 5 people to play simultaneously
The surprise was fully unexpected, mainly thanks to my birthday being about 10 days ago. The slack I gave her for preparing absolutely nothing for my 30th birthday though... Kind of makes me feel bad about myself back then. Good thing I kept my feelings to myself. Bless her
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition is sooooooo freakin' good. Blizzard truly are masters of their craft. I'd love to see them try their hand at more console games such as trying to put a RTS and/or MMO on consoles. World of Warcrft had an amazing run but after 10 years it only seems natural that it would start winding down, quite a bit has happened during those 10 years. Aren't they working on some project called 'Titan'? Any word on what that may be?
I've never played a Blizzard game. I'd love to start with Diablo.
After nearly bricking my Surface Pro2 up while trying to get all my devices to store my mail on my NAS through Outlook, I found a much safer and easier way to achieve the same thing. I googled for some script to allow me to add my own email adress in bcc to all outgoing mails, told Outlook to store incoming mails from myself in my sent messaged folder et voila! Outgoing mails aren't stored locally, but now I'm just sending a copy to myself. I am both extremely happy about this and terrified to discover it not working anymore in a matter of days.
Oh the headline was intended to be ludicrously sensational. WoW has dropped only 5 million users from it's peak and continues to have something like 7 million users, which is still insanely successful.
Diable 3 was an unmitigated disaster (by Blizzard standards) and the same type of users who were once Starcraft addicts now spend their time on Dota 2.
Activision killed off Blizzard's space mmo in the face of Destiny, which indicates that the smartest publisher on the planet has lost confidence in them.
Thats'a clever workaround.
I was going to defend Blizzard from Aspro's negativity, but Battle.net says it's too busy for me to log in ight now; I have to wait 7+ minutes! WTF, Blizzard?
