You guys are awesome. My character sucks, he seems to only be good at being shot at. You two are my Rambos.
I'm calling them bosses because they basically are that, challenging sequences between the more standard go from A to B objective gameplay, but it's not like it's just you and a dude or a vehicle having it out, it can be a tank with a support squad, which you can take on stealthily (which makes recruiting them and capturing the vehicle for your base easier) or all out action (you can still capture them as they're near dead etc but it's trickier and then they'll have to spend time in sick bay/repairs before being usable in your base), or it may be an AI controlled unit as explained before, all with fun AI behaviour and your own tools making it just feel great to defeat them, or it can be a huge open area where waves of troops are constantly coming in (with sniper rifles, rocket launcher, or whatever) and you have to beat them all, etc. But they all flow well with the story and setting they aren't just gamey.
The level design is very varied as well, thanks to the mission structure (and the way the story supports that) which has you go through very different areas rather than spend a lot of your time in one place, and your different gadgets you outfit yourself with before each mission make gameplay even more varied. It doesn't feel compromised due to the PSP at all (there's even an impression of dual analog controls as you use the face buttons to turn the camera, aim with L, fire with R, etc), there are multi-level indoor stuff, jungles, occupied urban areas, ruins, underground bases, the works. And you don't just go from A to B, you can capture soldiers, rescue POWs, find items, revisit them in a side mission to finish something Snake did with a different soldier, etc.
I can't compare to the whole of 4 as I don't have it but so far it feels like the best Metal Gear Solid yet, the story is not quite as good as the first, but perhaps less theatrical (though you can still listen to a ton of optional audio logs, some for the main story, or for random stuff like bird watching, lol) but the gameplay beats anything so far. Even though you can't drag people/bodies or move while hugging walls or while laying down, there are other additions to counter that and the level design, soldier AI, and everything else is made with these design choices in mind.
And stop quoting me I always edit my posts for the next hour or so and then I'm done with them

I have noticed. Sounds good. I will hopefully play sooner than later.
I may have just fought the boss named Peace Walker but that doesn't mean I'm done with the main story so don't think it only lasts that long or anything, I'm sure there are more surprises left, there were some good twists
Anyway, watch those two trailers I posted before, they show good and varied gameplay and stuff, yet the game delivers more than they hint. With all the gadgets etc it feels like some Western Splinter Cell game or something, but the game design, story, AI, interactions, etc remain decidedly Japanese, highly polished, and Metal Gear
If you get/borrow a PSP you should maybe try Portable Ops first. It's a pretty decent game, some of its gameplay ideas were further evolved with Peace Walker (even though I think Kojima wasn't involved in PO). But there's no way you'll be able to go back to playing that after the awesomeness that is Peace Walker, it's just about shit in comparison, a lot of it thanks to the controls, but I still enjoyed it when it was first out, and hey, it's more Big Boss.

I think I will go straight for PW. I watched all the cutscenes on youtube of PO, I'm ok with that.
So i continued the mission I left off. I decided to just let Steel and GG move their way into position to save my ass. First Steel and GG encountered an alien near a home and I think GG killed it. Then I started to move them toward the direction of the one alien that is left. I know where the alien is hiding I just cant see it so my character primes a grenade and I throw it in the general area where the shots are coming from. The grenade goes off but doesn't kill the alien. It does blow up its cover so during his turn I see it, it shoots me in the face, I take the hit like a man and counter fire and kill it. Mission over.
Seeing that I was shot in the face I was injured for two weeks. Only Lara Croft got promoted, dont know why. So in a few days we have another mission. New soldiers have yet to arrive, and I am still sidelined so you guys had to go without your leader. This was in the desert and it was rather easy. Steel and GG were taking out aliens from a distance. Lara was leading the way toward the UFO. I had Jade from BG&E get shot but keep on fighting until she died from her wounds later on. Iga remained useless, wandering the desert slowly with his big gun. I crowed the UFO door with almost the entire team and Lara goes in first, two aliens fire at her and miss, she fires and misses. From outside the UFO GG takes aim at one of the aliens, misses that one but hits the other one and kills it. Steel enters and kills the other. Now the whole team is in the UFO and there is one spot where the last alien could be hiding. GG goes to check it out but nothing is there, the alien is outside. Iga doesn't see it. So Steel steps out of the UFO spots it takes a shot and misses, now he is vulnerable. Kaz comes to the rescue and kills it. Mission over.
Next Brazil was invaded. I knew I was not ready for a city invasion mission but i decided to try it out anyway. The second we stepped out laser fire killed nearly everyone. It was a massacre. So I loaded up a previous save and let Brazil burn. By now I have new soldiers, so Yoda, Foolz, Homer and Jill Valentine join. It goes quiet for a while, I start a new base in the US and I call it the Ring of Fire.
Finally something happens, Baghdad is under attack. I still don't have alien guns ready and the tank I ordered did not arrive yet. But I will try it anyway. I save before I go of course just in case it is too hard. We arrive and we step out, no lasers killing everyone, yay. There is a fence near the ship so I line up the crew by the fence. GG, Steel and Jill go an opposite way. Kaz steps through the opening of the fence and sees one of those mini UFO things, it fires at him but misses. I turn and run back, now I know I need heavy weapons so I bring Iga foward cause he has the rocket launcher. On the next turn Iga fires a rocket, hits it but it does not destroy it, it fires and kills Iga. Kaz goes to pick up the rocket launcher from Iga's dead body. Homer has a big gun so he fires away and does some damage. Lara is off killing aliens in a nearby field. The GG team are gunning down aliens in the street.
Now on the alien turn the UFO thing fires at Kaz and knocks him unconscious. Aliens are trying to mind control me. I panic on my turn, Yoda is the medic so he needs to take care of Kaz and he does so. Homer and Foolz enter the home trying to search for the UFO. GG and Steel are on the outside fence on the other side of the home. I few turns go by, Yoda saved Kaz and then he had to calm me down cause I went beserk and shot at a fence. Lara was killed in the field. Foolz, Homer and Kaz move into position to take out the UFO. GG cant move cause the UFO is in the way. Then the UFO spots Steel and kills him. On the next turn Foolz shots missles at it but runs out of points. Homer panics. I finally get my stuff together and enter the home, Yoda follows. GG has a normal rifle , he needs to take out that UFO so he fires at it and takes it down with a pee shooter. Yay GG.
But then on the alien turn they take over Homer's mind, he murders a civilian, enters a room that has a window that so happens to have a view of GG is outside, Homer shoots a missle at GG and kills him! Now Foolz is trying to kill evil Homer. I am still panicking, Yoda is still trying to calm me down, he is trying to hold everything together. Kaz finds two more UFO things and Jill finds one elsewhere. Homer comes back to my control and he, Foolz and Kaz try to take down the UFOs but they kill Kaz and Foolz. Jill gets killed by the UFO near her. Yoda realizes I am a lost cause and goes to fight. Homer is killed soon after. I panic, Yoda is trying to save the day as the last sane member of the team, sadly he does little to no damage. Finally he panics as well, the aliens kill him. Which leaves me alone in a panic as they slowly come and kill me. We failed.
Wowsers! Alan Wake is great! I'm currently at the start of Episode 4. Played it for several hours straight, just couldn't put it down it's so compelling. Very nice looking game. The use of light to take down foe's defenses is really a cool feature. Great balance between exploration and combat. The game has absolutely fantastic atmosphere. I guess there's some weakspots in the writing but honestly it has me hooked right in and I'm not even really noticing it. Love how each episode ends with a cliffhanger and a song. It really feels like you're watching some kind of cool show where each show leaves you in anticipation of the next and the recapping of things that happened up to that point at the start of each episode only solidifies this further.

I really like it but...it's just Puzzle Quest. I wonder what it is but I'm not loving it like I thought I would. Maybe it's because the first one felt more inspired because it was totally brand new. Or maybe other puzzlers like Gyromancer and Might and Magic Clash of Heroes outmatched the Puzzle Quest formula. Get it? "Outmatched?" I know, stupid pun!
Also, it could be because Galactrix was such a big letdown. But I think it's Clash of Heroes that made me forget the Puzzle Quest formula which is probably why I don't feel that same inspiration while playing Puzzle Quest 2. Clash of Heroes and Gyromancer out-addicted the Puzzle Quest formula. I don't feel that same urge to keep playing while playing PQ2.
All in all, I'm still glad I got PQ2. But I can't help but to be more excited for the XBOX Live version of Clash of Hereos.

The PS2 version was pretty bad but I'm glad Sony didn't drop the ball with this one.
It was only $20 too so it was a great bargain!

Just on GAF, I found out that Square-Enix is coming out with a Monster Hunter type of game of their own. It's called Lord of Arcana and it looks pretty cool!
And then I saw this on GAF called The Last Ranker, which is from the same guys that made Breath of Fire and Fate Unlimited Code. It's published by Capcom.
There's no word on a US release but I'm sure it should come here. It's coming out in Japan on July 15!
Here are some screens!
Looks pretty awesome !
Please bring this over here Capcom!

Man I need to try this. I've got it on Steam thanks to a friend, but haven't had a chance to play...
Vader, I think this may be the only time I'll ever have a justified reason to post this (or this, if you can't see it):
I'm with you. Dead Space was really solid, but after a while it got really repetitive to the point where I felt I would get nothing out of the next 2 hrs that I didn't already get out of the previous 2.
Just like the real thing.
