So where did this story come from? Why would Nintendo make such a comment? I mean, they are launching with games Street Fighter, RE, Pilot Wings etc... for the 3DS, they have a Zelda coming for the Wii, and I'm assuming (hoping like hell) they bring over a bunch of JRPG's for the Wii this year.
I mean, we "core" have been pretty satisfied with Nintendo's offerings over the last couple of years right?
So why even bring it up?
This story was very interesting to me. Because of the specificity of the story, and the fact that Game Informer is "buddy-buddy" with the industry I am thinking that it is either legit, or that Sony is leaking this as a "trial-balloon" to see what the reaction will be so they can deice whether to go ahead or not. Personally, I've been waiting for something like this for years, I am assuming only the relationship with the largest game retailer in the US (GameStop) has prevented the publishers from doing this already -- given that they make their money on the used sales market.
To add to the authenticity of this rumor, keep in mind that Game Informer is owned 100% by GameStop (so perhaps Sony ran it by them, and that is how this story got out).
