What a disaster. Cant believe we hit a brick wall on graphics already. This gen might as well last 4 more years.
Some would say that a new console is about new features.
You see Wii and DS threw a curve ball and then the recession hit too. These other companies saw that you could re-purpose older tech and sell like gangbusters at larger profit margins. You know about Nintendo's withered technology theory by Gunpei Yokai of course. IF they do choose to have a new defining feature then the cost of that would subtract from the hardware specs unless they priced it higher which means lesser sales - or they take a huge loss by selling the unit at a loss. Sony got ass-raped on PS3 this gen, it released late and cost a bomb - I doubt they are going to be doing any boat pushing considering their 4 years without profit and lowest stock price in a generation.
Developers are shit scared about PS4 and Nextbox development costs, Durango devs say it costs twice as much as 360. When a game flops it's game over for the developer because they cannot afford for a mega budget game to not be a hit. You've seen devs wanting to stick with the current level of hardware anyway.
Yeah, no major tech jump, you're seeing incremental improvments or resolution improvements. Better animation, better lighting, better particle effects etc.
But not better as in OMG my eyes just blew up and trickled blood down my face - next gen!
The newer consoles might support above 1080p resolutions which would be completely pointless given how all the TVs are 1080p anyway. Keplar which can run UE4 costs $1000 just for the graphics card, how do you expect a $300 console to have these uber graphics when they have to pack in everything else too, plus a controller.
What if this partnership allows streaming of all PS3/PS4 games to the Vita. I would but a Vita right away.
Would that not just show that you don't need to pay to buy new hardware to play PS4 games?
If you can play them on PS3 then why not just keep your PS3 and use Gaikai?
If it was 3G and had a good battery life. That would be cool.
We'll see. I certainly hope Nintendo shows something that surprises me with it, but so far they haven't shown me anything to make me want it.
Some website is speculating that this deal means there will be no PS4... dun dun DUN.
I officially have no clue on what the future holds for this industry. It used to be kind of predictable now its all wide open with a ton of good and shitty ideas flying all over the place looking for something that sticks. I guess the buzz in gaming is streaming with Sony going into it and WIi U using it. Who the hell knows what MS will be doing?
^ I have no clue either, but the more I rumors read, the more uneasy I become.
Who said Wii U was streaming?
Personally, gaikai type stuff worries me. I prefer discs and consoles. Ownership of games etc, not just digital licences and shit.
Where would we be streaming these games from, and what is the point?
I started playing Diablo 3 this morning, and so far its definitely awesome, but in a predictable way. It doesn't try to do anything really new, which makes me wonder why it took them so long to make another one. But its great at what it is. The atmosphere, graphics, sound, menu system...its all Diablo perfected. I choose to play as the Monk, and it makes you feel like you are this martial arts badass. The pace is also excellent so far, constantly learning new abilities and picking up new shit.
Must play more!
You can have supercomputers do the rendering at some central complex then all you do is have a stream from the internet to your box and TV. But it can be laggy.
An internet server, and to kill off the used game market / reduce piracy.
Eurocom is making kinect games now?
Is this the fate of every developer that makes a Goldeneye game?
Thats right the Wii U controller isnt streaming in the same sense but its the same idea. Project video from something onto something else that isnt running the hardware.
In a perfect future the idea would be you never have to upgrade anything ever again. All the power pushing is done on the company end you just receieve the video stream. Every single game ever made available to you at the push of a button. That would never happen but that is the idea.
Ah, I thought you meant cloud. It's very different but I getcha.
Monthly fees?
What happens if the company goes bust? No games to own, no hardware to keep. What if you cloud saves are accidentely deleted?
What if teh internets goes down? I hate the idea.
Having unlimited access to a ton of games offsets that for me. If it goes down I never really owned anything so it is not like I lost it. Save files yeah, that would be an issue, maybe make a way to download them to your PC for transfer later on. The monthly fees would be less than what I pay yearly for new games and I get to play so much more. The reason I have such a big game collection is so that I can feel like I can play whatever I want when I want, I want all may games on hand for instant access. This will do all that for me.
I bet there are other reasons.
