Goldeneye mo-cap
- 9.000 takes for 62 hours of animation, 1/3 ended up in the game
- Daniel Craig is face and voice for James Bond 007, while Ben Cooke (his usual stunt double) made the stunts work.
Kirsty Mitchell as Natalia Simonova, Kate Magowan as Xenia Onatopp, Elliot Cowan as Alec Trevelyan and Alec Newman as Valentin Zukovsky.
- Long casting process, lots of captures for facial gestures, high detail 3D scanning for every model but Craig, who was rendered and animated classic style with lots of reference pics.
- From million polys face models to hundreds low-poly versions for in-game capable models. About 35 markers put in actors' faces for animation
- MoCap for guns with a gun expert: they captured reloading and other little movements with real guns.
- They even captured a big truck they had nearby so they could imitate bouncing, braking, simulate cameras, etc. Used on Dam level.
- Special system for real-time preview: FPS camera capture + actor motion capture, real time integrated into in-game stages
Okay, now I don't know what to think. First IGN loves it, then VG and Eurogamer give it 5/10
Now this:
Lost in Shadow MSN review " A Shadow's Tale is an outside bet for Game of the Year"
What is it?
A brilliantly innovative platform adventure in which you play as the shadow of a young boy who's trying to return to his body.
What we like
Dark, sinister atmosphere. Superb pacing. Challenging, thoughtful levels. Unique gameplay mechanics. Genius premise. Spectacular audio visual design.
What we don't like
Death is harsh and forces you to replay levels from scratch. Occasionally jaggy visuals made us wish this was on HD platforms.
Judgement
A Shadow's Tale proves that Japanese game design is alive and well. By taking a simple, elegant idea, Hudson has created a platformer like no other, and is a candidate for Game of the Year.
Review
Every now and then, a game pops up out of nowhere and catches everyone off guard with its breathtaking quality and effortless craft and brilliance - A Shadow's Tale is one such rare gem. Arriving free of the usual accompanying hype, it comfortably holds its own alongside the very best games released all year on any system. It's a true cult classic in-waiting.
More at the link up top^
More:
Perhaps the most satisfying thing about A Shadow's Tale is how remarkably polished it feels in all areas, from the precise controls, to the challenging puzzles, to the tense combat. It feels determined to entertain at all times, with a bite-sized structure that never overwhelms, and keeps you engaged right the way through.
With its wonderfully original premise, refined playability and engrossing atmosphere, A Shadow's Tale is an outside bet for Game of the Year.
5 stars out of 5
So there is this PS3 bug in Castlevania LOS which corrupts save files and overwrites them. Konami says a download patch is coming. It's just left me with this annoying gnawing feeling, what if you don't have your console online. What are your options then?
Hurray for Bit.Trip Fate!!!
I'm sure it'll be absolutely and ridiculously difficult but a hell of a lot of fun all the same.
Very odd. Been a long time since I've seen a game getting reviews all over the pla ce lcece like this. I wonder if other sites that would normally ignore this game will pick up on the uneven scores and maybe take it upon themselves to review it.
Either way it's peaked my interest now.
Just read this about the A Shadow's Tale reviews:
"The funny thing is both the positive MSN and IGN UK reviews are done by recurring writers for Eurogamer. They even discuss that in the Eurogamer comment section. Maybe we can take consolation in A Shadow's Tale winning the hearts of 2/3 Eurogamer writers?"
In fact the MSN writer posted in the Eurogamer review comments section:

Namco celebrates miner rescue... with Mr. Driller
Hmmmmmmm Amalur looks purty. Hopefully there will be a good game behind it. Todd MacFarlane's name makes me cringe a little though. Once upon a time would have said he was a creative genius. Now I'd say he couldn't create gas after a heavy Mexican dinner.
Game industry motto: "Ship it now, fix it later. What? Your console isn't hooked up to online? GTFO, pirate!"
