An all-new Sonic game will be released by Sega for DS and Wii in 'late 2010', the publisher has announced.

Sonic Colours features both 3D and 2D elements and stars Dr. Eggman, who - and this won't surprise you - 'has hatched another plan for world domination'.

We're most impressed with the UK spelling of Colours.

The game takes place on the former Dr. Robotnik's 'amazing interstellar amusement park', which floats in space around Sonic's home planet. Dr. Eggman is harnessing the power of an alien race - the Wisps - which he's just abducted. As you do.

Sonic steams in to save the day, of course - and can himself use the power of the enslaved Wisps to help them escape.

Wisps each have a unique 'Colour Power' that Sonic is able to absorb.

The blue fella can then create new paths through the stages by drilling through the ground (Yellow Drill) for example, or speeding through the stage as a laser (Cyan Laser).

Stringing together the Wisp power ups creates a combo that increases Sonic's boost gauge. Exclusive Wisp power ups will be available for both Wii and the Nintendo DS versions.

"The vibrant alien world of Sonic Colours enables players to race at top speed through incredible looking planets, each with their own unique visual style." commented Gary Knight, SVP of Marketing, Sega.

"In addition to the classic Sonic game play style, the colourful new Wisp power ups offer a fresh new way of exploring these worlds and helps make Sonic faster than ever before."

Natal will cost around £100 when it launches this October, Edge is reporting.

The site's unnamed source - who previously broke Gears of War 3's announcement and release date - said that the motion sensing tech will retail for $149 in the US (£103, based on current exchange rates).

It will also be available with an Xbox 360 Arcade console for $299 (£207).

If correct, Natal will be more expensive than Sony's upcoming rival, Move, which will be bundled with a game for less than $100 upon launch later this year.

The site was also told that Microsoft's planning to release Natal on October 26, although this date could move by a few weeks either way.

"Microsoft expects to sell millions and millions of Natal units in its first year on the market so you can expect the software launch line-up to target non-traditional gamers," the source said.

"A major marketing campaign will also play a key role in attracting and educating the expanded audience about Xbox 360's controller-free revolution."

It definitely won't be called Natal either, as that's apparently just a working name.

Microsoft said it wouldn't comment on "rumour or speculation".

Maybe that Sonic game's gonna be like, third time is the charm? Secret Rings showed potential in my opinion. Black Knight apparently didn't realise that potential. I imagine this will use the same engine and stuff since that at least is actually quite good for the Wii. Or not. We'll see. At least we have alternatives for our platforming sessions, but it would still be nice to see Sonic make a Galaxy-like return to form (which I don't see coming with 4)

I dont see it coming ever at this rate. Unleashed was great (on the HD consoles) if they can only focus on those Sonic levels it would be alright. This is probably one of those "side" Sonic games, Secret Rings was good and I hear Black Knight sucks. Hopefully this is not on rails like Rings and it has some good ideas unlike Black Knight.
