How would people like to have the details for news, instead of just another sentence or two, be able to be more extensive, and visible if you click a (more) link that creates a little javascript dialogue box with more details?

It just means more typing for us poor updaters.

The most I'd ever type for a description is one or two sentences. If people want more description, then they'd probably be better off just clicking the full article.

Lady Stalker? LOL

Another must-buy for Steel.

Yeah, that title is really unfortunate. Near as I can tell, they called it that because you play a female main character instead of the dude in the original Landstalker game, not because you stalk ladies. LOL

I used to love Super Star Wars, not too hot on the sequels though. Anyone remember the mode 7 bits Grinning

Man, I haven't played Super Star Wars in over 16 years! I bought that game on release back in the day. I loved the mode 7 levels, music, and graphics, but I hated the platforming. It never felt right, and I died a lot because of it. Sad

I wish Nintendo would provide demos for the Wiiwre games like XBL. I want to play those two games, but not plunk down money for them until I know if they are any good or not.  Rock and Roll Climber does look pretty cool.

Hell, yes! Demos would be awesome. I honestly don't see why they don't do it. The DS has demos, so why not WiiWare/VC?

Oh man I loved the platforming in Super Star wars. You could play as Chewbacca with a laser rifle and shoot stuff. Then at the end you had this mode 7 bit in the trench run.

Software Sales

EEDAR expects software sales for July 2009 to come in at $501 million, a 15% decrease over last year. The lack of a sales increase was primarily driven by the next-generation home and portable software titles. Unit sales are likely to decrease by 10% over last year with a 5% decrease in the average selling price (ASP). EEDAR believes the weak retail environment is the primary cause for the year-over-year decrease in ASPs.

Yet Another Software Downgrade

After the recent announcements of multiple delays, including BioShock 2, Splinter Cell, and the expected delay of a few other minor titles, EEDAR has downgraded our retail software growth for 2009 down to flat. These downgrades are not the result of the recession impacting the industry more than EEDAR has anticipated; rather, our downgrade is purely the result of key titles being pushed out of the 2009 calendar year.

Most assume that the expected revenue from a delayed title will redistribute itself to others. This is certainly not the case, especially for titles like BioShock 2 and Splinter Cell, which both have a strong cult following.

Other entertainment sectors provide a good example of how revenue is redistributed when delays/cancellations occur. For instance, the cancellation of a Rolling Stones concert does not imply that people will use the money from their refund on other upcoming concerts. Neither does the cancellation of a summer blockbuster movie redistribute that revenue to other movies. Rational consumers, by definition, rank their leisurely preferences and spend their income accordingly. If BioShock 2 is delayed, a potential buyer may redistribute the surplus in their holiday budget to another leisure activity that ranked similarly, but slightly lower than BioShock 2. There is no guarantee that the revenue will be redistributed to another holiday video game title.

Any revenue taken out of the industry in the fourth quarter of 2009 due to delays will likely be made up in Q1 and Q2 of 2010. EEDAR currently forecasts Q1 2010 sales to be up at least 9%.

Hardware Sales

EEDAR expects hardware unit sales for the next-generation systems to decrease by 25% over last year for the month of July, with all platforms, posting a year-over-year decline.

Quick Facts:

· July 2009 is expected to have 14 titles exceed 100,000 units compared to over 18 in July 2008.

· No titles are expected to sell over 1 million units in July 2009 (combined multi-platform) compared to none in July 2008.

· The top ten titles for July 2009 are expected to sell 2.1 million total units combined compared to 2.4 total million in July 2008.

NCAA Football 2010

EEDAR currently forecast’s NCAA Football 2010 unit sales to be down 10% over last year. EEDAR does not believe the sales decline for NCAA is due to the economic recession, but rather NCAA Football 2010 has fallen prey to game feature stagnation, which is common for annual titles this deep into the hardware cycle. The same phenomenon occurred during the PS2/Xbox era; however, no declines in yearly sales were realized in the NCAA series during the 6th generation because both the PS2 and the Xbox were able to add new NCAA consumers to their install base faster than the rate of those exiting. This is different in the 7th generation as monthly hardware sales are trending slower than in previous generations due to higher prices and the reversal of the PS2 to the Wii as the dominant console.

We do not fault Electronic Arts as all annually released titles, irrespective to the publisher, will face the same hurdles until the install base grows for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

For reference, there are close to 9 million less PS3/Xbox 360’s in the market compared to the PS2/Xbox penetration over the same time period in North America. On a monthly basis, PS3/Xbox 360 hardware sales are 35% less, combined, than PS2/Xbox hardware sales during the same time period in the product lifecycle.

Despite the projected decline in sales, EEDAR expects the NCAA franchise to remain profitable for Electronic Arts as development costs on the series decline due to reuse of tools, technology and assets between each annual release. As an additional reference, Electronic Arts stated on their Quarter 1 Fiscal 2009 call that NCAA Football 2010 sales were “weaker than expected.”

Wii Resort Off to a Good Start

EEDAR estimates that Wii Sports Resort will sell over 475k in its first week in the United States. Long-term sales will mimic that of a true "evergreen" title, with strong sales from month-to-month and lifetime sales exceeding 16 million worldwide. EEDAR has received feedback that the Wii Motion Plus has acted as a positive catalyst to additional Wii hardware sales. However, EEDAR believes the lift in sales is temporary and the additional hardware sales are mostly due to the by-product of the increase in mind-share due to Wii Sports Resort’s large marketing campaign.

The Force is Strong with This One: Star Wars Content Blasts onto Wii Console

Multiple LucasArts Super Nintendo Games Head to Virtual Console

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fans of Star Wars® and classic Nintendo games will want to keep an eye on their WiiShop Channel for the next month. Nintendo will be releasing multiple LucasArts favorites for Virtual Console, starting today with Super Star Wars®. In the coming weeks, both Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back® and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi® will be added to the Virtual Console lineup. All three Super Star Wars games were originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and will be available at 800 Wii Points each.

The arrival of the first three games will be accompanied by additional Star Wars-themed content on other Wii channels throughout the week. The Check Mii Out Channel will invite people to submit their best Mii character renditions of classic Star Wars characters. On the Everybody Votes Channel, users can cast their votes to help settle old debates, such as the proper order to watch the six Star Wars films, and who fired first – Han Solo or Greedo?

“Our expanded partnership with LucasArts brings the Star Wars and Nintendo universes together,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “These three Super Star Wars games represent fantastic additions to the growing Virtual Console library, and the exclusive Star Wars content on the other Wii Menu channels is sure to have people from different generations having fun and interacting with one another.”

“Virtual Console on Wii is a great way to make these games available to our fans again, and it’s an awesome opportunity to expose our classic console titles to an entirely new audience,” said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts.

Additional classic LucasArts games for Virtual Console will be announced in the future.

Done more updates. Happy

Damnit, the star wars game speculation begins. I say that that SEGA arcade game where you literally had a light saber joystick and had to counter Vaders moves should be there. And that SEGA game with the xwing fighters.

Damn, No More Heroes 2 info, I dont want to be a punk.

There are still side jobs such as coconut collecting and a new one involving plumbing. Suda explains that he still wants the player to feel like he has to work hard to play the game as that is what it means to be a punk.

"Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said he expects Nintendo's three big 2009 releases - Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii - to sell 10 million copies each within this fiscal year."

Yeah, I can see that happening. I'm definately going to buy NSMB Wii, and I already own WSR. However, I won't be buying Wii Fit Plus; I'm just too fat and lazy for that nonsense.

Only about a month away until ODST drops. Definitely can't wait for it. It shall become my new online addiction.

High Voltage are showing their commitment to making mature games for the Wii. After releasing the The Conduit, they're stepping it up with a truly blood-curdling monster shooter. Will it be as heavily-hyped as The Conduit? Who can tell? But we do know that The Grinder is looking promising.

The set up is pretty straightforward. The world, for some unspecified reason, appears to have been overtaken by monsters. You know - the old fashioned kind: vampires, werewolves, that sort of thing. You play as one of a group of survivors stranded in the small mining town of Coyote Ridge and basically have to shoot your way out. It's hammy, it reeks of B-movie, and we dig it.

Some of you might be familiar with the cracking PC/Xbox 360 shooter, Left 4 Dead, which has a similar set up. Indeed, High Voltage are clearly taking all their cues from that title. The emphasis here is on frantic, no frills FPS action, with you mowing your way through wave after wave of ravenous beasts baying for your blood. Slashy vampire things are your bread and butter enemies, with tougher-to-drop werewolves popping up every now and then, along with various other boss beasts. Like Left 4 Dead, you can get online and play co-operatively with friends.

It's early days, but The Grinder is looking like a tonne of fun. The action is relentless, the controls are smooth and the visuals are great. There's some cool weapons to try out too - we're big fans of those sexy dual-wielding pistols in particular.

If you read
our review of The Conduit, you'll remember that we said it was a solid, if rather generic, shooter. High Voltage have certainly delivered a more interesting concept with The Grinder but if we have one complaint, it's that there is still some work to do on the rather unexciting level design. Whereas The Conduit funnelled you through drab corridors, the first level of The Grinder leads you through equally unthrilling canyons.

Still, they've got plenty of time to spice things up in that regard. There's still a few questions about how well the Wii will be able to cope with online coop multiplayer, especially when High Voltage are promising upwards of 60 enemies on screen at once. We'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now though, because The Grinder has our interest well and truly piqued. This is one to watch.

Spielberg doing a Halo movie? Oh man please let this be true, that would be so awesome. I want this movie to be made.

Only about a month away until ODST drops. Definitely can't wait for it. It shall become my new online addiction.

Producing like he produced Transformers? Michael Bay directing?

Oh man I can only hope so because Transformers was great. I really enjoy Micheal Bay's movies.

WTF^^^  LOL

Anyway, the Super Star Wars games were incredibly hard, I played them on emulator with save states and it was still hard. I guess there are cheat codes that will work. I played the later two, never played the first one. Maybe I pick it up.

Uneasy

Wii Fit says that I've lost ~13 lbs since I last used it 145 days ago, even though I've done nothing but sit around for the entire summer, spending an average of at least 8 hours per day in front of my computer, and my diet consists primarily of Coca Cola and chips.

My only guess is that I am losing muscle mass faster than I am gaining weight.

I'm tempted to actually exercise rigorously for the next 20 days, just to see how much I would lose (gain?) as opposed to simply sitting around eating and still somehow losing over half a pound per week. I just don't know if I can muster the effort.
