Capcom's (in)famous Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2 producer, Jun Takeuchi doesn't plan to return to the survival horror series any time soon, he's said.

Speaking in an interview with Xbox World 360 magazine, Takeuchi admits he felt "extreme pressure" working in the shadow of acclaimed Resident Evil 4 creator, Shinji Mikami, who left the company in 2007.

"Yes, it's true we did feel extreme pressure - and Mikami-san's shadow - after Resi 4," he told the mag. "However, because we were creating the sequel to this huge franchise we wanted to make our fresh direction clear."

screenshot_231004_thumb300.jpg
He added: "Personally, I don't think I'm gonna deal with Resident Evil 6 at all - as far as the series is concerned I'm not planning to return until at least two more Olympics have passed!"

The news will comes as a mixed reaction to fans, as Resident Evil 5 was controversially received when it released last year.

Later in the interview Takeuchi said that he feels less pressure working on a relatively new IP like Lost Planet, but that requires "physical strength" to get right.

You mean he thinsk RE4 and RE5 were survival horror? Nyaa

So that Takeuchi guy won't work on RE6? Good! Grinning

Remember when we heard about RE5's development process and how they were screaming at each other and not getting along? It's probably because of Takeuchi. I remember an article saying that the Capcom employees had problems with him. Same thing probably happened during Lost Planet 2 which is why the game sucks and feels broken according to the reviews.

Or it's because Takeuchi doesn't know how to make a good action game? But the reviews loved the graphics. Looks like Capcom focused so much on the visuals that they forgot the most important thing: gameplay and controls!

So where is Takeuchi now?  And I if he had anything to do with RE5 being they way it is, then I too am glad he's banished from RE6.  Five was a huge let down for me.

I saw Iron Man 2. I liked the first a bit more. It's still great cause Robert Downey Jr. is fantastic.

^^ Yeah, that's basically what the reviews are saying. The first is better, the second one is okay, but worth watching because the acting especially Downey Jr. is great.

It's kind of Sherlock Holmes. The movie was meh but the acting was awesome.

I'll probably wait for the DVD or Blu-Ray, like I did with the first.

I think it was an inevitable consequence of going for realism. In a way the older consoles suited the art style more. When they dull the colours and start adding sweat and skin pores it changes that familiar RE look.

I would like RE to get back to hokey, cheesy OTT fun. Or find a way to put the frights back in. Make things really tense.

I am sure Capcom will look at the sales of RE5 and say "this is what people want" and just do RE5 again. Unless they get a ballsy new director. The main problem is that we live in an action junkie time, games with action sell, other stuff not so much. Old RE would not sell like it did before. The trick is to keep the action going while mixing old elements in. How do you pull it off without screwing up, I don't know.

I have the same feeling.

I'm looking forward to this. Lost and Damned hasn't showed me any kind of variety yet. How long is Lost and the Damned?

LOL Why is this concept so hard to grasp?

Because it's so small and elusive.

Like your tiny penis.

Cool -- Tin Tin game. (Story above).  Has that not been done before? Seems like a perfect match.  Or have their been games and just none of them made it out of Europe?

I think Montpellier team did King Kong in co-op with the film. And isn't Peter Jackson involved in this Tin Tin film in some capacity?

I saw Iron Man 2. I liked the first a bit more. It's still great cause Robert Downey Jr. is fantastic.

I hated Iron Man.

Played more Cel-Shaded Prince last night Hrm Turned off the tutorials. Game is still Hrm

Played more Arkham Asylum last night. Makes GTA 3rd person controls seem like a bad joke. Broke out onto the surface of the island, got some spray explosives. Had some fun.

Game is so seamlessly made and yet the individual elements are worse than how they are executed in games which focus on a single aspect.

It's strange because it's a game with almost zero flaws and yet somehow it doesn't excel enough for me to feel that it's one of the greats.

So do you guys think the Wii controller, or Nintendo's casual marketing & game creation (appealing to grannies & girls, snobby types, etc.) have had more to do with the Wii besting its cousin, the Gamecube, by 50 million systems?

Both. One enabled the other.

  • Lost & Damned wasn't terribly long. Can't remember exactly.
  • I told you Persia was boring. That game baffles me....when I first saw it I thought it would be amazing, but it just feels uninspired.
  • Batman is awesome. Easily one of my favorite games of last year. I was glued to it from start to finish, and many so called "great" games can't get me to do that anymore.

Played more Halo Reach and Bioshock 2.

Halo is basically another slight revision on the multi-player Halo formula. Halo is so fun to play that they can get away with not reinventing the wheel. Its definitely a step up from H3 though, don't get me wrong. Graphics are a big improvement, and playable levels are very well designed, and the new abilities and guns are all great fun. I think they've pretty much perfected Halo multi-player at this point. Bungie is walking away in a good spot...bravo.

Bioshock 2 continues to be really good, but I'm not too far in. Its basically just like the first game so far except you play as a Big Daddy. Speaking of which, one thing I don't get is why it seems like my Big Daddy is a major fucking pansy who can't even take as much damage as my regular ol' chap from Bio fucking 1?! I mean 3 bullets and my life bar is toast....not good when I have 5 Thuggish Splicers circle strafing me!!! But other than that, its a great time.

I agree to an extent. I still think though if they had just put the Wii out with a Classic controller pro, and no remote, with the same design and marketing it would have still sold well. That marketing was genius, as disgusting as it is.

I don't remember you telling me that about POP, but that must have been like 2 years ago LOL

It's killing the franchise for me like Double Agent killed Splinter Cell for me.

Halo Reach sounds cool, I think Bungie said that they are still not done with Halo so there may be more games.

If you play as a Big Daddy in Bioshock 2, does that mean you control more heavily and slowly?

Eh...slightly. You definitely feel heavier, but its not a huge difference. Almost feels like Samus in the Prime games.
