I like the Yakuza series quite a bit. Its kind of part Shenmue, part quirky awesome Atlus style game. Adventure meets beat em up with a great cast and story. May be the best thing SEGA does these days. It feels like the kind of games SEGA should be making all the time.

Rumours are that exclusives are back this gen and that MS are behind on development with several next gen projects cancelled. So apparently they may have been buying up exclusives. COD Ghosts is rumoured as a next gen exclusive.

It's a beat-em-up essentially but set in a GTA-like open world (mostly).  You pick up and use melee weapons like bottles, baseball bats, bicycles ... whatever you find.  I think some enemies have fire-arms but there is no gunplay as such.  You also level up and upgrade your stats like an RPG but getting good at combat is much more important than worrying about stats.  You are attacked by random guys in the streets like random RPG battles which are normally very easy to just button-mash your way through while you get to the fights which progress the narrative

Technically you can also pick up guns and shoot people. And I still maintain it has the structure of a short JRPG, but no one agrees with me. So basically what Bugsy says, except there's also a lot of walking around Tokyo (playing mini-games and doing side quests or just drinking in bars) and the combat is simple, but done extremely well so that it's very enjoyable.

... and you get to groom and pimp the ladies in the hostess bars ... like a boss!

I played the first two on PS2.  I have 3 and 4 but I have yet to play them.  I didn't buy Dead Souls because it's supposed to be rubbish (only foolz liked it and he is biased).  No word on whether 5 is being translated but we live in hope.

Foolz I need a summary of yakuza 1. I want to start yakuza 2 and don't remember much. Needs to be detailed, I want to know characters and what they did.
