PS4 wont be called PS4 because of the 4 meaning death in japanese. Something like Vita it will be called. Xbox, I have no idea.
Prices? If Wii U is £300 for the deluxe then minimum they will be £350. I'm betting even more expensive, especially as MS's machine sounds like a beast.
They will both be $400. More than that has been a proven mistake, and honestly the economy isn't any better now than it was in 2006.
I would like it if they were both just called Playstation & Xbox....no numbers, no extra symbols or any nonsense.
My only prediction is that Microsoft will not launch their next console in Japan until at least 6 months after it launches the West. After 2 generations of minimal interest in Japan I think they're going to make sure that there are no shortages in the territories that really want the system before they start shipping units over there.

How is MS going to launch a console with an 8 core cpu, 8gb of RAM, a 640gb HDD for $400 without taking a massive loss?

Their problem. Do you think it would sell for $600 anywhere but North America?

Fixed.
Microsoft:
"Dudebrobox 69 (siiiiiixty niiine dude! Wild Stallions! *air guitars*)" $500 for a machine that transmits your coordinates to Alien slaver overlords in alpha alexis 7, signaling the end of times. If one million units are sold then it's time for the alien apocalypse. This is if it still even works in the first place, instead of red ringing. Will also still charge you for online. Plus ...... KINECT BITCHEZ!!! WILD STALLIONS! *air guitars*
Sony:
"Kutagari Station 4: Bitchez Be Trippin Ballz" Not to be outdone by Microsoft Sony launches their new system for $7000 dollars and requires a 10 year contract with an annual fee of two virgins and a goat. System will be a minor upgrade to the PS3. What they don't tell gamers is that 90% of the funds go towards the Kutagaritron 4000, A 300 foot tall nuclear mech with space flight capabilities, thus cementing a new era of world tyranny, and overpriced gaming. Playstation plus will still suck. No good Vita games in the foreseeable future either. 4 Journey sequels announced.

By doing what they are already doing with the 360 at their stores, Best Buy and other retailers. Payment plans ala cell phone data subsidies, except instead of data plans MS offers Gold.
Out of pocket $200, with monthly payment plan of $19 for a couple of years. Gold provided throughout contract period along with warranty/ maintenance etc.
MS is on a huge drive to have more stores given the collapse of the retail electronics business in North America (which affects their OS lifeblood). Last year they re-branded themselves as a "devices and services" company (as opposed to software). They are going the reatil/hardware route, so this makes the most sense -- and the only way low-income western users get their heads around large purchases are small payments.
I hate contracts, I do the math and work out the total and we always get screwed. So no thank you to that shit.

I hope MS doesn't bother with Japan. Before they had to do it for developer cred but at this point Japan is increasingly less interested in home consoles period, let alone one from another country.
Rumors have surfaced yet again that Microsofts new console will be using projection technology to project images onto all 4 walls of your room.
I don't even know what to think of that...

They'll bother with it. To not do so, while extremely practical, would be admitting failure.

And that wasn't even a real video of the tech, just a concept video.

Failure to win over an ethnocentric population that doesn't care about home consoles is not failure.
Mine (*all western*).
PS4 is called "PlayStation 4" priced at $399. Announced before E3 and launched in 2013 (in time for black friday). Maybe different name in Japan given the death connotations for "4".
Next Xbox is called, "Xbox", priced at $399, but with payment plan available through US and Canada that includes Gold for *less than* $20 a month for the first 2 years. Announced and launched in 2013, announced at E3, launched for black Friday. Dumb Ass version available for $299 through retail.
