I always find it amusing that Wii Music fails to hit expectations when it sold over 3 million copies. I can't figure out how they ever expected this to sell more than that or even as much as it did. I actually liked it, but the fact is there was a HUGE learning curve there. Sure, anyone could make noise with it, but to make a good song took a lot of work. It completely went against the "anyone can pick up and play the game" philosophy that Nintendo has with that line of games.
A huge learning curve? Really? It looks like very basic musical toy for six year olds. I would not have expected a learning curve at all with Wii Music. Hmm, now I want to get it!

Well it's pretty cheap most places now. Usually in the 20 to 30 dollar range. Like I said you can use it like a 6 year old and just use it as a noise maker. But if you want to make something that sounds good, and looks good (there's a simple music video maker that's pretty fun where you chose backgrounds and CD covers) you're going to need to spend at least 5 to 10 hours learning what's what. How to control each instrument, and even learning about how music is made - how to put together your bass, harmony, percussion, etc. in a way that actually compliments one another. If you're musically inclined you'll pick it all up faster, but if you're not get ready to work. Plus there's a lot to unlock. I think you have to put in about 10 hours just to get access to all the instruments.

I have no musical talent whatsoever.

Me neither, but ultimately you don't need to have any so long as you're willing to pay attention when they take you through the music lessons.

Not bad. Never quite can force myself to be a fan of robot chicken. They never quite seem to time their clips right. Some seem like they'd be funnier if they were longer, and others seem to be too long and kill the joke. This one could have gone either way.
Animal Crossing DS sold like 9 million copies. The Wii game sells 3.38 million.
Still an unqualified success, handheld versions of games sell more, especially in japan, especially on DS.
AC DS sold closer to 11 million, and it's easily the best version of the game.
Nintendo half-assed AC Wii, and it bit them in the ass on sales. Granted, you're right that it probably wouldn't have sold as well as the handheld version anyway, but it still should've broke 5 million by now.

Its not the best version IMO. In japan alone the DS game sold like over 5 million.
Nintendo expected the Wii game to be one of these struck gold evergreen Wii FitSports phenoms. Instead its a 3.38 million seller which will probably reach 4 million end of life.
Yeah, I agree with Steel. Nintendo had some very unrealistic expectations about last Christmas. Did they really think Wii Music and Animal Crossing was gonna carry them?
I love my AC, but when you just rehash the previous versions with a glorified baby monitor then what do you expect?
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nintendo has provided staycations to thousands of people nationwide since the July 26 launch of its Wii Sports Resort™ game. More than 500,000 units of the game for the Wii™ console sold in the United States through Aug. 3, according to Nintendo’s internal tracking numbers. The collection of 12 fun resort-themed sports lets players of all ages escape to a tropical island for some year-round summer fun. “Through Monday we sold one copy of Wii Sports Resort roughly every 1.5 seconds continuously since it launched in the United States,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “This tells us consumers were eagerly waiting to get their hands on these fun activities, and it’s a great start for a game that will have long-lasting appeal.”
Wii Sports Resort includes archery, Swordplay, table tennis, basketball, golf, bowling, Air Sports, Power Cruising, Frisbee®, cycling, canoeing and wakeboarding. The game is easy enough for novices to pick up but contains a tremendous amount of variety and depth to keep veteran players and their friends and family members entertained for hours on end.

Wii Sports Resort is available at a suggested retail price of $49.99. Additional Wii MotionPlus accessories are available at a suggested retail price of $19.99 each. For more information about Wii Sports Resort, visit www.WiiSportsResort.com.
That's great news about WSR. Every Wii owner on this board should get it.
I'll get it alright. Further down the road.
Oh yeah I'll definitely be grabbing it soon. I almost picked it up this week but Infinite Undiscovery sale caught my eye. I'll probably get it within the next couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to trying out the Motion Plus.
Here's a serious question: Is everyone in favour of the sarcastic big news? I've long been undecided. I like it in the sense that it's part of the overall silly nature of the site, yet as a programmer, I don't like data being incorrectly labeled.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile

Truth be told I don't like it. I'm all for snarky headlines and comments. Those are the only kind I put there on the rate occasions when I update news. But when something gets labeled important I think it's better to actually make sure that its important.

Yeah, their disappointment only shows their lack of down to earth expectations. What were the sales numbers for AC Gamecube?
