One thing's for sure -- the focus has changed. Stores like Target and Best Buy have reportedly told game publishers not to even bother approaching them with collections of mini games, which they will no longer pick up.
"Third-party publishers are having a hard time determining who the Wii audience is," Kramer adds. "You can no longer say it is solely casual gamers or that only E-rated games own the space. For any sort of solid statement you want to make about the platform or the audience, there are enough opposite proofs to show that it is extremely scattered and chaotic."
Wow, that's awesome. Retailers telling publishers to get lost with minigame collections. They should have done that consistently starting a couple of years ago.
"Just because the majority of Wii consoles are bought by casual gamers doesn't mean all they want to play is Diner Dash or party games," notes Kramer. "It just means they want to be on a more affordable platform with a unique controller interface. They are looking for different experiences and we intend to give it to them."
How is it that one guy at Capcom talks some sort of sense whilst the french guy talks shite? This is like the UK sega guy who is awesome and the Greek Sega guy who is a chimp.
"The Wii console sold so many more units than anybody expected in 2007 and 2008 because it was cheap and because of its novel gameplay, which set expectations much, much greater than perhaps were warranted. Since then, the Wii has come back down to earth and is now merely outselling the other two consoles by 30 or 40 percent, not 300 percent. I hardly see that as a bubble deflation."
Pachter watch! Wut, he's not talking crap for once?
"Wii publishers need to concentrate on fewer games but games of higher quality. There is just too much shovelware around -- like the $15 games in the end-cap bargain bins at Target. Companies like Majesco just spin them out non-stop and there are tons of them. They aren't helping anybody keep their lights on."
Oh shit, he is talking sense. Someone please listen.
Indeed, a recent GameFly "new release" listing included 62 new titles for the PS3, 72 for the Xbox 360 -- and 145 for the Wii. Similarly, the current ESRB ratings list shows 696 titles for the PS3, 957 for the Xbox 360 -- and 1,415 for the Wii.
"How many of those [Wii games] do you think cost more than $5 million to develop? Probably five," asked Pachter.
Pachter you are indeed a wise sage. Third parties aren't putting anywhere near the level of serious money, resources, marketing or design teams towards these titles compared to other systems, what do they expect? To get lucky on the cheap? Where are the exclusive blockbuster type games?
Capcom's Kramer agrees with the "fewer but better" philosophy: "In 2010, you won't see as many Wii games from Capcom, but the ones we release will be much larger, event-size games. I also expect to see the market dominated more and more by Nintendo releases with fewer games from the major third parties, like EA, Activision, and Ubisoft."
Capcom event type games on Wii in 2010? Errrrrrrrrr, Monster Hunter 3. And.........? Don't say tatsukono you fuckers. And fewer Capcom games this year as oppossed to 09? What did Capcom release on Wii in 2009 in the west? Spyborgs and Darkside?
And duh, Nintendo has Zelda Wii, Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid other M in 2010, yeah they will dominate. Who else is making games of this quality and scale on Wii? Where are consumers going to spend their money?
Naked scene?
See, people really need to trust the market more. Basically the market follow the laws of natural selection. Shovelware does not sell, so it goes extinct. All hail Darwin.
Pics or it didn't happen. I want to see that ass. Lesbian scene isn't it?
These companies put out so much trash on wii, then one semi-decent game a year.
Meanwhile the other consoles get a steady stream of high quality titles, month after month.
What is this drop, in a sea of shite suppossed to do? Do publishers think that they are going to drop a magic bean in the Wii market, have it turn into a beanstalk leading to many golden eggs?
Someone quote that shit and get it onto an industry site for me.
Was the end of Bayonetta as good as this?
Speaking of ends.
GG did you actually finish LKS?
Haven't attempted last boss since last time, because there is no pre-boss save point I need to have a clear window of time in my schedule to get to him, then beat his minions, then beat him. You know what I mean.
What makes Shadow Dancer so much fun to play is the responsive controls. Collision detection is pixel-perfect so if you die at the hands of the arcade style one-hit mechanics you have no one to blame but yourself. The gameplay is arguably less deep than Revenge of Shinobi, but it works really well with the uncompromisingly tight level designs and on the whole this particular ninja adventure feels a little more boisterous and fun than the dark and brooding prequel.
If you enjoyed Shinobi III or Revenge of Shinobi – both of which have already released on the Virtual Console - then it’s likely that you will get a kick out of Shadow Dancer too. It’s not quite as difficult and lacks some of the original ideas and glorious set-pieces that made the two aforementioned games so appealing, but the “one-hit” deaths ensure that it’s a slightly tenser and often more exciting experience. Many Shinobi fans have argued that Shadow Dancer does not stand up to the quality of the other two Mega Drive entries, but in many ways it is a lot more fun due to the simpler arcade-like style of play. Regardless of what has been said in the past, you can take it from us that this title comes highly recommended to all ninja fans.
8/10
Used to love this game
Godamnit, if only VC games were cheaper I would have this and Super Star Wars by now.

Darksiders should be reviewed as its own game and IP. It's a great game in its own right.

The Wii finally gets a GREAT aviation game!
THIS LOOKS AWESOME!!!
I'm a HUGE aviator fan and this game looks great! It's from the same guys who made the Ace Combat series so you know it'll be good because these guys know how to do flight games!
Also, I prefer arcade over sims and this game is more arcadey with anime cinematic story telling. It's based on a novel in Japan and a anime movie based on the book.
And the best part...this game is only $29.99!
Anyway, here's the first IGN review, a 8.

Some screens:
Only bad thing, it's short only 5 hours even though there are 18 missions. But still, IGN says the core gameplay is great and will provide replay value!

A little that didn't strike me. Not enough for a quality assessment though.

uh oh:
Similarly, Japanese publisher Marvelous Entertainment focused heavily on Wii and PSP releases in 2009, but the company found a considerable difference in its success on the two platforms. Four out of its five PSP games in its first fiscal half were profitable while three of its four Wii games during the same period lost money.
Hmmm....a lot of third party developers have been struggling with the Wii while Nintendo's games are selling like hot cakes.
I think this year might be the last year we see good third party games coming out for the Wii, and than it'll be all downhill from there with more mini-games, casual stuff, and half-baked shovelware. Only Nintendo will be supporting the core gamers.
It's nothing new, but it's still sucks to hear.
