On the basis of hardware failures alone the 360 is DNF (Did Not Finish).
I would put XBLive in the top 5 console game innovations of all time but the 360 is not in the running for anything other than an anchor or speedbump.
The PS2 is way beyond its twilight years so it's okay to count it in. But the Wii, PS3, and 360...we're not even half way!

Yeah, while I would most definitely place the Atari 2600 at #1 myself, I figure it'll either be the PS2 or NES, with the PS2 as the most likely candidate.
I won't mind if they chose the PS2. It really is the best system of all-time, period. Like mentioned in the post above, it's the best selling of all-time, has the longest lifespan which is amazingly still going pretty strong, and without a doubt the greatest library of games ever.
And to be honest, I'd be pretty mad if they chose the Genesis. It's top 5 for sure but NOT #1.

I would not be upset if the PS2 got #1. It certainly has the strongest library of all time. I'd like to think that the Dreamcast would have cleaned it's clock had it been able to last as long.
The Atari 2600 had nothing to do with nearly killing the industry; it was the avalanche of crap games that spilled onto the market after the console became a major hit (not unlike Wii). Also, the Atari 2600 wasn't the only console back then; there were too many competing consoles at the same time, and consumers became very frustrated with it all.

And the consoles themselves have nothing to do with the good games released on them either, it's just whether or not they're host to those games. Essentially everything on the PS2 COULD have been on Xbox and GameCube, but weren't. So long as you're going to say the 2600 is awesome for its great games, I will say is crap for its garbage that collapsed gaming in North America

It set a ton of the standards for all the 3D games we play today. RE, MGS, FF, GT, Tekken, Kain, Tomb Raider, SOTN, Crash, it spawned so many long lasting franchise or reinvented classic ones.
PS3 should be higher than TG16, wtf. It has all the major third paty games plus a bunch of excellent exclusives not to mention two of the best games of this gen in MGS4 and LBP. 360 and PS3 shouldnt be that far apart, they are nearly the same.
As for overall number 1, I have to say PS2. It was the everything console. But I wouldnt be surprised if it turns out to be NES or SNES.
