I'd like to think it's because it's a better design! But this is Sony we're talking about...
Lots of juicy news today -- best day we have had for a while. And with that gents, a fond adieu as I retire for the evening.
i have a weakness for the settings of both games (50ies NYC and LA) so i'm hoping they are both very good. don't mind the short length. it's almost a plus to me at this point provided the quality is consistently high

Why is every instance of that super mario collection in black as a big story? It's that freaking Super Mario All Stars which everyone owned on the SNES that should be released on the VC for 800 points. It should have released on the gba but Nintendo wanted to milk everyone so released SMB 1, 2 and 3 as separate releases, and now even on VC. Why is the retail release of an old SNES game we all used to own anyway a top story?
The announcement pisses me off more than anything else. It's a rip.

Nintendo World Report (NWR): What differences are there between the Wii version and the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions? If they're very similar, what challenges arose when making a Wii version?
Thomas Wilson (TW): There are practically no differences between the Wii version and the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. Beenox is a parallel multiplatform development studio and we have always prided ourselves at providing an equivalent quality experience on all platforms. We mainly faced three challenges when developing the Wii version: controls, rendering, and memory. Delivering the same unique art style for each dimension on a platform that has different graphical requirements was probably our biggest challenge. I would say the end result is not strikingly different than on the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3.

"Because the console and its audience deserves a cutting edge shooter, because Eurocom and ATVI have something to prove -- that Nintendo’s machine is underestimated in terms of its ability to deliver serious, credible, mature experiences -- and because it feels so natural to bring GoldenEye home to Nintendo." - Julian Widdows, Executive Producer at Activision Blizzard UK

"It wasn't something we were really doing - we were trying to build our own IP, and film tie-ins meant a lot of ownership by the film company. But Nintendo was very keen." - Rare's Mark Betteridge
"Internally, while GoldenEye was being produced, there wasn't an awful lot of faith in the game around the company apart from the core members of that team. I saw the game at various stages during its development, and I think, about four months before release, I saw a build of it and I thought, 'Jesus Christ, it's a bit of a mess.' But then it all came together very close to the end." - Rare's George Andreas
Want to know the most amazing part of all this? Nintendo eventually sent a letter to RARE telling them to just cancel GoldenEye, after numerous delays had pushed the project far back. The thing is, the dev team was never told about that letter. If that information was told to the team, we would have never seen the game make it to retail!

"I said that comment hoping that the Japanese creators were going to wake up. However, there has been no change whatsoever to the situation since last year, so I'm still very pessimistic. I feel that many people in the industry are still living the glory of the '80s and '90s, so they don't admit that there is a problem to start with. However, looking at the domestic market, it's shrunk. Therefore it's really important that we realise that we're behind the Western market now, get humble and start learning what's going on. Otherwise the Japanese market is going to disappear completely, sadly. There are some publishers who are starting to buy up Western developers. However, unless they start working with them properly, rather than just commissioning a game and then putting their name on the final product, it's just not going to work." - Inafune

Hopefully that Mario collection isn't just the All-stars versions, because aside from being a bit disappointing if they're going to release updated versions to release OLD updated versions, said updated versions I found worse than the originals in the first place.

Well I caved and got Valkyria Chronicles II off PSN. Lovely game so far. Feels good to have a SEGA game that's actually good. I wanted the original but this will have to do. The story's silly but does have some pretty dark tones at times, like the first real non-training mission's intro where a bunch of rebels are shown killing people just cos of their race or something, and you're sent to defend the town. The game was very light hearted up to that point. I suppose this will be a recurring theme though, since the whole setting is a civil war based on racism.
Skip the first 25 seconds to see the beginning of the game. Intro, first battle, more intro stuff, etc, though the guy knows the game and is exploiting the ease of the first mission to finish it quick so it doesn't show normal play, he doesn't even use any troops other than the main dude. Later missions are obviously more involved.
Lol, I met characters from VC1, Alicia bakes and sells bread at the academy and is married to Gunther, yay?

EDGE mag Metroid Other M review
Other M dabbles in cinematic tricks and sensational set-pieces, but its strength is in the foundations: it builds an enveloping 3D world from straight lines and right angles, and ups the gears of its rewarding basics constantly. It offers an uncluttered slice of sci-fi action, a singular take on the thirdperson adventure, and a combat system of pared-down beauty. Team Ninja had good material to work with, but the studio’s own contribution is a fine complement indeed. [8]
"Earlier this week, Eurocom claimed that the game will blow away all other Wii first person shooters."
Is this really that hard to do? I mean its one of those things that's almost comical to say. The Wii doesn't HAVE any high-quality FPS games, so of course Goldeneye is going to blow them all away.
The real test is how the game compares to the other top caliber FPS's out there on ALL consoles, not just Wii.
