Did anybody here know that SYSTEM SHOCK 2 has been put on Steam for $6.99?!?!?!

I have been wanting to play this game FOREVER...but it was never on Steam or anything!!! THIS IS THE ORIGIN OF BIOSHOCK! Some people claim its better. It came out in 1999 but the production values look good enough to be an Xbox 1 game. I am downloading NAO!!! May be my next game I play...this is great.

I bought it a couple of days ago and im about four hours into it. This game is incredible Happy

What did you not like of the combat? I'm not expecting incredible combat...it came out in 1999. The top FPS's at that time were like Half-life, Goldeneye and Turok 2. But this game is more like Deus Ex I think....deeper in RPG areas.

And they all have combat that is light years better than this game. The main reason being that SS2 actually uses hidden dice rolls to determine your actions. So if you shoot a gun right a things head it doesnt mean you did anything.

I know that's what I was saying, such an epic dissappointment. Did you hear the new Sabbath song though? It is tiiiight.

SS2 is a lot like old school DS, except with awesome horror atmosphere. This game has ps1 levels graphics and has scared the shit out of me a few times now. It is a lot of fun to play too.

No read my edit. Its all governed by dice rolls. You can aim right at a head and it does nothing. Not to mention everything breaks on you after like 3 shots. So you end up with the wrench and you SLLLLOOOWWWLLY smack enemies with it over and over and over. The most bland, repetitive, slow, piece of garbage combat system I have ever experienced in a first person game. (I wont call it a FPS cause its not)

Assasins Creed 3 gave me 4 massive loads yesterday.

Yeah I said it. I wanted to go from the Frontier to New York using fast travel. In other games that means point to somewhere on a map and endure 1 loading sequence. Instead the first loading sequence put me at the border of the frontier, then I had to walk an inch to get the next area to load. 2nd loading sequence done and I had to fast travel again, it put me at another frontier. Then I had to do a 4th loading sequence to actually get to New York. What kind of monkey shit is this?

"We have no games in development for the Wii U currently," company spokesperson Jeff Brown told Kotaku yesterday. He did not rule out the chances of EA developing for the Wii U again. EA publishes many of gaming's biggest franchises, including Madden, The Sims, andBattlefield.

Well that about confirms it, EA is done with Wii U. Dreamcast was the last console without EA support. Its going to be a bad hit, not leathal but still bad.

Just as I said in the Not on Wii U thread. That's fine, if EA don't want to support it I will just buy other companies games. Looks like Ubisoft and Warner Bros just got more business.

It looks like that Origin kerfuffle was true, EA wanted Wii U to use Origin and thus freeze out other developers - Nintendo said no and now EA are blacklisting them.

edgecrusher said:

Wii U. Its fine...people are nuts.

Yeah I know, what is happening? Some guys in GAF said that switching your U to 720p solves any problems as it does in Batman. I have found that regardless of what TV you are using, 1080p or whatever the games look better with the system set to 720p anyway.

How much do you guys think Wii U sales will jump once say Super Mario Universe & Wind Waker HD hit?

It still needs a price cut. If they offer a Wii U SKU for $200 around the time the Wind Waker remake hits they will see huge sales. The price cut must come with it though.

In the UK we do our own price cuts, the U retail price has been savaged here, you can get the basic model for £10 more than a new PS3/360. I think the rise will be pretty big but with all the negative nancys about the cloud of pervading lingering BS will persist. Nintendo have pretty much had to bear the full weight of the 3DS on their shoulders with their own software even though it has consistently sold more than DS for it's entire lifespan so far. I don't see U being any different. The problem is that publishers have been so short sighted 2 years ago that we are not seeing software now. And when and IF U picks up sales the software won't be ready for the market because everyone has pulled back.

robio said:

Yeah I agree. I had no problems with the RE: Revelations demo at all. If anything I'm just mad that it wasn't longer. That was a pretty short demo. Shorter than the one that originally came out for the 3DS. At any rate it was fun. If I had the money I'd be picking it up at launch. I'll still grab it at some point though.

At the start you can move in the opposite direction and backtrack to the outside of the ship. It's empty on normal difficulty but populated in infernal mode.

aspro said:

In real numbers it will be a blip though. SMU will sell close to one-to-one for existing owners but it's never had the broad appeal of the 2D Marios.

Galaxy sold 10.8 million so if there are 3.5 million Wii U owners logically you would expect at least doubling the userbase - especially when you consider that the two highest rated games of all time were Galaxy 1 and 2.

Dvader said:

So how long are we going to shrug off the Wii U's abysmal sales? You have this and EA pulling all support and I still feel like Nintendo can pull of a GC sales level system. Am i crazy? Just hopeful? I just cannot imagine a console with beautiful new Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash, Metroid games not selling well.

I haven't shrugged, just been patient, a months of north american sales should be balanced with yearly worldwide sales and really we should be patient till better games hit. I still remember the year that Wii sales were tracking low and the system was losing momentum. Then over the winter period it sold more than the rest of the year combined and came out on top of the years sales charts. Nintendo sales in general always spike at Christmas, as do everyone else but the bulk of their business last gen happened near Christmas.

I have no fears for U or Nintendo, I suspect 3rd party support will be shit but that is hardly anything new if you owned a Wii and saw 90% of multiplats not hit the system. It just looks worse now because the system is more powerful and can handle ports. It's basically the whole BS of developers using the Wii's power as an excuse now it's back to the same old demographics, 3rd parties don't sell jargon. The industry wants Nintendo to fail on some level otherwise they would support it - especially after the insane sales of Wii and DS last gen. What's more interesting is that Nintendo can make more profit on 18 million GCs (EDIT- plus a succesful handheld) than Sony could make on over 100 million PS2s. Nintendo will be fine regardless of NPD.

Crappy versions of NFS, Family Game Night, FIFA and Madden, Rock Band 3, EA Sports Active, My Sims, NBA Jam, Littlelest Pet shop friends, Spore Hero, Grand Slam Tennis, Celebrity Sports showdown, SSX Blur port.

Basically the only good games they did on Wii were:

  • Dead Space Extraction which was in itself inherently, limited for the casual audience - nice one EA.
  • Boom Blox - great game
  • Boom Blox Bash Party - too similar but decent - nobody wanted it

So you had an on rails game and two niche puzzler's.

Now look at the entirety of EA's Wii U lineup

  • Mass Effect 3
  • Madden NFL 13
  • NFS Most Wanted
  • NHL 13
  • FIFA 13

They've already done better, even if they stop making games now.

What COULD hurt Nintendo is if EA is just one of many publishers that decide not to make games for them. Then they will be forced to try to do some kind of Nintendo 64-like strategy of pumping out a library of incredible 1st and 2nd party games to make up for it.

This is the big problem and what seems to be happening anyway. It seems developers and publishers frozen out from Wii's success are wary, or have a chip on their shoulder about supporting U. Or they've scaled up for PC/PS3/360 and are unwilling to expand for a fourth sku, Dave Cox and Naughty Dog basically said this, "not enough bandwidth, not enough staff, not enough office space."

What blows my mind more is that I posted about EA's Blacklisting and Frostbite support in the Not on Wii U thread and no one commented there, except Bugs.

Less than two years after vowing to deliver on an "unprecedented partnership" with Nintendo, gaming giant EA is quiet on the Wii U front.

"We have no games in development for the Wii U currently," company spokesperson Jeff Brown told Kotaku yesterday. He did not rule out the chances of EA developing for the Wii U again. EA publishes many of gaming's biggest franchises, including Madden, The Sims, and Battlefield.

In June 2011, at the biggest gaming event of the year—E3—Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata closed his presentation of his company's biggest games and then-forthcoming Wii U console by welcoming then-CEO of EA John Riccitiello to the stage. "What Nintendo's new console delivers speaks directly to the players of EA Sports and EA Games. Nintendo's new console will produce brilliant high-definition graphics and new gameplay opportunities. We look forward to seeing great EA content on this new platform." Riccitiello was also enthused about Nintendo's embrace of online gaming.

EA delivered for Wii U early, releasing Wii U versions of Mass Effect 3, Need For Speed Most Wanted, Madden and FIFA for the new console. Each of those games had been released months earlier on rival Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. While they ran well, they were, ultimately, late ports. EA's biggest console game of early 2013, Dead Space 3, skipped the Wii U.

Brown told Kotaku that that early run of EA games on Wii U represented EA delivering on its E3 2011 partnership.

And they all have combat that is light years better than this game. The main reason being that SS2 actually uses hidden dice rolls to determine your actions. So if you shoot a gun right a things head it doesnt mean you did anything.

Lots of older games use systems like that. That doesn't bother me. As long as the atmosphere, story, and everythig else is top notch.

Wii U. Its fine...people are nuts.

Yeah I know, what is happening? Some guys in GAF said that switching your U to 720p solves any problems as it does in Batman. I have found that regardless of what TV you are using, 1080p or whatever the games look better with the system set to 720p anyway.

Really? 720p? I will have to try that. I have it set to 1080p but it seems fine to me.

  • On Wii U sales....yeah its selling crappy but the industry in general seems to be slowing down right now. I think people are taking a wait and see approach to EVERYTHING right now, with 3 new games consoles by years end that are only going to be worth it with exclusive software....not graphics or netflix support. I would be sur[rised if Wii U is the only new console that struggles.
  • That guy talking about Last Of Us....I agree with his issues, but this is more a modern gaming problem on the whole, than just a Last Of Us problem. Every goddamn game these days has annoying set pieces that would have been better off as an unplayable cutscene IMHO.
  • Rainbow Six getting cancelled.....WHAT?! Since when do Ubisoft have trouble making a new R6? Strange...
  • On the Not on Wii U thread....I usually don't look at that thread GG cuz it just pisses me off. lmao

I'll laugh my ass off if the other consoles struggle too, but it doesn't matter, 3rd parties will support them regardless like how PS3 got the benefit of the doubt in it's early life. Everyone is contracting at the moment, lumping all their eggs into one basket. It's going to be monumental when someone sinks too much money into a game that fails.

On the 720p thing, that is the native resolution of pretty much all Wii U games so far, when you run your U in 1080p it's just upscaling it. Your TV upscales the picture from 720p anyway and usually does it better. Running the system in 720p also means it's not going to use resources for the upscale. Some people have found that with Batman AC for instance at 1080p it has performance problems, in 720p, no problems. What I found, purely form a jaggies perspective, in NFS and AC3 720p gives you minor improvements, less aliasing.

EA: We love Wii Uhttp://blogs.reuters.com/mediafile/2011/10/06/ea-we-love-wii-u/

End of 2011

Reuters said:

Peter Moore, the video game industry veteran who was promoted to be Electronic Arts’ chief operating officer in August, told Reuters this week that everything appears to be on track with the Wii U, at least from his perspective working for a publisher making games for it.

“There are no indications that there’s anything that feels like it’s off target,” Moore said. Nintendo’s stock has taken a beating in recent months and its share price is approaching its low for the year.

Moore said he will be visiting Nintendo’s hometown of Kyoto next week to check on how the console is shaping up.

“From our perspective right now, specs are a big deal,” he said, adding that during his trip, he will looking to find out more about the gadget’s graphic and computer processing units, its price and when it might be shipped.

Moore, who has experience launching consoles from his days at Microsoft, says Nintendo was smart to incorporate a tablet into the console with the Wii U.

“No one thinks its going to replace an iPad 2 but it is playing into what a consumer feels comfortable with,” Moore said.

In the past, publishers have backed away from dedicating too much content to Nintendo platforms, since the Japanese company tended to use its consoles to push its own software titles. But make no mistake, EA is on board with the Wii U, Moore said.

“Our teams are working on it around the world. Our key franchises will be there. We’ve made that commitment to Nintendo.”

This is looking a bit familiar...

1) - Nintendo announces new system. [check]

2) - 3rd party not very enthusiastic, but test out a few sloppy ports/games. [check]

3) - Nintendo release schedule lacking, looks like system is in danger of flopping. [check]

4) - 3rd party back off even more, or pull out completely. [check]

5) - Nintendo initiates panic-mode, software volume improving.

6) - Sales of Nintendo system increase.

7) - Some 3rd parties scrambles to get stuff on the system.

Cool - 3rd party games don't utilize Nintendo hardware well due to lack of prior investment.

9) - Nintendo games utilize hardware well, stand out, and flourish.

10)- 3rd party complain that N-fans only buying Nintendo games.

Games / peripherals buyer for HMV stores.

It's been out for weeks if not months...

I got it on gog a couple of weeks ago for about that.
