Lets put it this way as well. The RE light gun WIi games, which are on rails are less linear than this SH. At least in those games you have choices of paths to take. Of course it has actual gameplay which is the biggest difference. I control the action, I have to be skilled enough to advance, I need to develop strategies on how to defeat enemies, I have to choose the right weapon loadout, I have manage my health and I need to be on the look out for all sorts of secrets which help unlock things. While that game has taken away my movement at least I as a player have a huge role to play. I don't feel that way at all about SH. My role is simply to follow and do exactly what is specifically asked of me at certain moments.
Just answered that question as well. I am so ahead of you.
It sounds like you played a completely different game to me Vader. Your opinion is on a completely different plane of existence to mine. Nothing wrong with that, but to me the game is ancient history so I'm not up for intense or detailed debate. However, the lightgun comparison is really f-ed up.
Are you going to tell me that this SH game gives the player more gameplay than a RE lightgun game. I played the exact same game I just came in with a different mentality. I play games to play them, I want to be involved, I dont want everything handed to me . A game where you are told press this button, ok now go through that door, now walk down this hallway now open that cabinet now open that door, is not much a game to me.
Ahead in avoiding the question department. Maybe you should work for Nintendo.
So are those game cinematic experiences or not?
Not in the same way that HR or this SH game are. The RE games are light gun games, a very specific defined genre. i dont know what HR and the like are exactly, I just like the sound of cinematic experience cause you watch a bunch of stuff that happens with little or minimal player interaction. Those games are far more passive, almost like a choose your own adventure novel, except with button presses. Call it whatever you want, they are not the same kind of game as MGS, Uncharted, or the old SH games.
So now they are adventure games?
Also a very specific defined genre!
That is fine. But the adventure games I remember playing had complex puzzles. Had items you had to carry around to solve puzzles across long distances and time. It had multiple locations you could visit freely. While they maybe adventure games, they are not very good adventure games.
And we reached a consensus. If you just said, Shattered Memories is a cool idea, but the puzzles are too easy, the chases are boring and the level design is too simple. I would have understood where you were coming from. But it is non-game or it is a cinematic experience, was really a vague criticism.
P.S. most adventure games did have complex puzzles, but they relied too much on trial and error instead of cold hard logic.
Yeah, I'm not expecting the GC one to exceed the first one, but I'll be happy if it's jsut a sequel-sequel, and so far it seems to be (same gameplay, better graphics).
Wait this can be beaten in three hours? Maybe I'll try it this week then.
This column takes a while to get to the point, and the headline is somewhat mis-leading, but essential reading I felt:

Hey, Aspro. When you have finished TTYD, can you finish my copy for me too? I'm somewhere in Chapter 6. Thanks!
I can't believe I've been working on that game for nearly 8 years now, lol.
^Will do. My recent discovery of Paper Mario makes a 3DS purchase more likely.

Anybody interested in some multiplayer gaming tonight?
Agreed. Now lets have a bro-hug.
I want to say I am not trying to shit on others opinions of the game, I am coming on strong cause I am pretty upset that this is all they attempted to do with the game. I can see this game being an enjoyable experience to some. I look at a game from the gameplay perspective usually so I tear down all the layers and look directly at what I, the player, is doing.
Don't rush your first go, about the only enjoyment I had from this game was from simply soaking in the atmosphere and being into the story.
Wow, what was her name again. I want to do some... research on her... yeah...
Underwater car scene? Trapped in car? Do something or die? I seem to remember a car scene (though perhaps this one involved fire) discussed on a podcast in which there was imminent death coming, but if you did nothing, nothing happened.
