Nope. Haven't tried it on 4:3. I'm using component cables though and it looks much better than just using the regular default adapter.

The game looks like a really good PS2 game. Still good but wish it was a little but crisper.

Try 4:3 ratio. Imagine a 4:3 screenshot which you take into photoshop and stretch to be larger than it is to make it wider i.e 16:9.

So GG, what did you think about Matt C. leaving IGN? Kind of felt like an end of an era to me. I always thought Matt was not just THE guy for Nintendo news, but also one of the few gaming journalists who seemed like a real dude...someone who I would hang out with if I knew him.

IGN will never be the same to me. I can't even take IGN Nintendo serious anymore.

Force Unleashed Could Have Been a Wookie "Superhero" Game LucasArts' Haden Blackman recalls an "over-the-top" game pitch, rejected by George Lucas himself.
712.jpg

Before eventually settling on the concept for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, the game's developers toyed with several other game ideas, including an "over-the-top" Wookie "superhero" game that was rejected by George Lucas himself.

In an interview published in the June 2010 issue of GamePro, LucasArts veterans Haden Blackman and Julio Torres recalled the time when, in early 2005, the team was tasked with creating an ambitious new Star Wars franchise that would be driven by a new videogame.

"At one point we were kicking around an idea where you were playing a Wookie," recalled Blackman, who said the design was inspired by Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.

"It was going to be a big open world, and you'd be running around, and you'd be able to grab the heads of AT-STs and throw them at stormtroopers," said Blackman. "It was a very over the top-style superhero game."

According to Blackman, the idea was rejected by George Lucas himself, who said that the new game franchise needed to focus on character interaction and dialog.

"He just looked at me and said, 'I just spent the last half hour talking to you about the importance of characters talking to each other, and you pitch me a game idea where the main character can't talk?" said Blackman

Okay, updates done. Alan Wake reviews all poured in at once. Seems to be a consensus that it has definite flaws, but still eeks out to a 9.0 by a nose.

I feel the same. A lot of journalists move about a lot. IGN Nintendo was Matt C, sort of a blogger/writer you could relate to and get to know over time. Like anyone he had some views which you would disagree with on some games, but he seemed funny and friendly and kept the good old rumourmill going.

I can't take IGN seriously either, Bozon left too. The other channels always seemed to over rate games too. Sad what's happened to sites like Gamespot and IGN which used to be THE sites to go too back in the day.

Rage looks absolutely phenomenal. Really looking forward to that game.

Excellent reviews for Alan Wake. I'll definitely pick that game up sometime soon.

Very interesting that Bungie's new game is an action RPG. Looking forward to seeing what they've done so far on that.

New details on Gears of War 3 sound fantastic. Dynamic arenas? Sweet! This game is going to rock so hard.

Eurogamer seems to have the lowest Alan Wake review.

Alan Wake is tired and derivative. Everything about it feels dated, from the linear level design to the red-green switch nonsense to the visual stylings (surely not even J Allard has attempted the hoodie-with-jacket combo since 2005). There are plenty of fancy cut-scenes, dramatic voiceovers and cinematic camera angles, but even when Alan Wake does a good job of pretending to be a film you just feel like you're watching a really bad film. That's particularly true when it comes to the ending - without spoiling anything, let's just say you're left thinking, "You mean I kick-started all those generators for that?"

All the same, there's a weekend's worth of fun here for action-adventure fans who aren't too bothered about innovative concepts and varied gameplay, and don't mind a lot of repetition. Alan Wake is an accessible, undemanding game with a neat combat mechanic and decent visuals. It's just not a very original game, it's certainly not an exceptional one, and it's a shame it wasn't ready a few years ago.

7/10

EDIT:

Jesus, I just read what I posted^

Didn't realise it was so negative.

Okay, updates done. Alan Wake reviews all poured in at once. Seems to be a consensus that it has definite flaws, but still eeks out to a 9.0 by a nose.

Yeah Bozon leaving was surprising just cuz he hasn't been there all that long. To be clear I should say I could NEVER take the other IGN channels serious, but IGN Nintendo was different. Not anymore. And yeah I thought the same thing about how IGN and Gamespot used to rule, and now they're almost like how EGM was before it died. Sad.

What blows my mind is that we're hearing about Bungie's next project and yet still don't have an ounce of info on the next Retro Studios game!!! WTF?!?!

Totally.

I think the days of trusting any one site for journalistic or critical excellence, is gone. It feels like pot luck, depending on the writers, which usually are random freelance or switch so fast, you can't get a handle on the personalities anymore.

Sucks that the fire flower is time limited again.

Pretty awesome.

I just watched the Rage developer interview. Shooting looks cool, not sure I want to do racing though.

Gamecentral still swaps out new content on the same static page so unless you read this today, it will be gone by tommorrow:

Sin And Punishment (Wii) review
Sin And Punishment: Successor Of The Skies
We recently admonished an Inbox reader for equating console with developer fanboyism.

Declaring yourself a fan of a chunk of mass-produced electronics is madness, but following a favourite creator of games makes perfect sense.

As such we are unashamed Treasure fanboys, although not so much that we can't admit their odd misstep. Thankfully this isn't one of them.

If you haven't already played Sin And Punishment on the Virtual Console we heartily recommend giving it a try.

The N64 import wasn't originally released in the UK but it's a cracking on-the-rails shooter in the mould of Space Harrier and Star Fox.

You won't need to have played it to understand the story though, which is pure gibberish in both games. No wonder given some of the things that happen.

We're actually surprised Treasure bothered to pretend there was a plot for this is clearly no interactive movie, but a purebred video game.

The fundamentals are very straightforward. No matter what is going on on-screen you only move in a 2D plane, using a jetpack or hoverboard to float around at will.

You aim and fire with the Wii remote cursor, just like a lightgun game.

The two (nightmare-inducingly ugly) playable characters have slightly different abilities, with Kachi the girl having an automatic lock-on system that can target multiple foes.

Male lead Isa has a more powerful charged shot and wields a sword.

Both are invulnerable while rolling, while one of the game's most important tricks involves batting projectiles back towards a target of your choice.

For a Treasure game that's a relatively small set of controls but despite their apparent simplicity the game is able to weave a game of dizzying variety.

Enemies range from zombie robots to evil parrots and what looks like a possessed hi-fi system.

It's the variety in set pieces that really impresses though as the game switches from 2D side-scrolling to car chases to overhead views and back.

End-of-level (and indeed beginning and middle) bosses are well up to Treasure's best standards and not just the expected enemy robots and mutants.

There are sword fights, a boss that tries to flatten you beneath Tetris blocks and one stand-out sequence where you're handcuffed to an enemy and have to fight bare-fisted.

Almost nothing is repeated and even less can be predicted.

This is a game where not one thing that happens makes the least bit of sense and everything is at the service of the gameplay and entertaining the player.

Even once you get over the spectacle the complex scoring system and online leaderboards ensure that one playthrough is never enough.

Although they often seem more at home in 2D this is Treasure's best work in 3D and one of the games of the year.

IN SHORT: Treasure are at the top of their game in this endlessly inventive master class in on-the-rails shooting.

PROS: Gloriously creative visuals, levels and bosses. Perfect controls. Good range of difficulty levels.

CONS: The co-op mode is a Super Mario Galaxy style fudge. If anything the levels are too long for a score attack.

SCORE: 9/10 Out: 7/5 (UK)

New details on Gears of War 3 sound fantastic. Dynamic arenas? Sweet! This game is going to rock so hard.

"Here's the best bit: Marcus and co will occasionally have to defend the Raven's Nest from attack to protect their tomato patch (no, that's not a dodgy translation) as food's a bit scarce in their version of Kevin Costner's Waterworld. "

Just watched the Alan Wake gametrailers review.

6 episodes long, each lasting 1 hr.

Combat kills a purchase. Looks like too much effort and too much like RE4 for me.

If it was combat free I would just soak up the locations and enjoy the horror and story more. I don't want to be dodging and weaving in and out of situations with multiple enemies and blasting them with shotguns.

1up Alan Wake review

If anything, Alan Wake reminds me of the first Uncharted. It is a great, but flawed work (hello ugly daylight, quirky animations, and a script that mocks the viewer even more than Lost or Twin Peaks) that lays the foundation for what could be an absolutely amazing follow-up. I just hope it doesn't take another five or six years.

B+

So Aspro, this means it's like Stranglehold? Nyaa
