Story above about the ethics of Publisher-paid junkets.
Almost as played out as the "are games art" discussion is the "is games journalism, journalism?" discussion. But... they are all whores.
And if you want to hear a non-boring discussion of the "art/ games" debate download the latest podcast from theVGPress, it's actually a pretty good wrap-up... you could say the 'final word' on the topic (hopefully).
But, yeah so Capcom paid for all the journalists to go to Hawaii, where they stayed on Capcom's dime. Including Jeff "The Man Who Can't Be Bought" Gerstmann. Dan Hsu, when he was EGM editor, used to go on and on about ethics in gaming news and editorial and how he refused to accept a Samsung HDTV at GDC from Microsoft. But he never mentions the fact that MS gave EGM a bunch of XBoxes and how staff took them home and never returned them (on the proviso that if they were ever needed they would have to return them to the office).
Over at Game Informer (fully owned by GameStop) they make no secret that they socialize (usually booze it up) with industry players, developers, PR etc... They include a full page of them partying with the industry in each issue. At least they let you know they have no scruples.
Jeremy Parish has it right. He always corrects people when they call him a journalist. He say he is a games reviewer/ writer and not a journalist because in order to get early coverage of games he accepts junkets from publishers (therefore he is not a journalist). I used to be in a professional position where there were no ethical standards other than the ones that you came up with yourself and I never accepted so much as a paper-weight from a vendor lest they think I owed them something. This stuff influences normal people, makes it just a little bit harder to give harsh criticism of it.
So I guess I'd have no problem with these schlubs if they never used the J word and listed the free tchotkes and trips they get from publisher at the end of the story, no matter how small.
Ubisoft New approach to casualz.
How does this even qualify as a story? It says nothing. The dude is talking about release dates.
Not criticizing the poster of the story, more down on McVuk for link-bait.
I did not see this guys name in print until today. I had no idea that that was how he spelled Andomican Sue:

Awesome impressions and I'm glad we finally got rid of that annoying chump ASK.
They should have to declare any goodies or trips they get so we can all see who got what.
That's a shame. He was a chump, but he was allright compared to most gaming journos.
Matt Cassamassamyasshole says KID ICARUS IS COMING OUT FOR THE iPad!
On the bright side the video games journalist journalists debate is at least hilarious.
Bottom line is video game journalists are critics. Even if they didn't accept swag, what do they do except review games and regurgitate PR or leaks (that they themselves haven't even sourced) in the form of news?
Wait, that actaully kinda describes most journalism... :X
Anyway what makes it so hilarious is that their little self-righteous label is not one you'd want to be called justly; so some of them may just deserve it all the same.
I agree. A douchebag leave to join a company of douchebags. He'll fit in just fine.
...
Yeah, he was alright. When he wasn't being a douchebag and talking out of his arse.
From the Natal Story from today, "Of course, both Natal and Move are technically peripherals and historically peripherals haven't always sold gangbusters"
Isn't that really the bottom line with either of these projects? I mean, that really is what this all comes down to.
