Conduit 2 Trailer on IGN. Bleh. Only when it focused on showing the locations there were some nice stuff but that lasted just a few seconds. Hope they focus on that, providing sweet locations and bosses. The rest of it just made me remember how bad Conduit felt. There's more to the gameplay than simply your controls.

CVG: What do you make of the 3DS? Has it affected your view of developing for Nintendo systems?

CY: I think the 3DS is an quite awesome piece of hardware. At E3, I got a demonstration from... it's probably better not to say, but quite a senior person at Nintendo. That demo showed me a very powerful piece of graphics hardware, as well as a very interesting user-experience. I think they have a very interesting platform on their hands. They have some problems here and there but they are aware and it's nothing that cannot be ironed out.

I think the price point they're targeting is very interesting. Everything looks like a winner on that platform. I actually wouldn't be surprised if there is some high-end gaming happening on that platform because of the raw power of the hardware.

CVG: Would you consider bringing Crysis to 3DS?

CY: Whether we would like to or not depends on the platform itself. My initial contact with it is just that we got to see the platform at E3, going forward it may be very well that we look into putting the Cry Engine on that platform. But again this is initially thought only - nothing has been decided. There is an opportunity with Nintendo 3DS and Crytek.

               Akira Yamaoka, music composer and former producer on Konami's Silent Hill series, made headlines back in February when he and freelance game-dev veteran Kazutoshi Iida jumped to Grasshopper Manufacture, the freewheeling indie developer behind titles like No More Heroes and Killer7. It'd seem that Grasshopper head Goichi Suda has struck again -- this week's issue of Famitsu announced that Yasuhiro Wada and Yoshiro Kimura, both formerly of Japanese publisher Marvelous Entertainment, are the latest new employees in Suda's outfit.
          

According to Famitsu, Wada -- best known as the creator and head producer of the Harvest Moon series -- will serve as Grasshopper's chief operating officer, helping the company maintain a smooth development and release framework. Kimura, whose most recent credit is producing Little King's Story on the Wii, will become chief creative officer.

"This move will help us produce games in a more stable manner," Suda told Famitsu We haven't released a single [original] title in the past year, which is something that caused a lot of regret in my mind. Having these two people join Grasshopper will make us a more sturdily-organized company, and it'll improve our development, technical, and release skills."

Wada and Kimura are the latest Japanese devs to suddenly leave their home companies after many years of service. In their particular case, the move was likely spurred on by Marvelous' current round of belt-tightening -- Little King's Story, while universally praised by reviewers, was not a major sales success, and the publisher has fallen back to relying on established brands like Harvest Moon for their 2010 Japan releases.

"Grasshopper's games are enjoyed by people around the world, but they aren't necessarily geared toward the overseas market," Wada commented. "They just happen to resonate with oveaseas audiences as well. I think that's because this company plays home to a great deal of different cultures that all come together to discover types of fun that everyone can share. It's not a matter of marketing toward individual countries; it's about finding the inner antenna that tells you what's fun and what isn't."

Suda didn't comment on exact titles Wada and Kimura might be working on, but hinted that the pair could help him lead the developer to new horizons. "We've been known for specializing in action games," he commented, "but I'm positive this will help drive us to explore other genres as well. One of my goals is to make a game for all ages, and I think we've got the foundation for that now."

I have to admit I'm very confused why all these creators are jumping over to Grasshopper.  I didn't think they were a wildly successful company themselves. It almost seems like they're jumping from a sinking ship to a very tiny life raft. They've made some great games, but I don't think I'd say any of them are great success stories.  Maybe some of their Japan only games have been bigger sellers than I realize.
