phantom_leo said:Alright. Question. Games like this I tend to get swept up in doing quest after quest after quest. Around the 4 or 5 hour mark, that event happens where that certain somone gets skewered and you decide to go to Colony 6 for information. I am now around hour 8.5 or so and I STILL have not left Colony 9. I just keep on doing quests, receiving more quests, doing more, receiving more, etc. I am raising Reyn and Shulks Affinity doing this, and I'm getting a good amount of money and equipment --BUT-- Is there a point in this game where you can get TOO overpowered by doing too many side-quests? Can you OVER-level by doing too many side-quests?
I ask this because this is EXACTLY what happend with Kingdoms of Amalur for me. I was doing so many Side/Faction Quests that the game became STUPIDLY easy, even on Hard! Should you leave side-quests for later and go back with other characters in your party too, so you can raise THEIR affinity? Or do you complete all the Quests in one area, move on to the next, complete Quests there, then move on, etc...?
Yes doing all the quest will overpower you. It happened to me when I played. Everytime I reached a new area, I was at least 6 levels above the enemies there. If you are 6 levels above even the aggresive enemies will not attack you. I just explored the areas and listened to the awesome music.
But I still found challenge in the game by attacking monsters that outlevel me. Also the unique named monsters are even harder. Killing monsters that outlevel you by 21 levels is awesome. Also there are unique monsters that will always outlevel you.
The exile fortress quest is so cool, and it seems to connect to a much larger quest, now these are quests that are badass. I just discovered this other fortress that is guarded by these huge ifirit looking monsters, cant do that yet. That is the best part of the game, seeing areas with cool shit that you cant get to yet.
For gems is it better to raise HP or defense? Are any of the gems like increase tension even worth it.
Just got to a new area, omg!!! So beautiful!!!
I have noticed that I am about 6 levels above most enemies so I am going to focus on the story for a while.
Just curious, what level is everyone? I'm at level 20 with under ten hours under my belt.

I think level 35 and around 16 hours.
I'm at level 20 as well with about 11 hours of game time.travo said:Just curious, what level is everyone? I'm at level 20 with under ten hours under my belt.
Way off on my time, I am now level 37 at 28 hours.
My squad looks like a tribal unit, except for Reyn who has looked amazing for hours now. The enemies are catching up to my level which makes the game better but the grand majority of battles are still super easy and practically automatic. The new area is soooo amazing.

Some gems are a waste of time. I would focus on agility, HP, attack and defence.
When you get another character some of the other element based gems are useful.

It's only easy because you are over-levelled. You should be on the same or slightly lower level than the main bad guys if you want a good fight. If you have just done nothing but side missions raising your levels then when you get back to the story you will be overpowered.
Interesting two new characters I got. Riki is clearly going to be awesome, I dont like to control him though. The girl I like playing as, very different than everyone else. I still have zero need for any kind of strategy what so ever as I destroy everything in my path. Still way too many black and blue enemies and red enemies with nothing in between. I cant fight red, so where are the yellows? I am approaching 30 hours in and still no real need for strategy and that is a big issue. The world, my god so beautiful. Love all the town stuff of course. I think I will enjoy the game more when I go back and fight the optional fights.

What yu think is its biggest problem is also its biggest strength. Doth bother with enemies you outlevel too much, just ignore them. Start picking fights with monsters that outlevel you. With some clever skill linking en gem usuage you can start attacking monsters that outlevel you by 6 levels.

But there are none. I either outlevel or am at the same level or there is a monster that is like 50 levels above me. There is no in between. The yellow colored enemies is what I am looking for and I have seen like 3 the entire game. I know if I go back to the start now I should see a bunch more but then I run into the same problem of leveling up to quick.

You won't level up that quickly by fighting them.
Unique monsters that refuse to respawn is pure shit. I murder everything in my path, even if it has a name. Then later I find that monster is part of a quest, I go back and it is not there. Stupid game. They are supposed to respawn but many dont.

Stupid Vader, save and reload!

Stupid Iga, dont you think I have done that A MILLION TIMES ALREADY.
It can be awkward fighting enemies in tight corridors because of the camera and some fights can get a bit too hectic when you have to keep an eye on your team-mates health, trying to get in the correct position for side or back attacks, selecting your method of attack, prepare for a future attack on a member, etc. It's a pretty fast moving combat system for an RPG where one really has to be nimble on the controls. Still it does make for some very exciting battles.
Is there anyway to get rid of that Story Memo thing that pops up in the top middle of the screen?
^ Nope.
I just started the colony 6 side quest, now that is awesome. I did another one where I had to play with the future of some chick and choose her man for her, I love side quests like this. Still cant do a bunch of side quests cause unique enemies dont respawn.

You are doing it wrong then. Can't believe they forgot to put a monsterpedia in the game.
Let me repeat all unique monster respawn. Which ones are you looking for? I can check where they are in a super secret spreadsheet!
Yeah Leo, plus you are going to need quests to raise affinity between all characters in your party. Most quests never go away and it seems like there is a full games worth of content, where you can return every 10 hours or so and have loads and loads of new content in an old area.
