I have a boxed version for the 3DO of all things
SEGA dude saying what I said a couple days ago (about retail $60 game becoming rarer) : (Also I now remember that some of my prediction I must have heard from Cliff B (he says the day of AA is over -- I say it's going to PSN XBLA).
Speaking in an interview with IndustryGamers, Hayes said people are playing more games and the industry itself is growing, but in order for packaged goods to thrive, there needs to be “a lot of necessary pruning and good husbandry.”
“[This] means that the quality for the consumer in the end is actually going to be better, because people are going drill into what they know is going to be successful,” said Hayes. “I think everyone’s saying it’s becoming all digital and no packaged; I just can’t see that. I think both are going to coexist to a greater or lesser degree. I do like the comment I heard at GDC [made by Cliff Bleszinski], which is that the day of the double-A game is over.
“I think that that’s something that we would absolutely agree with. If you’re not going to be in there with a product to really compete then your chances of making a return on that are going to be really limited.”
Catherine almost made top ten: (7.8 user score on metacritic, 8.3 on gamespot. I was expecting users to be be much lower, as I assumed most of them had no idea what the game actually was.)
"According to the NPD, the game sold 78,000 units between its launch on July 26 and the end of the month. That puts Catherine 7,000 units away from Mortal Kombat, which was the tenth best selling game in July. "
So what the fuck were all these stories about:
"It would appear as if Atlus has another hit on its hands, as the publisher confirmed today that its sexually charged horror puzzle game Catherine has sold 200,000 units during its first week of availability in the US."
A while ago Capcom said they were letting some franchises rest and reviving some unexpected ones from the past. I --REALLY-- hope Firebrand's appearance in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Gargoyles Quest on the 3DS VC are signs of things to come!
How the hell does Catherine sell that much??? What the fuck? What crowd does that game appeal to? A game like that sells more than 3D Dot Game Heroes, Shadows of the Damned and a million other low selling great games. I am blown away.
Gargoyles quest is that awesome looking SNES game right?
Gargoyles Quest Timeline!
No. You're thinking of Demon's Crest, but hopefully we'll get there one day...
...or maybe even beyond!
Catherine is a FUCKING AWESOME game! It's accessible but hard as hell and the subject matter has never been done in any game before, ever! It is TOTALLY one of a kind and deserves it's attention and sales!
I dont care about the quality, its nice its selling. Its why is this game and not others of far more popular genres. It makes no sense to me. What did this game do that others didn't?
I want to play that demon's game.
Mature themes that aren't "mature" --JUST-- because it shows killing or bobbies. Seriously, if you ever have the time... If you plan on doing that game renting thing you usually do, try it, it's kinda hard to describe!
I played the demo. I was shocked it was a puzzle game. I dont care for weird block climbing puzzle games.
Yeah dont care for qbert
It's the stuff that happens between the puzzle sequences that is most mature. So far it's a group of guys discussing life, relationships, success and failure in careers, fidelity, getting ahead, etc...
The puzzle is a metaphor for the struggle to succeed, or reach the top...
Do you follow the crowd like a sheep or do you forge the path yourself?
Do you help your fellow man (sheep) or step on them on your way up?
It's really all very AWESOME stuff!
I love the fact that it polls you mid-level and you can see how your fellow, male gamers voted! The results often surprise!
