There was a game on the Gensis called Chakan The Forver Man. It was harder than hell, but genuinally good. The game's ending practically demanded a sequel but alas Sega chose to forget it. I personally think it's also a case of bad box art killing a good game:
And if we're talking like a 3rd sequel or beyond I'm surprised as hell we haven't seen an EverQuest 3 yet. It's not the power house that WoW is but EQ still has a great brand name and the original game is still getting expansions after over 12 years. The first sequel was successful, and they put out several spin-off games that did well. But it's been about 7 years since EQ2 came out and almost as long for any of the spin-offs. Seems like Sony just gave up on the MMO market, and give the rich universe they created it's a damn shame.

Yeah I'll second that one as well. Chrono Break please. It's long past due.

Loved this on Dreamcast.
And don;t get me started on sequels that never came to the west. Primarily Seaman and Rocket Slime 1 and 3. Fuckers. We only go the second one.

Another Square game that came out that same year as Chrono Cross in 2000, Vagrant Story. One of my all time favorite PS1 games, and the end was totally set up for a sequel. That was probably Square's last GREAT year as a developer. It was also Rare's last great year as a developer.

Skies. Why no sequel?

What pisses me off about BGE is that it released along with POP and the sales for both sucked ass. Then retailers discounted POP shortly after launch but not BGE and the sales picked up. Eventually because of the lower price, POP achieved decent sales and went on to have sequels.
BGE? Was left in the toilet.

Was it top down? In the same category Battle Cars by Namco for the SNES deserved a sequel. Maybe not htese days though, but I would have liked a N64 era version.
RUSH sequels would be nice too, but now Midway is dead
I gotta tell you, I was playing HOTD Overkill the other day and it's still so much fun. It kinda pisses me off that a sequel wasn't made. That instead of kickass Wii and PS3 sequel or even a FPS Overkill game - SEGA had them port the game years later with a couple of extra levels.
Seems like such a waste of a talented team that had seemed to have found their mojo.
So, What obvious sequels can you think of that were never made?
