WHERE IS YOUR GOTY NOW?
This is why I always trust friend's opinions and feedback over reviews by random internet strangers. I picked up DeBlob after reading Leo's blog entry, and I haven't played anything else since I got it.
Oh Steel, de Blob is SO last week.
World of Goo is the new "In" game.
i chuckled loudly... that avatar is amazing. sooooo tim burton!

Damn.
j/k!
I love 'em both.
Do you see 500+ Post Count topics devoted to them or Million-Dollar ad campaigns attached to either?
Nope. Strangely enough you probably wouldn't hear Flames or Fathoms or most of the people defending GTA IV tooth and nail back then mentioning them either. If it ain't popular, it can't be a good game!
They should probably just call it PSX Extremists as they are devoted solely to PlayStation games, hype and overly positive reviews. He was justifying his score of the game, but what I don't get was: If Rockstar was giving unfinished code versions of GTA IV to the big-boys to review, what the hell version did HE review? Either it was also an unfinished copy OR he was basing his score off of hype, PR press-releases or the other site's scores! There was NO WAY PSX Extreme got a final copy to review when sites like IGN or GameSpot didn't! There just wasn't enough time from the release of the finished version of the game to the posting of their review for it to be legitimate. So much for journalistic integrity...
Tell me about it. When me and Dvader did Elebits threads I think mine got 7 replies and Dvaders got 3 and one of those was mine!
It was a miracle that the Endless ocean thread kept going for so long. You see on NeoGAF the De Blob thread is I think, last time I saw it, 2 pages whilst other games - the higher profile ones are well over 10 pages each. In fact I only spotted the Neo World of goo thread buried there, almost hidden.
I almost picked up Elebits a week ago, but had no cash with me at the time. By the time I got back to the store, the game had flown away.
Fuck.
I dunno, maybe you're being too harsh on some of these guys.
I'm aware most of the time that reviews are based on usually just a few hours playtime. It's a dead giveaway when they talk about the main campaign and ignore everything else. When I do a review I usually mention "from what I've seen so far". That's why I usually do a follow up as to how things are getting on if the experience changes. It's different for professionals, but at the same time games aren't films, they can't just sit through 2 hrs and have experienced everything. That said in GTA IVs case I saw nothing in the first few hours that would make me think it was a GOTY 10/10 title. But other people seem to love it to death. I get a general vibe that people find it more polished yet less fun than the older games.
Elebits is WAY overrated.
It's not nearly as polished as something like De Blob and it takes some practice and some patience to get the best out of it. It gets better as they introduce more conditions or objectives as the levels go by and there are around 30 stages which is quite alot. But the later levels go outdoors and it has some atrocious slowdown, that strangely doesn't actually ruin your enjoyment of the stages that much. Be aware that you will be pumping your trigger finger to death at first to shoot each and every elebit (there are hundreds on each stage).
But once you get the layout of a stage (they are generally quite contained) you learn where the powerups are and can use them to your and your thumbs' benefit. I'm still holding out for a sequel. Hell, No More Heroes and Endless ocean get sequels so stranger things have happened. Red Steel 2 is coming out which is going to be LOL or the best FPS on the system.
WTF? It got a 7.5 at most sites. Damn you! That means it's like a 6.5 game. I HATE you.
I hereby nominate this for post of the year.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileNo one checking out my blog?
Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
You really had to be there, GG. Back in that topic, I was the guy in the prison shower who was repeatedly forced to "pick up the soap."
When I suggested it was PR influence or popular sites following each other's (and Rockstar's) lead, I was jumped on by almost everyone in there, save Vader and Rags, if I remember correctly.
If you don't have time to review a game correctly, don't review it. THAT'S integrity.
Playing an unfinished game (one that was riddled with bugs at the time and not reporting about it), not finishing the game OR going by what the press/PR just tells you to say are all example of issues I had with the game and it's review (and resulting GOTY and Best Game of All time claims) and that's what I was arguing back then. This article pretty much states everything I suspected back then was 100% correct.
People like Fathom MUST have known they weren't playing a full retail version of the game, yet they stood up and defended themselves and the game anyway. The extremes to which they went to back then are even more funny now as the hype train whipped through the forums so quickly their heads must have been left spinning. By the next month, Metal Gear Solid came out and GTA IV was all but forgotten. BOTH of those games will probably be replaced by something else by the end of this year, too.
I am all for passion about games, but the games themselves have to be the sole motivation. Anything else and people will doubt what you have to say forever...
Dunno. I don't want to dredge all of that stuff back up again. It was Steel's posting of that article that got me all revved up, and I just don't have the energy to fight THAT battle again!
Man, I am absolutely loving Geometry Wars: Galaxies on Wii. I feel so stupid for not picking this one up sooner. I played that game about 4 hours yesterday, and it is awesome! I had played the demo for Retro Evolved on 360, but Galaxies is about 10X better than that one. It's quite possibly the best Wii game ever . . . okay, that may be a bit of a stretch, but it is heading to my personal top 10 Wii games, though. I tried both the Wii Remote/Nuchuck combo and the Classic controller control methods, and to my surprise, I vastly prefer using the Wii Remote/Nunchuck; it's just sooo much quicker and more accurate than aiming with the right analogue stick, but it does take some practice. Who needs fancy graphics, boring storylines, and 15 million dollar budgets when you can have a simple, yet addicting game who's only purpose is getting the highest score possible? Geometry Wars: Galaxies reminds me exactly why I still love old-school arcade gameplay the best.
I posted that article.
Yeah I had to be there. I remember reading some sort of chit chat around that thread but I never actually delved into it. I was long gone by then and didn't really care about reading much on the site bar checking on my friends blogs. That reminds me, I haven't checked out the blogs in a long time now. I get hyped by games a lot, but I'm more cynical these days after all the years and some notable disappointments.
And thus, I walk away vindicated.
Like Antonio Banderas in Desperado, walking away from the fire. His hair blowing in the wind.
Salma used to be soooo hot.
If you are a child, you are intrigued by Jello and how it jiggles and wiggles on your spoon as you bring it to your mouth.
If you are a monkey, you are contractually obligated to fling poo and enjoy it.
If you are an adult male, you just HAVE TO stick your willy in the Chocolate Pudding to see just what it would feel like. (Not me.)
I am reminded of all these things as I play World of Goo.
There's just something so primal.
There's just something so playful.
You just can't put it into words.
There are games you play and there are games you have fun playing with. Goo is one of the latter.
I don't know what's been going on lately. It started with Puyos (sounds like Poo doesn't it?). Then came those crazy little Loco Rocos. de Blob just rolled into town recently. And now, we got the Goo. Something's going on in this world where people feel the need to devolve and this is just the game to do it!
Be a kid again.
Get in touch with that dirty little monkey, or...
Feel that oh-so-smooth, chocolatey pudding goodness... (NOT ME!)...
PLAY World of Goo!
It's one of a kind and CANNOT BE MISSED ! ! !
Chocolate pudding? I thought it was supposed to be warm apple pie (not me).
Anyhoo, I'll definately be getting World of Goo soon. I have plenty of Wii Points now, but I'm just too busy playing Geometry Wars and Super Mario Galaxy right now. I also have to clean out the fridge.
