Word or warning though: It's going to be somewhat hard to find. The only store that I saw that actually carried it was GameStop. No other retailer seems to know it exists. Even GS got only a small handful of copies.

In that case that's probably the route I'll go. One of the things that I don't like about the more recent Harvest Moon games is that there is so much to do that it can almost be overwhelming at times. I like having optional directions, but at some point it went from being a peaceful relaxing game to "I'VE GOT TOO MUCH TO DO TODAY!'

Uncomplicated.... that's what I'm looking for.

What do you consider to be the best Harvest Moon game in the series, robio?

Yeah I didn't even see it at Gamestop today. I have no problem buying this one digitally if that's what it comes to though. It seems like something I'd enjoy and my knife weilding rebel of a daughter would both enjoy playing. She played the heck out of Grand Bazaar and really got into it.

Magical Melody for GameCube (there's a tough to find Wiimake version of it too) is probably my favorite. It stays true to the "classic" Harvest Moon formula, but did a good job of including an updated social system without going overboard with it like the more recent ones do. Plus it has this built-in acheivement system so that you're earning "notes" for doing things that range from marrying someone, shipping a bunch of crops, or even doing something as simple as taking your first steps. Accumulating notes is the key to winning to game (collect 50 and you free the Harvest Goddess from being a statue... not sure why she was a statue...), but there's 100 of them in total if you really want to do everything. It's a nice system because it keeps some smaller goals in front of you at all times, and helps cut down on some of the more tedious moments of the game.

Harvest Moon 64 is pretty good (though it's too expensive on the collectors market and will never be released on the VC), so Back to Nature for the Playstation/PSN is a good subsitute for it. And on the DS Grand Bazaar was a neat little evolution of the system that brought running a shop into the mix. Wasn't executed perfectly, but it was a neat idea.

Me! It's actually on the "to-buy" list no matter what, but since I grabbed Lego City (and still have nothing to play it on), I figure I need to finish that first.

It actually one-ups Lego City pretty squarely from the get-go. There's over a hundred Marvel characters to play as. There's so much more to the city and areas you fight in. The humor and writing is much better and instantly relatable because you are dealing with not only Marvel history, but current pop-culture references because Super Hero movies are the "in" thing now. You can have either Chase McCain making donut jokes --or-- Tony Stark complaining that Sandman just wrecked the sign on Stark Tower, saying "Hey! I just fixed that!" ...referencing The Avengers movie within the first few seconds of the game!

...and the references just continue on and on and on after that. You get the same wit as Lego City, but having heroes you've known forever delivering the lines make them that much better! The action is as simple as all the rest of the Lego games but the scope of the story, the amount of heroes, the differing powers and the open-world begging to be explored more by unlocked heroes, makes it sooo much more playable than any other Lego game!

I won't spoil anything but seeing some of the characters in Lego form is worth the price of admission alone. Lego Nick Fury, for example...

Seeing the Shield Carrier... epic from the opening scene and all throughout...

The pacing is pure comic book, rushing from one frantic action battle to the next, often switching characters or adding more to your team as you go along; again, the puzzles are simple, but using Lego Spiderman to create a web-rope so the Hulk can change back into Bruce Banner to have him climb the rope up to a tower to throw a water tower at Sandman while Iron Man fights off Sand Minions... it's not hard to do, but it takes a second to devise what you need to do, and then you just have a blast doing it... THAT'S what this game is all about!

The only thing thing Lego City may have as an advantage is unique use of the Game Pad, if you're into things like that. As far as I can tell, and I really didn't even look into it yet, there's no use for the Game Pad in the Lego Marvel game. IIRC, the only thing displayed on the pad while you play is the Shield logo. I could be completely wrong about that, but considering that it came out on everything today, I don't think they took them time to put Wii U specific features in that version. Truth be told, too, I would very easily mistake the Wii U version for a PS3 or 360 version. Nothing mind blowing about it graphics-wise so far, but I say this without seeing any PS3 or 360 screens at all.

Well I'll get that soon enough anyway. Looks like a good multiplayer game. And I'm sure I'll enjoy Lego City anyway. And fuck, it's all moot until I get my damned console back. Seriously, what the hell are they doing? Are they out of working Wii's and using mine to play Game & Wario since I'm the only person on earth who bought the game?

It's not always completely open. You start off with a few missions then eventually the city opens up!

I posted the review bits on the page back.

Heads up, the Wii U version gives you multiplayer with separate viewpoints on the tv and gamepad screens. You get your own whole screen to yourself in multiplayer.

A brand name and fancy commercials that probably cost more to produce than most of the launch games.
