Isn't it a little early to say 3rd party is dying out quickly? Honestly, do you really care if more sub-par quicky ports aren't on the way? I'm looking at what is listed for Q1 and Q2 of next year and it looks pretty strong, especially when you have Pikmin 3 and Wario to back it all up. There's Rayman, Aliens, Need for Speed, Injustice, Monster Hunter 3, Bit.Trip Runner 2, and a few others. I mean that's a pretty strong line-up in my mind. Good exclusive 3rd party games, and a few ports that hopefully will have a little more functionality since they're not being rushed out for a launch window release.  I can appreciate not wanting non-gaming utilities, but I can't figure out why you'd be upset at the titles that are coming out or expecting more.  Sure it's not what quite what an established console would have, but as far as the first few months of a launch system that seems to be on par at the very least if not very good.

Great post, I agree.

Launch periods are like this. U has had a great launch, look back on PS3 and 360's launch games and functionality.

I am not saying this is a disrespectful, or hurtful way:

What you just said shows, naivety about the whole process of getting support. You are comparing systems in vastly different periods in their lifecycles and making some poor assumptions too. Yes, you are absolutely right in that there is less third party support than there is for 360 and PS3, no you are not looking objectively at the reasons why. As a gamer who reads internet news and forums, you should not be suprised by all this at all. And you are making unreasonable expectations for a system which just launched 20 days ago here and a week and a half before that in the U.S.

Some Trine 2 Goblin Menace pics.

I shrunk this down most are full screen higher quality pics.

Looks seriously great on U even better than the main game, especially when the camera pans in.

There is this part once you beat a Goblin siege tower when the camera sweeps directly into an in game cutscene in the environment. Really impressed me, although a couple of character models could use improvement.

These pics show it but the pic quality isn't great.

Wii U graphics would need to be scaled back on Xbox 360 and PS3

http://www.videogamer.com/wiiu/trine_2/news/wii_u_graphics_would_need_to_be_scaled_back_on_xbox_360_and_ps3.html

Trine 2 pushes the Wii U beyond what's possible on current consoles.

The Wii U is capable of displaying Trine 2 expansion Goblin Menace with the graphics as intended, something developer Frozenbyte believes isn't possible on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Speaking of Goblin Menace, included as part of Trine 2: Director's Cut on Wii U, sales and marketing manager Mikael Haveri told NintendoLife: "Basically that does require... well, not huge amounts more graphics processing power, but still considerable. If we would publish that on the other consoles, then I believe that there would be some small downscaling of what it is right now."

Mikael Haveri also explained how quick and easy it was to get Trine 2 up and running in Wii U.

"I think we didn't start really until sometime early in the year still, but the fact was that we had a lot of things going on. Then when we got over the old things, we started with the Wii U and then in two days we had it running," he explained. "We had it running really fast. So it was more about knowing your own tech and then having that 'eureka!' moment of making it work on this new hardware."

Set to launch alongside Wii U on November 30, Trine 2: Director's Cut features the acclaimed original game with numerous enhancements and gameplay polish, the Goblin Menace expansion, plus a new game mode called "Magic Mayhem" designed exclusively for Wii U.

The Goblin Menace adds 6 new levels, 6 new skills, and a great display of how good graphics can look on the Wii U. From a sprawling desert to snowy peaks and everything in between, the Goblin Menace levels really make the game shine. This pack adds roughly 3-5 hours worth of content on top of the main game, as well as new enemies and puzzles to solve. In all, it is a welcome addition to Trine 2 and it is something that Wii U owners will enjoy until the end.

Finally, The Dwarven Caverns is a level that was designed exclusively for the Wii U, and it presents you with some very hard puzzles in the conext of a short side journey.

Some info from GAF.

Unreal Engine 3:

Only for your info, UE3 is no longer developed/updated for consoles since July (it's still in development for pc or phones, but I think it won't be too much at all). The July build is the latest UE3 build for consoles. So the development for wii U (or other current consoles) is the one in this build, it won't be improved. At least officially by Epic, you always can try to update/integrate the changes/improvements by yourself.

So they aren't even going to work on it for Wii U to take advantage or adapt to it's unique architecture it seems. So either Epic don't give a shit, or they are going to do a scaled version of UE4 for it.

Also, UE3 is not supported at all for Orbis and Durango.

Even comparing it to it's own 3rd party support at launch  is what I'm saying, I think you missed that  in your rush to protect Nintendo. Look at the decent 3rd  party at launch, then compare it the first 6 months of 2013 it just completely drops off the off the face of the earth. This not a new  console thing, this is a Nintendo thing  thats my point. They think it's good enough to get those titles at launch,  then just let 3rd  party die. LOOK  at all the articles about this if you read as much as you say  do and are not seeing these your selective reading skills are very good indeed.  Nintendo has chosen this, it's not lack of 3rd parties it's Nintendo's  lack of securing them. END.

I love video games.  I had less than 4 hours sleep last night and I as I kind of woke up this morning my first thought was, "I can probably get an hour of Yakuza in before 5".

Yakuza Dead Souls is a failure. It fails as a third person shooter, but worse than that, it fails as a Yakuza game.

I am in the final chapters of the game where franchise lead man, Kaz Kiryu is introduced.  He has returned to Kamarocho, the location that all the other games center on, to save his kidnapped female ward Princess Peach, Haruka.

They show the cheesiest cutscene in the entire game to introduce him, low-angle tracking shot, jaunting into town old-west style.  A crowd turns, and collectively gasps, "Is that...?"  They split apart to form a passage, two trucks barrel down the street toward the barricade and destroy it (one on each side of him).  A military guard goes to stop him, Kaz grabs his arm robot style and says in his best Eastwood imitation, "Not today".

Guh.  Then, after a game focused on guns you get to brawl, just as you would in the normal Yakuza games.  Awesome, this is what I expected, this is Kaz Kiryu after all.  Except unlike the other Yakuza games the fighting is extremely limited.  And fist fights with zombies is like punching walls of oatmeal.  In the opening fights they don't even make you clear the areas, you just have to knock out one or two enemies before they give you the victory screen.

Then you are saved by a military guy... wah? what's this?... who is actually a woman. Of course.  Who when she takes off her helmet she shakes her head so her lusterous hair can underscore the fact that, SHE'S A WOMAN?  WITH A GUN?  What's next female car drivers? Lady singers?

So yeah. game is wrapping up, and Kaz does get guns.

It is important to note that this was not directed by Nagoshi, the genius behind the other Yakuza games, Monkey Ball and Binary Domain.  This was handled by the art guy of the other Yakuza games.

EDIT: Also, going to the video game store today... Happy How many treasures can one cavern hold?

I'm screwing around with the Nintendo TVii thing. Got to admit it's pretty cool. It's really better for those people who have Hulu that can get synched up with their TV though. Still I can see this being good. It allows you to find shows you like a lot easier and actually get some use out of having a cable package with 300+ channels. It's found a way to make us even lazier. Now channel surfing is easier than ever!!!

If nothing else, it found an episode of Married With Children that I like and wouldn't have found otherwise. Hell I didn't even know I got this TV station.

Itoi: Mother related announcement soon

If it's an announcement of a Mother 3 remake I'll put down my money for a preorder now. Granted the chances of that ever happening in America are only slightly better than my Star Tropics predictions coming true.

Dragon Quest VII 3DS screenshots

I find this amusing. I immediately recognized the screenshots that they're showing off in this preview, and they are from what I consider the absolute worst part of the game.... well maybe next the first hour of the game where you practically do nothing at all. But it was the part involving the architect and demon that stops time. Anyway it was a painfully grating portion of the game. Gahhhh why show that mess off and remind people of that?

Though I will admit that seeing Gabo riding a wolf on the overworld screen is kind of a neat idea.

Leo is on!

I just tried out Nintendo TVii, its like a really cool universal remote. Its easy to set up and navigate allowing you to see what shows are up coming. So say click The Office it will show you all the upcoming episodes on all the various channels plus the option to use Hulu. Netflix is not supported yet so, nor is DVR functions so its a really gutted service right now. Also you cant search all episodes of a show, you can only see whatever upcoming episodes are there. When you watch live TV you have the companion app which runs with it, so far I cant find any show except sports that support it.

I did try it with an NBA game and its pretty cool. It gives you live scoring and stats plus the ability to leave comments after every shot. It is not a live chat but a constantly updating message board kind of. None of this is unique, you can do all of it with a computer but if you want your remote to do more then switch channels this could be cool.  Like Robio said it makes things easier.

Is it worth using up that battery for a partial app? Do they force you to download it? Can I skip it? until it offers more of what I'm interested in I don't have Hulu.

No download for me. It just started working. No its not worth using up the battery, plus I dont watch much tv in my room, its mostly for gaming. Its there, its nice but I wont use it.

Its been almost a month and the E-shop has almost nothing new. WTF. By this time Wii had VC kicking.

yeah Vader I'm not impressed by the Eshop or the Software lineup for the first half of 2013 I mean I know there is Pikmin, Rayman, Monster Hunter3, Wonderful 101, Sega's Alien Col Marine. But where are all the big name 3rd party games. Thats not a bad line up I was just hoping for better support from the big boys.

My cable box is Tivo.  It has some cool things like I can see ahead the upcoming bulls games but I  can get that on my pc. Won't use it much unless it gets a lot better it's  certainly not changing the way I watch TV lol Reggie, did he really think he would fool anyone with slick words.

I think having a different creative push behind Dead Souls worked perfectly given the context. Let Nagoshi bring on the next stage of Yakuza, and someone else destroy it with their own take on proceedings.
