When I first started playing Bulletstorm, I thought it felt like a pretty generic by the numbers FPS. But damn, it gets so much better after a few hours once you get some of the better weapons and start getting upgrades. Now I'm having a blast with it...in fact I think I like it more than Gears Of War...the gameplay feels much more intense and in your face than Gears. Epic, maybe you should turn this one into a franchise?

It also surprises you with its beauty. It has kind of that destroyed beauty thing goin' on that Gears has, but this game is much more vibrant and colorful. I'm on Chapter 5 now, not sure how far that is. But yeah, awesome stuff. Probably an 8.7ish game up to this point, which is one of the higher ratings I've dished out this year.

First off I would like to apologize for this lengthy post as I have had such an itch to respond to that thread in which I can't. I will also say that while I don't have a firm political ideology I can say that I am very left wing, and I admit I'm no expert on Cuban history. So I apologize if I am not as rough as I should be and if I'm not please correct me.

I find it quite amusing that the same people defending Chavez in the Venezuala election thread are the same people glorifying Castro. It really shows just how far these people will go in supporting someone who represents their "vision". Lets take a step back to see just where Cuba was prior to this dickface taking power. It was ran by a puppet leader who ran a fierce dictatorship. I wouldn't say as bad as Castro but still pretty bad. He had some good things in mind such as turning Havanna into New Vegas, but most of it pretty bad as he refused to diversify and create new industries and companies to employ more Cubans as Cuba had a stunning unemployment rate and poverty for such economic growth. This is obvious the fewer companies you have the more likely they are to serve the master and their interests. Its really no surprise that Cuba went with the Marxist philosophy, as Cuba at that time pretty much was what Marx stated, a nation ran by the "borgeious" and their interests against the "proliferiate" (these terms are so fucking stupid, just say "rich" and "poor"). Castro was a direct response to this. No more than how then how the Taliban was a response to the secular Soviet influenced Afghanistan or how Iran became an Islamic Republic due to similiar reasons from the U.S. and U.K. Like all communist leaders Castro and his regime promised that he would give the people democracy, that they would control their workplaces, that Cuba would be theres. And like pretty much every other communist leader he was full of shit. He didn't redistribute the factories, he just took them for himself. Democracy? He was in power for pretty much half a century before giving power to his brother. You can argue about Castro all you want but at the end of the day he took one of the richest countries in the Western Hemisphere to one of the poorest during his reign. You can argue about the rich stomping the poor and how the poorest of poor are better under Castro than if Cuba would have went Capitalist *gasp*, but if 85% of the population is under MUCH worse conditions due to this, it doesn't help your arguement.

To be fair though Castro isn't as bad as the right and many Cuban Americans like to pretend. This is less so due to him doing some really good things to the country and more so just how over-exaggerated the guy is. Is Cuba a shitty place? Yes. But lets get some perspective here. The country is no and never has been North Korea mixed with hell. The United States current trades and even supports regimes that are notably worse than Cuba such as Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, and Tajikistan. Bill Maher explains this better than I ever could. Also while I have to admit that it is kind of funny to think that Cuba's economy would explode if the United States lifted the embargo (I mean other nations under a shit ton of embargos have managed in better conditions such as Iran even though things are starting to fall apart now), being on the no trade list with so much of the world definitely doesn't lead to economic prosperity. Also while Cuba was doing pretty well economically in the '50s you could say the same about many Latin American nations that turned to shit in one way or another. You also have to keep in mind that the nation does offer many social services to the nation and I recall that the UN ranks its healthcare system high, especially compared to other Latin American countries. That being said unless Cuba got so off track that it turned into like the rest of Central America (which would be one hell of a feat) I can't imagine any sane person thinking that Castro was good for the country. If his revolution failed it probably would have been replaced with one some years later that waved the banner of democracy more often that could very well have brought the Cuban people into the same quality of life as Chileans and Argentines enjoy. The only good thing I can say about Castro is that he wasn't as "bad" as some of the dictators in other Communist nations. Its really insane how far people will go with their ideologies. And its not like the left is alone on this. There is a notable part of the right wing that actually believe that Pinochet was good for Chile. Yes he raised the GDP substantially...at the cost of everyone else. Most of the nation was poorer under him than it was prior to anyone else, he killed a significant percentage of Chilieans (hundreds of thousands), and privitaized industries that should never have been privatized (education, social security). The reason Chile is doing so well is because since the 1990s,  after Pinochet crashed the market and had no choice but to step down, have been doing countless things to reverse his policies by playing FDR. Yet the same people in that thread shitting on Castro lovers jerkoff to Pinochet (Altered Beast is one, wouldn't be surprised if DuffySide is another). Its just sickening what people will accept in order to have their fantasy lands come true.
