Yeah at the time I thought Retro was in serious trouble and Nintendo might just shut them down. I still don't understand why they left, unless they just didn't want to work on Nintendo IP's anymore, or they were sick of the Wii.
I get the impression that they thought they could do better and came down to earth with a wallop.
Or EA just screwed them over.
Old magazine covers and ads
Oh sega...
^ That really shows in one ad how much Nintendo has changed their tune since the Wii, and why its funny that people kind of think of them as this company that never goes for raw power now. They used to ALWAYS go for power, and back in the day, that's what was great about them. They married power AND innovation in design and software to create great things....instead of acting like the power didn't matter or add anything worthwhile.
They seem to be going back to that at least a bit, which is why I'm much more excited about the new Nintendo console than I was for the Wii. I don't think its going to be called Wii, either.

How so when they're doing exactly the same thing they did with the Wii? Releasing a console with roughly the same power as the previous generation.
Its alot more of a step up than the Wii was over the Xbox. Some might say it wasn't a step up at all. And its showing in the types of games that have been announced for it already.
The original Xbox could do HD and it did it was better than Wii LOL
Based on what? We certainly haven't seen any evidence that it is yet apart from Nintendo's word...and they said exactly the same thing about the Wii!
Based on what?
Icwutudidthar.
But so far the (little) evidence points to that. Reveal showing current gen graphics while saying it's going to be an improvement. Sound familiar?
They showed real time tech demos at E3 last year and a couple of reputable sources, Develop and IGN have pegged the power as higher than we were expecting - not the 20% above PS3 that it was at E3 2011 but much more. Even the earlier E3 spec was more powerful than PS3 as THQ and EA confirmed. It was twice as powerful as 360 and now is expected to have 4-5 X the power in the final spec - but visually that wont mean the graphics will be 4-5X better. You should also note that the final games Nintendo makes have always looked better than the tech demos they have showed off, as Zelda and Smash Bros have shown.

For those that missed it last year, the Wii U Garden tech demo that you saw in the conference was only a tiny portion of the full thing.
This video shows off the other half with an eagle/hawk like bird. View it from 2 minutes to see the rest of the demo.
The tech demos didn't really impress me.
"It was twice as powerful as 360 and now is expected to have 4-5 X the power in the final spec."
That's more promising.
Now to step into baseless speculation, what will if the PS4/720are 10x-20x more powerful?
I actually think it has a better chance than the Wii simply because no one has bothered to take advantage of the advances in computer hardware unlike in previous generations, so the PS4/720 might not be much more powerful either and people would still be happy just because it has a HD sticker on it, and televisions have a low HD resolution anyway.
IGN have talked to developers working on Wii U and Nextbox software and they said that Nextbox was 20% more powerful than Wii U. I doubt Sony will leapfrog that considering their PS3 experience. They have learned their lessons I think.
Regardless of specs, it's a sure bet that Cryengine 3 will run pretty well on the system - the GDC videos looked very much like the Wii U Garden tech demo. Frostbite 2 has been seen running on it, better than it runs on 360/PS3.
It can do better graphics than the Zelda Wii U tech demo according to Epic. It will probably be able to run the Samaritan demo at 720p at 30 FPS - epic said that if you were making a next gen game you would probably use UE3 and aim for Samaritan level sizzle - describing Samaritan as UE 3.9.
And if recent rumours are true, Nintendo might be tweaking the wii u hardware to run UE4.
Either way, the graphics are good enough.
And the Zelda demo was awesome looking IMO. If it can do better, icing on the cake. Think that demo was done by Retro?
No^
LOL look at the RE Chronicles trailer, a few minutes in Capcom does a split screen HD to SD comparison and then have again covered the SD picture in vaseline.
The fuck?
