I really hope this is one of the reasons they are showing off the console. I'm excited about the Wii U but the way it looked last year was bland.
It's especially weird because I think the Wii was a pretty sleek looking console.
Uggggggggggh. The Nintendo direct thing is at 11pm UK time.
Whoaaaa. Weird:
"The Press Room Podcast Episode #115 :
Posted on June 2nd, 2012
If you’re wondering why we’ve all of a sudden got a new podcast, Tom Towers, the resident australian on the site beat me in an arm wrestling contest and has hijacked the site for his own nefarious means; to promote the rather good Press Room Podcast, which we’ll be hosting on here every week alongside the regular Robocast. Although Tom isn’t in it this week, give it a listen! It is rather good.
Guest hosts Rob (Robio) Matterhorn, David (Dvader) and Shane (Aspro) fill in for robotgeek.co.uk’s Tom Towers to host the 115th episode of The Pressroom. Hands-on impressions of Minecraft (360), Game of Thrones (PS3), Witcher 2 (360), Dead Space 2 (PS3), Dead Rising 2: Off the Record (PS3), and L.A. Noire (PS3)."
I don't mind it looking like a longer wii but I think they should change it for product differentiation. Also I hope the hardware is more powerful and hence will need a bigger case for heat disipation.
It's trying to be a controller with a screen in it, not just a tablet. I think a wider controller will be much better for long term play. It might not look as sleek but it will be a lot better to use.
What is this? Fucking Captain Planet?
Gearbox heaps more praise on Wii U, very happy with the console's tech
“I love this platform. I’m very excited about it because it gives us a path to realise some things that are more future-looking than we could if we were only on the current generation. It’s up to Nintendo to talk about their specs and I must follow them. I’ve committed myself to honouring their confidentiality.” - Randy Pitchford
“It’s (Aliens: Colonial Mraines) going to look awesome! And it’s unbelievable how many things that exist in the Aliens’ franchise actually work for that controller. It’s been a real treat, quite frankly, because the controller and the features of the system enable us to do things we can’t do with the other consoles. We can always use more memory and rendering capability. I think that’s one of the most exciting things about the Wii U. Not only do you have the technology of what you can do gameplay wise but it will be one of the best looking versions of the game.” - Brian Cozzens
The following is from an anonymous dev on Wii U daily:
"Additionally, the source mentioned that porting current gen games to the Wii U isn’t as easy as originally thought, and that games that have been developed for the Xbox 360 are “much easier to port to Wii U than PS3 versions. A lot less headache involved because their architecture is similar. Technically, you can just recompile X360 to the Wii U and it’ll pretty much run, but PS3 to Wii U is much much trickier.” He said that the latest SDK hardware is final, only the software keeps updating.
“We’ve spent a lot of time creating our own tools for the X360 this generation, and we’ve already tweaked a lot of the tools to work on the Wii U. But if you code on the Wii U from ground up and have to use middleware, it’s probably gonna be tougher than doing an X360 game from ground up.”"
One note, if Nintendo are showing off the Wii U hardware tonight, that means they must have a fuckload of games to show off in the actual Tuesday conference. Considering they have had a year long NDA, there must be tons of stuff to show off.
It's E3 so it's time for the obligatory Nintendo crate picture.
Unreal Engine 4 Game Informer Details #1
Unreal Engine 4 has a 10 page article in the newest GI
Heres some tidbits:
•Epic talked with hardware manufacturers like Intel,AMD,Nvidia and qualcomm to workout a tech road map.
•the demo GI saw was running on a single Nvidia GeForce GTX 680
•New image based Lens Flare tech, occurs dynamically.
•UE4 capable of producing one million particles at once with no hit to game peformance.
•planning to release UE4 dev kit soon
•Epic wants "to empower game designers,to take charge of as much of the game production process as possible"
•"Next gen will be about alot of things besides just next-gen graphics performance"
•UE4 being designed for a decade that starts with the advent of next gen consoles
•entire creation process streamlined,Designers can edit and recompile source code without leaving the editor, take control of the game anytime they want.
•"new interface empowers designers to tweak basic programming without having to call over a programmer,Tech artists will be able to create complex assets and programmers can expose certain values for designers as needed to give them access to simple tweaks"
Crate photos are the best part of E3 IMO.
Finally! Someone online.
New Ice Climbers made by the Disaster Day of Crisis crew. More like Cliffhanger than the NES game
So the Paul Gale Network the guy who confirmed CV LOS 3DS put up some info then quickly took it down:
Oh shit...a Nintendo Escalade!
Not surprising....Nintendo builds their consoles more like Microsoft, to be more PC like...so naturally just like with Xbox/PC its going to be easier porting games from Xbox/PC then from PS3 to Xbox/PC/ and now, Wii U. People forget because the Wii was underpowered, but it still had a PC like architecture because it was based on Gamecube which was based on ATI and AMD tech, just like Xbox 360. Not sure if N64 had a PC like design as well, but since Gamecube at least Nintendo has gone that route.
Sony are the only assholes that have to design their consoles all difficult and un-PC like, which is why most people try to port TO the PS3, and not FROM.
Just saw this:
The A-Team has arrived:
I pity da fool.
Miyamoto's hands are grotesquely large.
Iwata needs to shave his head.
And with that I went offline.
On a non-E3 note, thanks to everyone who suggested Persona 3: FES. This is one of the best games I've ever played. I've put off playing it until I knew I had some real time to devote to it, and this is game is a like a dream come true. A demonic RPG dungeon crawler hybrid social sim???? How the hell did I never find out about this? It's like what Azure Dreams should have evolved into. Freaking brilliant.
I know, Penis!
So did you guys hear? Random people have been phoning gaming journos and saying “Do you know about Wii U? If not, you will.” In creepy voices.
People think it's viral marketing.
